This sounds like something that would go in Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 album. Fantastic! I really like the hissing caused by the pedal i reckon? i dont really know where its coming from, but it adds a nice touch to the song, makes it feel like i'm lying down on a grass field watching the clouds pass by as the sun sets, without mentioning how you tweak the filter to make certain notes more pronounced, it really adds a nice touch to the song, keep it up!
#rainclouds I got the Volca keys. It is a lot of fun and easier to learn than I thought. But I am a scientist geek so I figured that part would be easy. Lets see though how the artistic part of my brain works.
I'm looking to buy the volca keys, especially for ambient/drone music. Can I produce such sounds with only the volca and maybe some reverb from my guitar amp? Also, is it possible to run music into the volca and change the sound of it with the effects?
These units sound fantastic with just a tad bit of effects. Amazing how quickly they can approach string section type sounds with the right modulation. I did a vid featuring just my Volca Keys and the Jomox T-resonator and was quite pleased with the results. Lovely sounding piece of music. Good job. Could listen to this for hours.
+asa dok Thanks a lot. I was not aware of that track but it's on my phone now and certainly smoothed out my commute to Westminster on Friday! I may try a cover...
Rainclouds I am so much in debt with you! I was just about to ask for a refund on my Korg Volca Keys, but I decided to seen some videos before proceeding to the refund...and guess what! Your video was the first one to appear on my YT recommendations... destiny, unconscious attraction, I don't know, I just know that I am in debt with you. Pd: I will buy your music in BC, absolutely!
Keys is very fun, and can make some great ambient sounds, as well as some pretty cool plucks. The FM is much more complicated to use (FM synthesis is WAY more complicated than Subtractive Synthesis like the Keys). That said, if you want something you can really experiment with strange alien textures and absolutely weird sounds, grab the FM. The FM can even use DX7 SYS patches that you can download online. The Keys is wonderful though if you want some light sweet sounds! :)
I only just started looking into FM synthesis the other week and everything I read about it mentions complexity. I've been looking at the Keys for a while and then saw the FM a few weeks back and got distracted by it's promise of "icy 80s sounds".
Steven Davidson Oh its got a ton of 80s sounds, and the most alien of all textures. FM Synthesis is way more complex BUT it is worth it to learn because you can do so much with it. It uses the same patches as the Yamaha DX7 so you can just download yourself some patches you like as well, even make your own using a program on the pc. Or simply stick with the hardware. My FM comes in 2 days but I have all the other volcas, and some other korg products, and it looks like if you can save up, the FM paired with a Teenage Engineering PO-12 iirc that should be the drum machine.
just bought one for 40 bucks. withen an hour i was creating sounds with distimct character. nothing great yet but not bad on intro. great vid from you i look forward to my figuring such great tones as you. thanks
Hi Kevin. 40 is a cool price. It does have a distinct character. I have a Neutron now but still use the Keys for certain things. It would have been cool to get more Keys in some ways. If I see any for that price I may! Thanks for your comment.
Just look at the knobs in the Video ;) Poly mode, no detune EG init and Porta all the way down Playing with the Cutoff about mid-range, Resonance on 1 o' clock, Init slightly above 9 o' clock, Give it some attack and turn the other 2 ones up completely. Done. (I cant see if he's using the delay effect, but you might try a long time setting and intensity about 75%, but since there is an additional reverb, you won't hear much of a difference here...) Oh, and he obviously uses some reverb effect device.
This sounds like something that would go in Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2 album. Fantastic!

Many thanks. That’s a compliment indeed!
Whoa! That's Richard's best work. 'Blue Calx' is my favorite piece by Aphex.
You know about the re-release?! maybe the world is ready for Aphex now.
@@atrocious_pr0xy Yep, was stoked to buy the box set but unfortunately it's too expensive for me haha
wow, you are a total master with this, this is so early aphex twin its crazy. Beautiful composition.
Agreeed! Kinda stone in focus vibes
I don’t think anyone would believe I hadn’t even heard that track before this! I was a few years behind... Thanks for the comments.
All my Volca Keys ambient tracks are available for download from Bandcamp. See link above.
thanks a lot for sharing
what is the best way to learn this equipment
Buy it and try it. Watch UA-cam videos for inspiration. Tap into your own creativity and dont try to be like everyone else.

Hey Arthur. Thanks a lot!
I love this. I'm thinking about getting one of these. trying to decide between a Volca Keys and Volca FM.

Bobby Serious is spot on. Lots of reverb and delays. I use multi effects pedals so you have that option easily. Currently a Zoom MS70CDR.
