Glad to see your video. It provides more ideas to explore on choosing a pack. There is no perfect bag but seeing the highlights and notable functionalities of these bags helps. Mahalo!
Thanks for watching 😃

Interesting selections. I would have selected a standard GR2 34l bc of the mollee which makes it more versatile. No mention of the CPL28 or CTB35, which I think are fantastic bags.
Great list. I would add the NYA-EVO Fjord and Remote Equipment Alpha 31. The Fjord 60-C has been my favorite large/long travel bag for a couple years now, and the Alpha 31 is great for small/short travel. I love compression/expansion...
I have the original Peak Designs Travel Backpack (the larger one), the Pakt Backpack and the MInaal 3.0. They're all amazing. The downside to the PD one is that shoulder straps connect via a pivot which is great for tucking the straps away, but they can (and have in my experience) fail under load. I LOVE the Pakt Backpack for it's usefulness in many situations. I find myself grabbing the Minaal 3.0 nowadays most often when on the road though.
Thanks for sharing your insights, Dave! 😃
-Eric
The Osprey Porter 30L travel bag updated version is so underrated. It definitely has changed with the updated laptop and shoulder straps. Better color options to choose. I hope the folks at pack hacker gives a updated review on it.
Thanks for the suggestion, Johnny! I’ll pass it along 😃
-Eric
I love the fast speed on the visual details.
Amazing. Grateful for your reviews
Excellent list of well-designed and carefully constructed gear for high tech users. For those of us who don’t carry laptops or camera gear, however, all (with the exception of the Dragonfly) are over-built and unnecessarily heavy. How about a list that focuses on well-made light bags designed for low tech travelers?
Thanks for the suggestion, Terry! I’ll pass it along.
-Eric
I've been eyeing the Tom Bihn Aeronaut 30L that they just brought back (with new straps) after a hiatus. Trying to decide if I want to spend the $$$ but it's the ideal carry-on bag if you don't travel with a laptop. It's the only duffel I've found with hideaway backpack straps and several compartments/pockets.
@@PackHacker Yes please, more like the ULA Dragonfly but easily available in the UK!
Like an only pleasure trip without cameras or smaller ones?
Efficient packing videos ...some of my favorites! Thanks.😁❤️
Thanks for watching, Heather! 😃
-Eric
This was great, I got to see speed reviews of bags I had never heard of, and I definitely will be buying at least one on this list! Thanx guys!
Thanks for watching 😃
-Eric
I purchased the Aer travel pack 3 small recently after seeing your reviews and a few others - it’s a little heavy to start, but I love it!
Good choice! Hope you enjoy it. 🛫
Perfect timing thank you
So cool! I’ve become so interested in travel now, mainly because of you all.
Thank you for the support! 😃
Hope you feel better, Tom! This was a helpful and pleasant video! (As always!)
I’ll pass along your good wishes 😃 Thanks for watching, Erin!
-Eric
I don’t travel with a laptop but find the osprey farpoint to be comfy for week long travel. It can easily take 18 lbs and feel ok with the beefy shoulder straps and hip belt. When I do weekend, summer, or lighter I take my setout divide. Still learning to pack lighter. 😊. Love watching pack hacker videos, and I’ve been eyeing the aer 3…. Wish I could have osprey comfort in a lighter pack with more organization… 3.8 lbs is a bit heavy….
Thanks for the insights 😃
-Eric
Great summary and just what I was looking for!
Can you do a video specifically around people who travel frequently almost every week for Business? I have a different set of needs compared to casual travelers, especially when you have to go during winter. For example, how do you manage the need to look professional but also stay warm when you travel to a client office straight from the airport? If its a 1-2 day trip, what bags to carry, but not show up with a carry-on suitcase or a jumbo backpack with clothes?
Do you wear your suit or business clothes on the plane? If so, a backpack on a suit looks kinda ridiculous. Lots of confusion, so a video targeted at this segment would definitely help
When I watched your review of the Aer Travel Pack 2 and heard the feedback about the compression straps blocking the way of the zipper - I was "these guys have to listen Tom here". And it seems they listened to him while designing the Pack 3. This is how you earn a nice hit on the subscribe button! Now I'm trying to manage to order whichever of this list's backpack beasts to arrive to East Europe. I'm hooked and packed to hack my very next flight travel to Spain.
Thanks for watching 🤙 We'll see you in the next one!
-Eric
Thank you for all these suggestions.
Thanks for watching! 😃

Mountain Hardwear Red Eye 45 has been great! Is good for people who want an extremely durable pack for carry on to outdoors adventures like climbing.
So for those fly to crag trips, I can't think of anything better.
I love my GR2 and Able Carry, however, when traveling, I find packing an extra pair or shoes/sneakers to always be the biggest challenge
The Topo Designs 40L is my go-to for long term travel. ive taken that bag on multiple 4-6 month trips over the past 5+ years.
Thanks for sharing 😃
-Eric
Super glad to see the Minaal Carry-on, the Bellroy Transit and Dragonfly listed here! Definitely agree that these 3 bags are amazing for one-bag travel. I'm' always surprised at how much the Dragonfly can carry. It can hold quite a bit on the pockets on the right and the straps in the front. I do think that regarding the Bellroy Transit, you can get away with the 28 Liter Bellroy Transit version if you don't bring a dedicated hard water bottle but a use a foldable water flask like the Vapur. Trick is to just not use the pockets on the side. But if you must have cold water (insulation) then yeah the Plus is probably the way to go. Also note that each 'color' of the Bellroy Transit line is a different material. I find that (Black) true Black (not Midnight, Midnight is worse imo) is the best version. It's the one that's discontinued on the 20 Liter version but it's the sleekest of the bunch. It's better than the other material imho.
Thanks for sharing! 😃
-Eric
Sorry to hear that Tom wasnt feeling well. Hope you feel better soon!
Great video as always ❤
Thanks for watching, Ana! 😃

Tortuga Outbreaker for me. Love the organization capacity. Aer Travel pack I like too but the Outbreaker is my go to.
Thanks for sharing, Sheldon! 😃
-Eric
I. Like the last one! Very rarely and not so often do I see a nice convenient tuck away back strap!🥰
Thanks for sharing, Terence! 😃
-Eric
love the back panel cover! I really hate my bag touching everything during transport
Great video. I use Knack Pack and love it.
Thanks for watching, Vanessa! 😃
-Eric
I wish they make travel packs along the lines of the outdoor cottage industry minimalist ultralight backpacking packs. All these suggestions are way too heavy considering the majority of travels in my region involve airlines with a 7kg cabin limit and these are almost always strictly inforced.
I'm not a digital nomad/business traveller, purely a frequent leisure traveller, all of these features are an unnecessary overkill.
I've taken to travelling with my Durston Kakwa 40l, before that was my GG Mariposa 60. The Kakwa is under 1 kg, if theres no room in the overhead bins I can remove the frame, put that in the bin and put my pack under the seat. I also love the roll top closure if I end up with extra bulky stuff than I started with. The lack of organisational pockets doesn't bother me either as that's what packing cubes and stuff sacks are for, even with all that, it still weighs at least a kilo lighter than having a bag with all those features. Every gram counts when you've only got 7 kgs to play with and you're female who likes to be reasonably stylish on your travels.
The only thing I miss about a dedicated travel bag is having a front loading opening and the ability to neatly stow away straps when required. But it's a willing sacrifice I'll make so I don't waste at least a third of my luggage allowance to unnecessary bag weight.
Thanks for sharing your insights 😃
-Eric
gave my GR2 to my dad when i stopped traveling with him for work, but now that college is almost over, i'm probably gonna pick up a new one. outstanding ruck for a one pack solution.
Thanks for sharing! 😃
-Eric
It's nice to see so many travel-focused packs in one place, and I especially appreciate the common theme of efficient rectangular shapes vs inefficient teardrop classic school pack shapes (rectangular packs are more likely to fill out a luggage testing box, whether personal item or overhead carryon size). I wish you had called out which bags might be suitable as personal items; and given your deep investment in this particular bag review space, I wish you could construct a couple of sealed-side, but open-topped, plywood luggage testing boxes, one in more or less standard carryon size and one in personal item size. Thanks for your dedication and detailed approach to onebag travel - and I think even those who routinely check luggage should have at least a 30L total backup solution in-cabin on every trip, and an on-body medications, eyeglasses, and phone kit in case of our worst travel day ever, the emergency evac.

@@PackHacker perfect. Ty
My favourite is Aer travel pack 2 small, bought mainly based on your recommendations at that time :)
Thanks for sharing, Alex! 😃
-Eric
Shimoda Explorer v2! My favourite so far!😊
I'd love to see recommendations for shorter people on one bag travel backpacks. I'm 5'1" (155cm), and some 30L bags are too big; I usually travel with the Topo Core Pack or The 30L Topo travel bag as it's not as tall
I second this! 5'1" as well!
I'm 5'11 and love both the Topo Core Pack and Global Travel Bag!
Still rocking my Opsrey Fairview 40l. Its held up great over years of international 1 bag travel.
Same!
Love my Aer travel pack 2, my Minaal 2.0, and my Able Carry max. Love em all! I have a problem. Lol
Love seeing all the packs! I personally travel with the Cotopaxi Allpa 42L and love it!
What’s your favorite feature of the Allpa 42L? 🧐
-Eric
@@PackHacker So many to choose from but for me the organization/layout of the bag is great, love that there are 4 grab handles, the zipper security features and I have the Del Dia so love the colours! I don't see this pack in the airport much so mine is pretty unique
Thanks for sharing, Dawn! 😃
-Eric
I love watching your videos. It would be nice to see some more girly directed items. Beis, Monos, Away, Cotopaxi, Topo Designs, Calpak, Baboon to the Moon, etc. with fun colors. I used the CalPak Terra 26L on my last 3 week trip to Italy but found it didn't feel as sturdy as I was hoping when fully stuffed to the brim. Also having ALL the organizational pockets on the outside was a completely different concept. Not sure if I'm feeling confident in taking it to Japan this year but would like something in a fun color!!
Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll pass it along 😃
My favorite is the Outdoor Vitals KOTAUL. Very comfortable and versatile.
Thanks for the suggestion; I’ll pass it along! 😃
-Eric
I’ve traveled with the Heimplanet for the last 6 months, it is a *fantastic* bag.
Thanks for sharing, Phil! 😃
-Eric
I have an Osprey something 40L and a Tortuga Setout Divide 35L but the one I keep coming back to and using most of the time is an eBags Mother Lode. I’ve never had a problem with carrying it on the plane, including an 11 day trip to Germany and Italy, and flying between the two countries.
Thank you for sharing your insights with us! We appreciate it 🤙
-Eric
Great video!
Thanks for watching 😃
-Eric
I have been using a Flowfold Large Optimist for a couple of years. It is lightweight, comfortable, and water resistant. It is only 18 liters, but that is the maximum I tend to carry. I only bring one bag and like to keep it under the airplane seat.
Thanks for sharing, Kathi! 😃
-Eric
Great video. I travel with my osprey transporter 40L.
Thanks for watching, Alison!
-Eric
Great Video ;)
In Germany, they sell the "aevor travel pack proof". I love this backpack and you should test it. It's a Rainproof 38 liters Backpack with a roll top, so you can extend it up to 45 liters just in Case. The design and the color options are also nice. Would love to see my backpack in one of your future Videos, :)
Thanks for sharing! 😃 I’ll pass it along.
-Eric
Osprey Fairview has worked good for me. Haven’t 1 packed with it yet but I don’t doubt you could. Big size and easy carry
Thanks for sharing! 😃
-Eric
I hope you can do a review for more suggestions for lightweight one bag travels. Here in Asia there is a 7kg weight limit for carry on. As much I like Aer 3 at 2kg it is too heavy.
Thanks for the suggestion; I’ll pass it along! 😃
-Eric
Hey guys! Have you looked at the Caribee traveller 40L?? Seems like a pretty decent pick and only $110 AUD? 1/5 of the price of many of the bags you have rated highly , even for the potential lower quality I'll take the budget and just buy another when needed
I enjoyed the video as a primer but I would prefer if there was like a stat sheet comparison somewhere. For example: Does this backpack have an internal frame for transferring weight to a hipbelt? Does it have a hip belt at all? Can the shoulder straps be used without the hip belt? Max weight for comfortable carry? Max laptop dimensions, etc.
I do enjoy highlighting features based on experience with the bags to show what is not obvious about each but basic features can rule out a bag that is otherwise attractive.
Patagonia blackhole MLC 26L is probably worth reviewing
I have a few comments about "one-bag travel". Though I believe in packing light and I have gone on 10-day trips to Europe with Tom Bihn' Synapse 25. However, it is also important for me to have a small cross-body bag for my valuables and Tom Bihn's Side Kick works perfectly for that for example. The reason is security and convenience. A lot of back packs offer organizational small pockets and reviewers often show them putting in passport, phone, keys, wallet, etc., but I never put those valuables in a backpack. Many backpacks offer lockable zipper for the main compartment but not so many on those pockets. AND especially if those pockets are locked, you won't have quick and easy access to the items that you need to use often without taking the whole backpack off your shoulder.
While I often leave the backpack in an overhead bin or rack on planes and trains or other places, the small cross body bag stays with me strapped across my shoulder all time, while sitting on planes and trains, or eating at a restaurant, or even when I go use the lavatory on an airplane. The bag stays on my side or front, not in the back for obvious reasons. (And I use Tom Bihn's pouches attached to bag's O-rings so that they cannot be snatched away.)
So, while I believe in traveling with just a backpack that fits under seat on airplane, I also have to have a small crossbody bag for all my valuables and small things that I need to use often on the go, which would not make it "one-bag travel"
Hi guys! It has just been released, but if you have a chance to try it, let me know what do you think about the new Tropicfeel Shelter 30-66 L.
I really like their design and their ideas on how to organise the backpacks, like the wardrobe system that they use😍
Most likely buying the ULA dragonfly. Which fabric is used in the video? And it’s able to fit under the seat in all flights??
A lot of these bags look sweet, but my Osprey Talon 36 is so comfy it’s hard to imagine hiking/traveling with something else. Would really like a hiking pack that has a little organization, I think the Shimoda might be closest
Thanks for sharing, Kevin!
-Eric
Out of curiocity, do you guys have plans to review the Linus Tech Tips backpack? I feel like that one would work great for one bag travel.
👀👀👀
Thank you for asking this I was thinking the same thing
@@PackHacker please!!! I was in the first wave and love it for the most part. The straps are my biggest pet peeve because they never feel quite right and can rub on my arms. Not sure if I’m missing something or it’s cuz I’m tall. Such a good bag though, would love a dedicated video on your input.
lol
it's too small
That Tom Bihn ultimate shoulder strap is great. I got one for my Patagonia black hole duffel and it's the perfect upgrade.
Thanks for sharing, Matt! 😃
-Eric
I love the AER Travel Pack 2
Us too 😃
-Eric
I own both the Minaal 2.0 and the Bellroy Transit backpacks. Although the Minaal 2.0 is excellent, I tend to use the Bellroy Transit more frequently as it provides more pockets and organization features overall. Both backpacks are great though, and lightweight, weighing around 1kg each.
Thanks for sharing your insights 🤙
-Eric
Feel better. Any have a shoulder strap that you didn’t mention having one like the Tom Bihn?
Most airlines only allow 7kg for carry-on baggage, so ideally a "one bag carry-on" backpack should weigh less than 1.4kg, or 20% of the weight limit.
My favourite one bag travel its atd1 supply forme attitude supply. Its my perfect backpack for versatility for the flight/travel
Thanks for sharing, Fabrizio!
-Eric
Great video! What is the sunglasses case you use? @9:52
Great vid, as usual. I would’ve like to know the MSRP for each of them. Maybe you could add it on the introduction slides.
There is pricing detail on every product page linked in the description! 😃
-Eric
I bought the Aer travel pack 3 small and have to say it’s the best travel pack on the market. Big enough for for a week long trip but also small enough that once you get to your destination you can unload your packing cubes and use it as a daily carry. I have been using mine as I work remotely in India and can say it has been a game changer. I bought the x-pac version and have to say these are the highest quality materials I have ever seen on a backpack. I don’t think I can be convinced to ever buy anything other than an Aer backpack ever again. Thanks for your reviews on it @packhacker
Thanks for sharing, Nicholas 😃
-Eric
Great video. What about tropicfell hive?
It took me to long to buy a bag to travel, and I end up with the osprey 40l fairpoint. Went for 30 days in Europe and was great.
Great choice Róger! What did you like about it the most?
What’s your recommendation for something a little smaller and more budget friendly? I like the Aer3 Small Travel bag, but not the price?
Any suggestion for collapsible day pack?
I use the pakt backpack but to be fair it’s also the only one I have lol great video - makes me want to buy another
Thanks for watching 😃

I have the Pakt and it works well
want a travel bag 40-45L that can convert to briefcase and the shoulder straps must tuck away. Must be clamshell. Expandable is great option. Leaning toward to Tortuga. Prefer made in usa but my requirements above. Recommendations appreciated! Thanks!
Love your videos, great content, and very useful information. Maybe I am one of the very few people, but I do not need a personal item bag or backpack to carry a laptop. Do they make personal item bags that are slim, tall (so they didn’t make your suitcase fall over when they’re sitting on top of it ) without a laptop compartment, and have a sleeve to slip over the handle of your suitcase/rollaboard? They seem impossible to find.
Thank you again very much for your informative channel!👍
Thanks for sharing your insights! 🤙
-Eric
Question: since you have so many bags in your inventory like the travel bags, how do you pick which ones you’ll do a video of? My favorite is the Osprey Daylite Plus!
We evaluate the video topic and decide what bags we have that meet the criteria! We also keep continuous tabs on new gear to try and work those into videos, too 😃
-Eric
Any recommendations for a 35-40 litre bag that converts from backpack to duffle?
I've been oscillating between my Topo Core Pack, Global Travel Bag and Bellroy Transit Backpack lately. Patagonia Blackhole is always on hand too, if I'm feeling packing cube inclined.
It sounds like you’ve got some great options, Paul!
-Eric
@@PackHacker still peeved that prescriptions take up an entire dopp kit of their own, so packing is always an ongoing calculus ☠️
I personally travel with my CPL28, big enough for 5d4n trips, small enough to be my daily on the destination.
Thanks for sharing, Eric! 😃
-Eric
12:40 Am curious , whats the bag thats on your left shoulder ?
Peak design the best!
any recommendation for a backpack that has a separate shoe compartment at the bottom
You said you traveled around the workd for 2 years. I'd love to know EXACTLY what you packed for that period - especially if you did it with just one Goruck GR2 backpack
I am still looking for the perfect bag to be used for both every day work and for light travel as well ( all what I find is either too big for office or too small for travel ) :( any recommendations?
I’m surprised the Pakt Travel Backpack isn’t on this list. Chase Reeves knocked it out of the park with this collaboration.
I' ve had my eyes on the fjallraven singi 28 for a while, I'd love to hear your feedback!
Huge fan of the Topo Designs Global Travel Bag 30L
Us too 😃
-Eric
@@PackHacker Agree the Topo Designs Global 30L has lots of pluses, including distinctive good looks and durability. However the amount of padding and "structure" results in a larger format bag with limited carrying space. Though smaller, my Osprey Quaser 28L fits more.
would the evergoods ctb26 have made it onto this list? How do you feel about the Ultra Dragonfly vs the original Dragonfly. Right now trying to figure out which bag would be ideal for me for travel but could second as an occasional edc bag if needed. Right now I have a 26L GR2 that I love the organization of but it is just a tad too small for one bag as I struggle to fit toiletries, but thats not a big issue as i typically do road trips but prefer to not have to keep track of much stuff. When packed out, the bag is great but I worry about the 1000D potentially damaging clothes. the weight doesnt bother me considering its purposes for me, but that may also be a concern if edc usage is needed. I will still have use for it with exercise but have been thinking about getting a second bag. mostly between the evergoods ctb26, aer travel pack 3 small, aer city pack pro, and the ula ultra dragonfly. I dont usually carry much tech except for chargers for my phone and watch and then a portable backup so having 2 laptop compartments or overly padded laptop compartments is not necessary which makes me not think the evergoods bag is for me. additionally, the aer bags seem to be ideal for digital nomads but i again dont carry much tech with me. i only just learned of the ultra dragonfly yesterday, but it seems like it might be my best option if I then pair it with the evergoods CAP2. What are your thoughts?
It's also worth highlighting which of these bags has a lifetime warranty, top dollar should mean top quality for life.
I am looking for recommendation. I need universal travel backpack with laptop sleeve, bottle pocket, strap to put it on luggage, clamshell opening (if possible) which looks more low profile when not fully packed. I want to use it for work and holiday trips. So it shouldn’t look too much like hiking bag. Max 30l or that looks not too big. I am not too tall 160cm and most of the bags looks huge on me. Peak design has most that I need but it can still look big as it’s over 50cm long.
My wife loves her Aer Day Pack for the last couple years now,. Thanks for your advice about one bag travel it has saved some much time and less stress while traveling. For people on the fence about one bag travel yes it can be done go back and search past videos we travel for 2 weeks and me and my wife do it with ease.
Thanks for watching, Darren! 😃

the kanken 17 with the organiser is going to be with me for the rest of my life.
I am new to your channel!!! Hope you are feeling better!!!
Thanks for watching, Martha! We’ll see you in the next one 😃
-Eric
Hey, I'm not sure if you will see this, but I have a question on whether it is more worth getting AER travel pack 2 at half price of AER Travel pack 3 in my country, 3 is simply put of the budget, or should I look for alternatives
I’m looking for a quality travel backpack with premium padding/mesh with a robust waste strap to hide my fats. Any suggestions? I like the functionality of the shimoda but I hate the colors! They are almost a glossy color :/
Where would you rank the Nordace Eclat Re:Life smart backpack ?
I recently just traded my peak design 45L to a eagle creek tour 55L. I loved the peak design bag had all the bells and whistles BUT that thing was a tank. I used it for a out 2 and a half years. The eagle creek pack is lighter. With fewer pockets you know exactly where your items are and the fit is more comfortable on different body types.
Thanks for sharing, Jasmin! 😃

1:47 - name of smart tracker company? it says ph or pho but saw no results
Hi, why does no one include the cotopaxi alpa in these travel bags when its clearly only made for travel?
Can you review the new “Osprey Archeon 30L”?
Hey there everyone I recently got the cabin zero 28 L Military bag for shorter trips this thing is Amazing!! I haven’t tried on a plane yet but will soon. Can you guys review it sometime ? Plus I have the classic 36 L for longer trips and love that one too!! Now all I travel with is a backpack noting else!! Thank you for all the great Tips and reviews 😊PS I got my husband addicted to one bag travel
Thanks for the suggestion, Terry! I’ll pass it along. I’m sure your husband loves it! 😂

can I carry this bag pack as personal bag with a cabin luggage?
Evergoods CTB26 has to be on here!
get well soon, tom!
