I’ve no joke been looking forward to hearing you in this piece for years. It’s every bit as great as I anticipated it would be! I hope we’ll get to hear it in NY sometime.
Such a beautiful voice with excellent legato and sensitive phrasing - and none of the wobble or "noisy" vibrato so often heard in contemporary singers of this repertoire. Bravo, Mr. Meachem!
A real inspiration, so glad I found this channel, my son wants to be an Opera singer since the age since he was baby practically. He is 16 and he loves your warm up exercise. His ambition is to try and get into Royal Irish Academy of Music. Thanks so much for sharing your gift with us and this great channel.
I would argue that no matter how big your voice is, you cannot sing the heavy stuff without a serious commitment to legato, as Mr. Meachem demonstrates wonderfully here. Bravo!
Bravo Lucas! This aria is hell and back and you did it so effective and effortless. Last passagio is amazing and i thought that you will cover it before Ah la tempesta, but your sound is amazing! I'm so happy that we can hear all of your skill in this demanding aria! In bocca al lupo!
Lucas I sang with you at Minnesota Opera in a production of Thäis as a young Cenobite! It was a pleasure hearing you live during those rehearsals/performances, and it is an honor to have shared the stage with you. Congrats on Di Luna, it sounds incredible. Wishing you nothing but health, success, longevity and joy during these wonderful moments of your career. Thank you for the inspiration today, sir!
Bravo! So elegantly sung, with a perfect balance of tenderness and underlying power. As a baritone (with a few years on you) I can appreciate what you said about the journey to a role like this. It is a privilege to watch you on that journey, especially as you share the experience through your wonderful videos.
This is fabulous. Really and truly. I actually thought I'd given up on baritones and bass-baritones, looking for a beautiful tone that's handled with musicality. Usually you hear just a big wobble of big, pushed sound. This is the complete opposite: musicality, gorgeous open tone, and completely in-tune.
WOW what an awesome performance Lucas! Thanks for sharing it! Question: Everywhere in the past 24 hrs I'm seeing the term "tilting the larynx" for some weird reason. That term isn't used in professional circles is it? It's one of those popular words like "icon" that suddenly everyone is using for no reason, right? Please tell me I'm right on this one : )
People say things like 'tilting the larynx", "covering", "vowel modification", "turning over the sound", etc to refer to a male voice moving through the passaggio. Generally speaking they are just different ways of describing the same action/sound.
Bravo. Excellent musical interpretation, and vocally very well done. I don't know if opening the voice up so much prior to the last high G at the end is necessarily correct vocally, I understand it is a difficult section in the aria and you are also looking to end the aria with "fireworks" but too much of this could be hard on the voice in the long run. Once again though - Bravo!
Verdi composed for singers. Your are most of the time left alone with marginal support by the orchestra.. It's a high risk but a huge opportunity too. You used the space, he gave you, very well!

thank you - the legato is so demanding. My breath support is fully kicked in for every note.
The vibrato is indeed wobbly.
Nice to hear a lyric baritone not trying to sound like Warren and swallowing his sound. Did anyone ever try to talk you into changing to heldentenor?
@@Michael-mh4vr Virtually every light lyric baritone has been subjected to that at some point.
@@Michael-mh4vrWarren didn’t swallow his tone!

Perfect time in life for Verdi ! Bravissimo maestro !
thanks Marius! Verdi is amazing
Stunning, elegant performance.🎶 Bravo!!!

That means a lot to me. That’s exactly how I feel. All my forces to bear in ONE aria 😳🥵

Darrius, thank you so much. I remember having a great time and your Cenobite was excellent. Wishing you the same - missing Minnesota these days.
Wow! Gorgeous performance, thanks so much for sharing.
I wish I could hear you sing Verdi live! This is sooooo good!
Come to Palm Beach Opera or Miami!
Great tonality. Crystal clear. Amazing technique too!
My friend Robert Watson frequently raves about you. It’s certainly easy to see why. Great legato, real vowels, and ringing high notes. Bravo.

Wow! Your sound has such an amazing bite but also such depth - as a young baritone I am super jealous in the best way possible! Haha!
Who needs visuals with beautiful singing like that? Thank you for sharing it.
I'm in awe, this is so good
Such elegant singing.
That legato is just great
Do you know Thomas Studebaker? He is a fantastic Heldentenor and my voice teacher who also studied with Marlena Malas.
I knew him. A former baritone. I heard him sing Ruiz in this opera at the Met. It's been ages.

Exquisite top to bottom 🤩🔥
Лукас, поздравляю!!! Эта партия - мечта любого баритона! Очень сложная и красивая. Поздравляю!

Bravo! a wonderfull perfomance: perhaps "il balen del suo sorriso" is the most difficult aria for baritone in italian opera...
True

You can be a tenor
Hvostovsky sang it better!!
