I suppose your right to say that MATX builds seem to be more value driven but to be honest, since the death of discrete sound cards, I've never used more than 2 PCIE slots. The slight space saving is quite attractive to me. I hope in the coming hardware generation we get more MATX board options.
I have a big mug of tea and up pops Leo with one of his usual excellent reviews. Joy. I did appreciate the comparison with the Pop cases. I was shocked to see how much the case blocked the front 140mm fan - that cannot be good for airflow. Well done for highlighting it. Perhaps one of your more mathematically inclined colleagues can calculate the exact area blocked? And perhaps someone knowledgeable can comment on the turbulence it will cause, if any? My go-to case for MATX is still the Kolink Citadel Mesh: it's half the price of the Meshify and I can fit a 3090 FE and still have fans at the front (on the outside of the case but still behind the front mesh). And it comes with two fans. Given that thermals can be an issue, perhaps something you might like to try in future tests of these smaller cases is putting something in the lowest, x4, slot. Perhaps a sound card, a M.2 adapter, or 10 Gb ethernet card. Then see how that affects the GPU temperatures.
Love the review. Straight to the point, no lollygagging. I would much appreciate a good alternative(s) mATX case since I'm considering this one for my next build but I'm also looking for alternatives.

As much as I love Fractal they always have me scratching my head when they release so called mini cases. To be fair it's not just Fractal. SF market has long been kind of neglected. Hoping cases like the AP201 and Pop are a sign that things are changing though.
One thing I like about fractal is the overall quality of cases and plenty of quality accessories and they keep it old school, I'm in love with my Define 7 XL...they are more on the expensive side yes but quality is always there so I'm never skeptical about buying their product. Not something I can say about cooler Master, thermaltake and Corsair, usually they end up in trash like a dollar store item, I don't care for bells and whistles if quality is not there at first.
@@camotech1314 my goal here was not to bash cooler Master, Corsair or thermaltake but sincerely they make cheap flimsy case sometimes.... I have no doubt 4000D/5000D/7000D are great case, I have a cooler Master Masterframe 700 and I absolutely love it, and yes they upgraded the quality past year but some 100$+ case are still low quality. When you buy Fractal design you know what you are getting, a quality case and not a surprise box is my main point.

Fractal is my fav company because I build high end mATX builds as I love small form factor for top of desk look. I think matx is the future and glad fractal sees it is so obvious.
I gotta say, Fractal really seems to put some thought into the usefulness of their designs. Not like a lot of the case companies that seem to just throw crap at the wall and see if it sticks.
Thanks for the review, Leo. I was on the fence for a long time, but finally went with the O11 Air Mini. I would've picked Evo, but my U14S won't fit. Yet, in Mini, it does. Go figure.
I have a Meshify 2, Meshify 2 XL, and Meshify 2 Compact, and it's impressive how Fractal has carried the design language through to the smaller form factors. This literally looks like they took a Meshify 2 Compact and shrunk down the motherboard tray/compartment. My biggest beef with the Compact is the lack of an integrated fan controller as found on the larger models and it looks like the Mini follows this unfortunate trend. I think the Pop Mini is meant to be the simpler, cheaper mATX option. The Meshify 2 Mini is meant to be a slightly more premium option that lets you access the Meshify 2 series and most of its features in a smaller footprint. But I agree the price creep on cases is getting out of hand.
If money is not an issue which is the BEST case? by best i mean easiest to build and also good ventilation, want to have a AMD 9900X in it, not a big GPU, its for a server with several VMs + Plex server so CPU +memory heavy.
I wish to see Meshify 2 Nano. Define Nano S is still the best mItx case with no compromise. Saddly Torrent Nano was dissapointed due to its size (5cm taller than Nano S) and it's airflow problems with GPU choke point. Something like mix of Nano S and Meshify 2 would be a perfect case with great airflow in mItx size.
I have a CoolerMaster Q300L. It is a nice case, but its pattern causes some flow restrictions. Luckily, with four fans in positive pressure, for my 5600X and a Radeon 6600XT is not much of a big deal.
Noctua NH-U12A is too expensive, and not necessary for Ryzen 5600x. Arctic Cooling cpu cooler is much cheaper, and with excellent performance. SSD should be Samsung or SK Hynix, those are top-tier brands.
10 Months late to this review but I have heard complaints that the front panel audio connector is too short to be routed behind the motherboard tray and brought to the board through a passthrough. Due to the fact that basically all MATX motherboards have the JAUD1 connector at the extreme bottom rear of the board, this could be a serious issue for aesthetics, if you care about that. Having that cord run across the front of the case under the graphics card could be unsightly since a TG panel is literally meant to enjoy the look of your build. Anyone here have this case that could verify this issue ? I'd like to buy this case for my next build, as my last 3 cases have all been Fractal, but this would be something that would make me avoid it entirely.
I want to like the pop air mini except not a fan of the compartment space taken up at the bottom. I'd rather have the ability to put 2x140mm or 3x120mm fans at the front. Matx cases are so few. If the meshify 2 mini had an all white color scheme, I might consider it

I really like it but it's the window side panel which is a no for me. I have the Define Mini C at the moment and the main reasons I went for it were the beautiful minimalist Fractal look, the colour, and the fact is has no window.
and so i did... 160 euros including shipping! yikes! oh well. im gonna curiously be looking at temps and reporting back here when i get it. i have a 5600x with a dark rock 4 cooler and a msi gaming x 6700xt. so i'll be reporting the junction temps from the gpu and the normal temps from the cpu. current junction temperatures for the gpu: 93 while under load and agressive fan curve and a undervolt to 1130mv current max temp for cpu with cpu: 60 celsius
I got it and it was pleasant to build in. Idle temps have most certainly improved and ease of use has too. The usb-c port is nice for charging my phone ;) But temperatures did not change as much as expected while under load. With an undervolt to 1150 this time, the max temperature i saw was 93 again, junction. And CPU temps also hit a max of 60, again. Or it might be that my funny corsair sp140 elite fans are lackluster and simply hate front filters. i love front filters because it keeps out dust ;D
Great review as always. I'm with you regarding MATX cases needing to be inexpensive while maintaining some quality features. It seems the meshify is I'd say around 20-30 bucks too expensive, but it seems like you're paying for all that (over)engineering goodness for modularity/ease of use. Definitely agree with the fans. If you're gonna include something as "luxury" as a type-c header up front, provide pwm fans! I'm sorry but 1 extra pin cannot increase the cost that much!!! 3-pin fans need to go the way of the dodo on all but the most budget of cases (and definitely no more molex ever). I've done quite a few MATX case reviews now on my channel, where I focus on budget + features + glass (searching for the least expensive case that still has a glass panel). The meshify 2 mini hits two of the 3. It definitely wow'd me as you were tearing it apart. Very featureful, but still on the pricey side. Anyway, great review! Thanks!
5Strange reasoning TBH. since I remember, mATX always has beenm mopre expensive than ATX format, for many reasons. So it's rather for fancy byuilds not for bang4buck approach. taking in consideration fpower usage of current and upcoming GPUs, it seems really not a future proof approach for any high end system. PS. It's in price range of LianLi Lancool 2 Mesh.

I just have to many old DVDs which I admittedly rarely need to access, but I do not want to take the time to copy them all over to another drive. I love Fractal, built my last 2 PCs in their cases and this looks great as well. But why oh why do such well built and expensive cases not use 4-pin PWM fans. it's a massive bugbear of mine :/ I mean, people who really care about airflow surely want control of their fans
Apparently, Fractal Design has also made a Meshify 2 Nano at least what's shown on a Swedish website while the Nano only lets you use Mini-ITX Motherboard.
I really like my Phanteks P609S and I wish they made a micro ATX version of the case. My last case was a Fractal design define 4 case and it was good but my Phanteks is a lot better
Nice and detailed review, like it and like a lot Fractal cases because they are very well made, sturdy and somehow practical. About the cons, well, they aren't really cons apart the price where i agree, but everything else is subjective like the crappy RGB lights that i hate, the fans do not matter since even at bios default they behave very good, and the cable management is not an issue since i have only two SSD and so i can easily remove the HDD holder and the two plastic plates to gain even more space for the PSU.
A nice case indeed, however what lets this case (and many the same size) is that you cant house a 280mm AIO cooler in the roof. If fractal built a compact sized case that could allow a 280 in the roof, it would make it head and shoulders above the rest

Just ordered the Pop Mini a few days before the announcement. Happy to head I still got a worthy case. I just wish they had given us all the color options of the larger pop cases.
Nice looking those Fractal cases - Meshify, Torrent. Decent engineering too. Certainly not overengineered like some other examples lately. As for the 140mm front fan issue - it might have a reason. Full range of motion for both fan sizes. Which does require fastening points for smaller 120mm fans in front of the 140mm fan path. Or extra removable bracket. Still not a fan of PSU shrouds. It does make case cooling worse. Can someone make a PSU with cables towards motherboard? So they go straight behind motherboard. Easy direct access service while other side is removed, no cables in front of the PSU at all, lot of space, better cooling options.
@@mikem9536 But is it necessary? There is pretty much zero advantage of having 5..10°C less in your case besides bragging rights, which is for those with less self confidence. And for fan manufacturers to sell more stuff to dumb crowd educated by marketing 😏 Forget temps, seriously. Unless it's noisy or on fire.
Insane price i don't see how they can justify that price. Odd how the $ & £ price is close together as well (could this be due to US tariffs if so why is this not the same for all products which UK still fair amount more)
One thing I’ve just realised that is weird, the Meshify Mini C has a GPU length of 315mm with a front fan installed but this new Meshify 2 Mini and the Define 7 Mini have a 306mm GPU length with a front fan installed. I would have assumed if anything the space for a GPU would have increased…not decreased! Weird move Fractal.
I like the updated model, but i was kinda hoping they'd lengthen the case out a bit more and maybe add support for that big 180mm fan they're selling. Still overall a nice case
I love it. I already own way too many Fractal cases…! The biggest problem is they don’t offer one in the grey! It’s either white with a clear glass or black with a dark tint! Neither are great options. Grey with clear glass would have been perfect. Damnit Fractal!!!

Corsair seems to have achieved the same with the 4000D/5000D/7000D series.

Looks like it will not fit a top mounted AIO. Only with low profile ram?
Low profile should be fine. I will find out soon enough when I have the case.

Weird, the only options for quality on UA-cam is either 720p or 144p. I normally watch at 480 because of my slow ISP.

Over 9 quid for a 2.5 inch drive tray? Time to stuff them into the shroud with a bit of double sided sticky tape.

Nice looking those Fractal cases - Meshify, Torrent. Decent engineering too. Certainly not overengineered like some other examples lately. As for the 140mm front fan issue - it might have a reason. Full range of motion for both fan sizes. Which does require fastening points for smaller 120mm fans in front of the 140mm fan path. Or extra removable bracket.
Still not a fan of PSU shrouds. It does make case cooling worse. Can someone make a PSU with cables towards motherboard? So they go straight behind motherboard. Easy direct access service while other side is removed, no cables in front of the PSU at all, lot of space, better cooling options.
To be fair, this case can use up to 7 fans (5x120mm and 2 140mm's), improves things a bit over the 2 stock ones :)
@@mikem9536 But is it necessary? There is pretty much zero advantage of having 5..10°C less in your case besides bragging rights, which is for those with less self confidence. And for fan manufacturers to sell more stuff to dumb crowd educated by marketing 😏 Forget temps, seriously. Unless it's noisy or on fire.
Insane price i don't see how they can justify that price.
Odd how the $ & £ price is close together as well (could this be due to US tariffs if so why is this not the same for all products which UK still fair amount more)
The euro and dollar are at parallel right now because the value of euro has dipped.

Yes of course.
One thing I’ve just realised that is weird, the Meshify Mini C has a GPU length of 315mm with a front fan installed but this new Meshify 2 Mini and the Define 7 Mini have a 306mm GPU length with a front fan installed. I would have assumed if anything the space for a GPU would have increased…not decreased! Weird move Fractal.
I like the updated model, but i was kinda hoping they'd lengthen the case out a bit more and maybe add support for that big 180mm fan they're selling. Still overall a nice case
Many cases having issues fitting the huge new GPUs.
I love it. I already own way too many Fractal cases…! The biggest problem is they don’t offer one in the grey! It’s either white with a clear glass or black with a dark tint! Neither are great options. Grey with clear glass would have been perfect. Damnit Fractal!!!
Tight and toasty, especially if it ends up being 40C outside again. Don't see a reason for me to drop my 4000D for this case.
