      I'm just 13s in the video and I can say now, for sure you're talking about Brutus. That monster spits unburnt gasoline on the ground and the torque it has is enough to send us in a remake of Inception movie, bending the buildings and dreams. I love this kind of videos and that's the only engine that fits this image. I always wondered, WHAT IF? someone mounted a Supercharger. Who would dare to drive such a beast?

    • @exafrost
      @exafrost 3 роки тому +1

      @@eEnzo0 sadly the BMW engine used in Brutus is an extremely low speed, high torque engine. It was primarily used as a zeppelin engine... and funnily enough, that's where it would benefit most by having a supercharger installed, apart from the additional weight. On the ground, I dont think it would be as useful... but I too would love to see it happen. It might make for an epic tractor pull engine.

    • @eEnzo0
      @eEnzo0 3 роки тому +1

      @@exafrost , it would be useful but not with those skinny rubber wheels that Brutus has.
      For that monster torque it needs some fatties.

      Ya'll never owned a alfa romeo have you? A full size fire extinguisher in the back footwell was a must for any pre-2010 alfa owner. One of my 156's used to start sparking and smoking/flaming from the centre console so often I had the technique of pulling the hose forward with my hand, while using my elbow to operate the handle (gently!), all while still driving and lowering the window and managing not to crash! It was so routine for me after I while I'd forget how crazy it would look to any passenger I had in the car, they'd be freaking out at the sight of it! 🤣

    An interest historical note is that the Liberty 12 was designed partly by Jesse Vincent, who was chief engineer for the Packard car company that would also make the Twin Six V12 cars, the LM2500 PT boat engine, and the license-built Merlin engines. Vincent joined the US Army in WW1 as a Colonel, and is said to have designed the Liberty over a weekend in a hotel room in Washington DC.

      I'd guess because the DB redlined at around 2500, and the Merlin was good for 3000. The video is about the _lowest_ revving V12s, after all. :-)

      Here's one from a Spitfire that I followed. He's building another Rolls Royce Speedster as well.

    The engine at 3:48 does not look like a normal Ranger. Exhaust ports should usually be in the Vee, not outside as on this one.

    Hmm...it would be nice if you make the high revving too.

    I’m afraid the story about the Rolls Royce meteor is not quite correct. While it was basically an unsupercharged Merlin it was made of cast iron. Rolls Royce designed and developed but handed its manufacture to Rover as part of a commercial deal.

    A lot of these have tractor pulling applications. But I wonder why the venerable Allison V-1710 wasn't on this list. It doesn't like particularly high RPMs either.

    • @andyharman3022
      @andyharman3022 3 роки тому +1

      Yes. I was missing the Allison, too. From the factory, their highest rated speed was 3200 rpm. Tractor pullers take them over 4000.

    • @TheMKEWERBY
      @TheMKEWERBY 3 роки тому +1

      @@andyharman3022 Sounds just about right. Iowa tractor puller Jerry Forinash "Lurch" said that they set them up to get around 4500 out of them. and that over this, "they would self-destruct."
