Yeah! I could swear this house is one that the hillside started coming down in the rain. If so (or even if not) the plan and execution are perfect!! I enjoyed seeing it after it grew in a bit. Just gorgeous♡♡♡
Awesome work! We've got a slope roughly 35' tall that stretches across the width of our back yard and half of our property is on top of it. I've been looking for inspiration on how to make the top more accessible and this gave me a lot of ideas. Thanks for posting!
That first bottom wall is very tall. (And in this case it's probably fine, since there aren't a lot of windows facing that way.) But depending on what view you have from your house, and what kind of connection you want with your garden, perhaps you should consider making one first, low wall, to allow for a planting bed in front of the taller retaining wall. Perhaps even stagger the heights, with two levels of planting beds (each at least two foot deep), before the full height retaining wall. If planted right, with trailing plants spillning down from the top wall, and a mixed planting of decorative shrubs and perennials, your eyes will see a lush green garden from inside your home, and not just a concrete wall. This garden has a great viewing point up at the top, that for sure is worth the climb. If you don't have spectacular views to offer, you need something else worth the climb. Perhaps a pavilion? Or even a tiny 'writers cottage' or guest room? Also keep in mind that you font have to make your design straight and angular. A curving design may sit better in your particular landscape. I believe you should think through what you want your eyes to look at through your windows. Because that's probably the highest value in any garden design.
This is a trip i know exactly where theyre at ! Its amazing, we were building a retaining wall and fence higher up and im not 100% sure but i think this was around the same time and holy smokes it looks awesome
I would have done the hanging gardens of Babylon with raised beds everywhere , and short stair ways everywhere as well. On multiple levels. With deep posts of cement to keep it from washing down the hill in heavy rains. But I also like what you did. I love creativity.
We had that same hill in our backyard when I was young. It was covered in ivy and grandma would yell at us for climbing it. Especially when I was wearing my white pants. Who buys white pants for kids?!
I think that's what that groove was for, down the middle of the slope. Probably gonna put a pipe in there to collect/control excess water that comes over from the adjacent property above.
I so much appreciate your hard work in producing these. I do wish you could use software compatible w music recording, however. The sour, off-key, underwater sound is unnecessarily awful, if only you knew! So, I'm FYI'ing you..
@@terragardensca Call the local tech school or Community College; they'll have someone needing a one-time gig who might be able to teach you for only a few $$. Even the High Schools might have a student who can walk you through. For a decent payday, which I'm clueless to say what that amount should be. 😮
To each his own! You can saunter up the stairs at your own pace. The payoff is at the top, though, and Bay Area (if I'm right about location) has lovely late afternoon cool breezes that make the trip UP so worth it! (However a handrail would be helpful if you could make one that still allowed access to the garden beds.)
That’s definitely the San Francisco Bay Area. Always makes me smile to run across a random video from my area.
That’s what I was thinking too 😂

Facts I know the bay when I see it I'm from Oakland
It’s either El Cerrito or Richmond, cause we’re in Kensington and this looks to be right next to it! Nice transformation!
Definitely El Cerrito or Richmond as you can see Albany hill not to far in the distance in one of the last shots.

A great garden conversion and a valuable contribution to plants and naturalness in the urban environment.
Thank you so much!

How awesome!! I would love that, they have a full view of the city, literally! Imagine them watching fireworks from their backyard 🎉🙌🏽
Thank you so much!
What a nice spot to sit up at the top of the slope there!
Indeed! And with views of the Golden Gate Bridge 💕
Totally worth it. I would add a canopy over the bench for those hot or rainy days.
Thank you so much!
The Garden and view look awesome 🤩

Landslide waiting for a rainy day !

Them stairs will help with a workout ! 💗
Definitely!!
Great job! I love how you used the awkward top section for a viewing deck, that will be worth the climb.
Thank you so much! The client tells me he works up there and can look out at the bay and the golden gate bridge!

Great a work out set of stairs and beauty views

Used to do landscaping at houses with backyards like this in the San jose/Milpitas area
We had that same hill in our backyard when I was young. It was covered in ivy and grandma would yell at us for climbing it. Especially when I was wearing my white pants. Who buys white pants for kids?!
Rats love ivy. 😳😳😳 We tore ours out. It wasn't that much, but glad to see it GONE!!
@@youresoakinginit2113 Never saw any and if I had that would’ve been the last of my climbing through the ivy!
HAHA
Super ideja!

Maybe a railing in the middle of those stairs, for those who have serious walking issues!? Please, it's just something to ponder😌
When the city planner says “bet I can get one more row of property tax- I mean real estate!
LOL
I would this house yesterday!
I would this house yesterday too!

Several thousand.
It was around 70k
@@terragardensca Thanks, I hope it was worth it
That backyard nicer than the house
thank you!
OMG! 😍
Thank you so much!
Richmond, Ca
Close! el cerrito
I can see Albany hill when they pan up the stairs. So this is either the El Cerrito (North) hills or Richmond CA.
Correct 🫡
Looks like Richmond.
yeah it is, right newr Del Norte bart
I guessed el sobrante
El cerrito!
Definitely El Cerrito area. I see the Albany hill park.
You got it!
Ayye, El Cerrito!
Wait is this the Bay Area? San Francisco, Berkeley?
You got it! El cerrito
I would never buy a house with a yard like that.
Thanks for your comment!
GOOD LUCK WITH THAT ONE
THANKS!
I hope you don’t get much rain where you live…
California. We wish we got more, but we had a large storm last year and the garden is holding up :)
Awesome way to at . Because just a heavy day of rain could flud the house

We had huge storms this past winter and the garden is holding up! Thanks for watching
Or you could have regraded to have one large area instead of several levels of terrace 😅
But then there goes the view😢😮
Yes a tricky site indeed. Thanks for watching!
dope
Thank you!
Is this in el sobrante ca?
I don't know, but I think I saw Albany Hill!!! And the SF skyline. Someone else said Bay Area; it really does have its own look.
@@youresoakinginit2113 your right could be Albany hill

You are correct!
I bet the neighbors don’t like the new view into their homes from atop

A lot!
Nice garden to host a 5k marathon in 😂👍

This is in San Pablo or Richmond ca isn’t it? I see the Albany hill in the background
you got it!
Great work man!

SO BIG
@@terragardensca You have an amazing yard😊
I would have put a tiny house up there for rent and then all the gardens, way too many steps. Actually I never would have bought that property.

What about flooding?
We planted densely along the hill, and had some rough storms this past winter and it has held up! Thanks for watching
Mud slide.
We had heavy rains last year and it has held up! Thanks for watching
Still be stuffed at my age you needed a winch put in there
That would have helped us :D
All you need now is an ashtray
And a cuppa

San leandro
Close! El cerrito
I hate my slope
They are tricky!! I feel your pain 😅
Wonder how they water these plants
We installed drip irrigation! Water efficient
Lol @slope
No lies told here
I imagine you have to replace your back door yearly from all the rain rotting it
hopefully not!
Why?
Because
Nope, needed to make it a Grotto. Dig in, reinforce and swim in aim out with covered tubed slide
1 big rain storm and see you later
It's survived a big one this past winter!
