He probably lived to 84… If we believe his mother. Never understood why he himself claimed he was born in 1916 when his mother said 1913. They touch on the subject in this interview but he dodges the question and is reluctant to answer.
@@listonheinz9103 He did that on purpose fer suspense. He admitted his age in the Bob Costas interview. He admitted to being in his 40s vs. Floyd Patterson. His obituary reads *Born 1913* ..BUT of course Marciano fans always go with 1916
I still don’t understand how some men don’t get punch drunk and others do Still don’t see how him or Sugar Ray Robinson still had their wits even after retirement
This man was simply superhuman to say the least!! 145 knockouts!! more than 200 fights..... and he sounded as articulate as it hadn’t fought a single day in his life.....
I love Archie...What a great human being...And I like his vocabulary , hearing words I have not heard in a long time, as he effortlessly cruises thru this interview as he cruised thru 12 rounds of boxing...
What a man , this guy is not only a great boxer but an inspiration to all people ,with his selfless work and humanitarian approach to life,I would have been proud to have met him,God bless him.
219 Fights!!!! Lived to be 81. Some men are just built different. I bet he has a thicker skull then a normal man. Either that or just pure determination to NEVER QUIT!
Archie Moore defined and till defines what a champion is! His character was the only thing greater than his boxing prowess. I'm certain that there are literally thousands of people in the world today that flourish because of his efforts long ago. What a legend, and what a legacy.
@Chris Tasse Archie is in a class all by himself! What he did at an old age was incredible. Especially back in those days without all the comfort and medical treatment. I really admire him!
Wow, this interview was amazing. It touches on Life and death Childhood adversity Politics: Perone Argentina Boxing history Character building organizations for kids.
Archie Moore is a legend in boxing. Thank you for sharing this interview. Even after 200 professional fights, at the highest level, he remained a well-spoken, highly intelligent man.
what an awe inspiring human being Archie was! And how like him to change Any Boy Can to Anybody Can. he is absolutely right: not to have a teacher in your life such as him does mean that you're deprived. genuinely uplifting. thank you.
A 10 YEAR, 10 year Light Heavyweight champion who took the strap off Joey Maxim at the age of 39... his loss to Charlie Burley, a murderer's row fighter (blacks forced to fight each other because sure as heck anyone else ducked them)... is one of the few legit losses in his prime. Extraordinary fighter and man! Actor... the whole deal. A definite GOAT contender... a man who told Ali he'd better develop his chin to face the future... this man fought so long... he was probably older than Foreman was when he fought Marciano for heavyweight and rocked the young man's world without clinching the win.
The boxers boxer, he's the epitome of a professional boxer. Hardest working and arguably most durable boxer in history, 220 professional fights. Lived to be in his mid 80s with zero neurological or cognitive impairment.
This was a great interview and shows why his legacy continues to this day in the foundation he started over 65 years ago. Any Body Can Youth Foundation is still here fighting for our youth.
What a great man, dosent care about money and uses it to help people. In his words ‘ money is just a medium’ More people in the world need to hear this today
The great "Old Mongoose" sat in the corner of George Foreman. Knocked the great Rocky Marciano down and Rocky Marciano got a long count (no disrespect to Rocky Marciano). This guy was such an amazing human being. Strong physically, mentally, morally and spiritually. And did it all with a good sense of humor. Fought the great Ali (his student) and he was so far past his prime. Wanted to smack the young braggadocious Ali in the face for acting in such a manner. This guy was "class act" personified. He is an example of what it means to be a human being with remarkable faith in God and willing to work hard and never giving up. "THE OLD MONGOOSE."
@@fredflux2738 But, you know, it is a Catch-22 for boxers fighting on their way out. The up and coming boxer must perform his trade an skill. The older boxer chose to be in the ring, probably for a pay day. And, people paid to watch. And, the old champion has the potential to have a punch left in him. The young guy is forced to hit an old man and look like a villain. Marciano boxing an old Joe Louis, the same thing. Marciano cried after the fight, having to punch out his idol, and an American icon and hero.
Class act...great man for all to wittness and be inspired by...u can't think or say anything else about him after seeing and hearing this man...regardless of color...its just great that he is black and to know we produce these kind of people...he is a surviver and fighter and a great 1as we all should be...who are or where are the rest of humanity who share views experience and opinions that are white or another race?im sure when 1 experiences this man they wish they where related to him as if he was their family.thats the mark of a man.nobody wants to be like these white men of yesteryear or today that I see and or none in comparison to a man like this.

HUH?????????????? Number 1. I'm black myself. Number 2. Class has nothing to do with skin color, anyone can be classy. I simply said Archie was extremely classy.
15:30 story about Clay, truthful, funny and poignant to that Los Angeles 1962 pre fight scene. I admire Ali (Clay) but wish Archie had actually slapped his childish ass for mimicking him.
Great man that Archie! Jim Day...on the other hand wasn't a good interviewer...rambles on with questions and then interrupts...not letting the man answer his question...interrupting with some other question!!
Sorry about your journalist colleague but nobody tunes in to see you guys, you are not the story, though you often think you are. Let's see Archie Moore.
The Mongoose, my Grandfather's favorite fighter. Excellent interview!

That's why people can't say Floyd is the GOAT. Yeah he never lost but there are fighters with longer more wins on a streak
Agreed
When he was born the doctor didn't saw a normal human hand, they saw boulders
I'm 20 and I love these og boxers talk. much knowledge

I literally came here to verify his health after seeing his monstrous winning record and losses.
@@LordDirus007 His longevity and his clear mind are undoubtedly due to his old school defensive skills. He also trained hard and lived clean.
@@LordDirus007 Yes, Archie had love in his heart for life.
@Chris Tasse He took a beating against Rocky and kept getting up. Definitely a different breed. Lived through the Great Depression and WW2.

I do wish the interviewer would shut his mouth and let Moore do the talking
THIS is a man boys and girls. THIS is a role model. We could use 1,000 Archie Moore's today.
why is it every time a smart kind black guy speaks we have too say how classy he is like its a shock that a black guy can be smart and classy.
I didn't know black ppl couldn't be classy ok
Because the world doesn't show and promote these types of black men that whenever u see one in any era of time u appreciate it.
Because the black people you see in the inner cities these days behave crazy and say the n word and bruh every sentence.
If people say he's classy you say this. If people didn't say he was classy, you'd say it's because he's black. Can't win.
Ali was Very influenced by Archie, his poem at the end is very similar to Ali's 'recipe for life' poem
a great man.
won the title and received 800 dollars wow
800 $ back then was like 80,000 bread cost 15¢ back then
Yea 800 back then was a lot
