Hello Lucas. I love your videos! I just wish you would explain the process while you're working. I love learning about all the subtleties that can be missed. I hope you don't take this as criticism, I love what you do.
Hi Adrian, no worries, I don't take it as criticism at all! If anything as constructive criticism which is great! However, every time I get this asked/requested I unfortunately have to give the same answer. The time that it takes me to edit these videos the way the are is already a lot! If I have to talk to the camera and explain everytihng I'm doing it'll be even much longer! And as this is something I do for fun in my free time, I unfortunately can't afford that. That being said, I released an online course last year where I took the time to explain absolutely everyting that I'm doing (obrienguitars.com/courses/violin) and I'm planning on start streaming on twitch once in a while where I can do some talking as it's not as structured as I want my videos on UA-cam to be ;)
Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you liked it :) It's actually wood as well! Three strips of wood, two of them are dyed black and the other one is not.
What is the purfling for? It's already very thin to begin with. After the purfling inlaid is added, at least half of it is carved away. So, what is left is a tiny bit that remains all around the instrument, right? So what purpose does this serve?
Great work as always! I really have to know about this model... Am I correct that Rugieri, Ruggeri, Rugeri, Ruggieri etc. all are different spellings of the same maker/family? And then there's Rogeri, which is something different?
Thank you!! You're exaclty right...To be honest, I don't really know why it happened that he gets called in all the possible variations of the same name haha....Should probably investigate that haha
I am, yes. I'm not sure if you read my long explanation of why I'm gonna make a Strad model first a few videos back, but I'll do a B form next. As soon as I can afford the wood, which is proving difficult... After that, I'm currently interested in making a Rugeri, a Goffriller, a Bernardel and a Testore. Not sure I'll do all of them or in which order, but I think there are some very interesting sounding instruments by those makers that I would love to try the outline of at some point. Looks like a lot put like this, but then again... I don't mean to do it all right now :-P
Hi! Thanks for your comment. If you're talking about the intro then yes, you're absolutely right...I should not film those at night haha, it just happens to be when I remember to do so 😅 If it's on the parts where I'm working I'm afraid I can't do much about that, as working in dark conditions is quite important to us, so that we can play with the lights and the shades they create. This helps us understand the archings and the conditions of the surface better. I hope you get to enjoy at least some of it in spite of that :)

That's beautiful to watch - thank you for making this! What is the purling actually made of?

Well I'm glad to finally hear that from someone. Without all the books and teaching, it's really confusing as noone mentions it online :P
@@Tostra1997 are you interested in making a Rugeri model?

Luca, what distance is the purfling typically from the edge of the cello?
Luca, what material is the purpling made of?
Nice content however it's very dark for me. Makes it hard to watch. I suppose you need to get a better light.
It looks great on my monitor. Maybe it's your settings?
