One of the most masculine voices among baritones, whitout losing an ounce of squillo! I wonder how big the voice was live! Also a very respectable man that was not only a great singer, but also an inventor and a businessman. All of this after being abandoned as a child. Admirable and inspiring.
One of the greatest voices of all time. Thanks.
Grazie.
This is not a voice that should (have been)be forgotten. It is a baritone that is clear and resonant where many baritones cover to the point of the words being "lost" or distorted beyond recognition. Why is this voice not considered when the "greats" are discussed?
Indeed! the commercial baritone greats get so much buzz, when this man's voice, style, technique and mastery are simply glorious! He should forever be mentioned at every turn, when great singing is part of a conversation.
I think he is the greatest of all In Verdi... even more impressive, less woofy than Ruffo and with more bite than Warren. And still capable of those soft mezza voce effects at the ends of phrases, as here.
@@liedersanger1 Absolutely!!! The true line for Bastianini, was Apollo Granforte. No other baritone had that absolutely gorgeous voice!
Vilhelm Hammershoi Not to mention the diction, which, as a choral conductor of mine once put it, “you could take dictation with.”
Voce STUPENDA!!!!! BELLISSIMA!!! BELLISSISSIMA!!!!
I wish I had a baritone singer to work with)) Great singer, hope we will hear such a hero in our days!
ottima interpretazione !
magnifico !
meraviglioso !
sublime !
Non so come dirlo:

BRAVO -- SO GLAD HE INCLUDED THE RECITATIVO & CABALETTO. WHAT EASY SINGING.
When you are named aftet a God -Apollo and a name like Granforte you really have to deliver and he certainly does .!!!
Super-Apollo!!!
ti capisco è come !
chi rispetta oggi i giovani cantanti lirici?...
Bonaldo Giaiotti era l'ultimo BASSO Artista Onesto e Vero .
Fantastic recording. Clear phonation. I wish I could hear this sound in any singer today. Just for the sake of elucubration, after having heard this a couple of times. Bellow "A" natural his volume decreases significantly. His outstanding sound is from B flat to e flat., which is the typical phenomenon of a Verdi Baritone. The majority of his high notes are very good. The "e" (in Italian) vowels of some high notes are modified to position of "a" vowel . Which is very intelligent of his. Il balen is a very taxing aria even for Verdi Baritones and at the end I detect some tiredness.
But, again, this is like every one should sing.
A combination of Ruffo and Bastianini. Fantastic
Granforte is much better than Bastianini... are people deaf or what? Bastianini had a small voice and his vowels weren't clear at all.
How can someone be so clueless as to group Ruffo and Bastianini in the same category? They're totally different leagues. Ruffo is probably the GOAT while Bastianini isn't even in the top 50, or even 100. If you have a developed ear it's impossible to listen to him.
@@oiuyuioiuyuio I am absolutely against what you said. Bastianini was a great artist and a great baritone. And I never heard him live, but his voice was not small, It can be heard in the live recordings. Bastianini was among the best IN HIS GENERATION, Granforte is Legend.
Vero baritono
The best ever! No doubt
GRANDIOSO!
Its incrdible to hear such a clear recording from that date. thanks
Huge vocal power
Perfecto
Wow, operatic singing is going backwards, this is obvious the very top, if not the best baritone...after hundred years now we are looking still to land that old one. Bravo!

Wow! Thanks so much for this post. I have to say that this great baritone should be better known. Truly one of the great voices!
What a voice, diction, amazing! I really understand every word he is singing, and I am not Italian, but I speak several latin languages. It's such a pity there are not many recordings of Apollo, due to the limits of the time he lived. Thank you a lot for uploading!❤️❤️❤️
His Name is true to his ART
Clear as a bell diction so pure a master of his craft
SUPERIOR TO ALL WHO FOLLOWED HIM ESPECIALLY IN OPERA TODAY
Goodness, what a voice. And such musicality. Bravissimo!

Simply brilliant....
Wonderfully clear recording for era at a time when baritones like Ruffo Urbano Stracciari Schnulus were still active -I love Urbano's version -not the refinement or elegance of this recording but a dark baritone off immense power and charm .
Granforte, indeed!

He taught: "The voice must float on the breath as a cork on the water" and also " The breath is to be understood as the bow (the violin) that plays the chords (voice): finally the sound must be amplified by the mask (facial) that is the natural resonance box. His Masters Guido Capocci and Nicola Guerrera at the Conservatory of the Prensa in Buenos Aires where he emigrated, were generous in teaching him.

Before there was Bastianini, there was Granforte.
But Bastianini was a dramatic bartione,Granforte was a lyric baritone.
Is this half a tone down? Anyway, an incredible sound and performance!! Bravo!

Great voice & unfortunately not represented enough, would like more.Rene

This sounds better in the lower key of E.
el mejor baritono argentino, en paz descance
Was listening to a recording from La Scala. And he sounded way lighter than here. Wonder if that's a recording that gives him this sound or maybe takes away in that recording. Or maybe he's older here? Just a thought.
What do you guys think?
The record sounds half a step lower than the normal pitch this aria is performed, so it could be that the transfer was too slow, which makes the voices sound bassier. Or, in case he was actually singing it in a lower key, it would sound a bit different in any case.
@@zomgisha I just listened to Cappuccilli singing in Verdi key 432 and I tried it and it SOO much easier. Don't understand why they had raise it 440, it's way difficult for the singer.
