Great teacher & great interviewer. They stopped short of saying we are mere automatons, but were implying it, yes? Tolle seems to say that we have some choice in trying to always get back to Present Awareness, to dis-identify from the Mind. Darryl seems to say that even Mind-identification is part of the flow of "this Event" & so it doesn't matter. Tolle seems to offer something we can do - exercise Present-Moment-Awareness AND, that letting go of forms will actually bring more into our life
If everything in life moves, everything known moves, so is an illusion, then life is not real it's an illusion because it's ever changing, ok? So, whatever doesn't move, and has never moved must be the real. What is behind all the illusionary movement called "my life"?. If there's no "me" in an ever-changing world where the "Me seems to be changing thus is not real, then there's something greater than the "me" itself. What NEVER changes is the sense of Beingness, or the sense of "I exist". This sense of Being, or "IS-ness" is the same now as it was when I was 4 years old. This sense of changeless Being is the real, it's timeless, formless and universal to all.
Part II: Just because ultimately, at the miniscule level, all masses are mere concentrations of energy, & the smallest packets of such energy behave...well, Quantum Physics says that the investigator's mind can change the quanta's behaviour! But dialectics argues that macro bodies do have a valid existence, that with enough concentrations of energy another aspect of reality exists: masses. Dialectics talks of enough quantitative changes resulting in a qualitative change, e.g.at molecular level
How do we know whether Nature/Great Event is not some sort of AL computer simulation? How do we know that this isn't All a Soul trap created by nefarious Beings?
Useful reminders but not really saying anything new. "Everything is changing" or anicca, will have been drummed into him as a buddhist monk for 6 years. Who or what notices that everything is changing? Follows the same script on every interview. A pre-verbal golden age of childhood when you were acid tripping, then the Fall into conceptualization and trained to "bark" meaningless words. Without words there would be no interview, no room, no technology to broadcast. Word symbols are a very useful evolutionary tool, just that thought has become very addictive and identified with. He claims "some people will read this book and everything will just radically shift" as when he read a line by Balsekar. When Balsekar got accused of sexual harassment, he used that line, it's just what's happening, it's a great get-out-of-jail free card! In any case, a not very nuanced, complete, or experientially helpful understanding imho, which will always claim to be 'uncompromising' or 'radical' or some such as with Tony Parsons, Jim Newman etc which easily becomes a one trick belief system down the nondual rabbit hole. You will still suffer and feel separate with an added veneer of "well, that's just what's happening... apparently."
