The catholic church does not baptize as Peter taught. Peter taught in order to receive the Holy Spirit you must be baptized " In the name of Jesus Christ." And by your name we forced out demons and did many miracles.' (23) Then I will tell those people clearly, 'Get away from me, you people who do wrong. I never knew you.'
You can't begin to understand the implications of this parable without tying it together with the parable of the 10 virgins in Mt. 25 (the coming of the bridegroom) and Jesus's allusion to the Messianic Banquet (Is 25) in Mt. 8 (sons of the kingdom thrown out), along with His exposition on the Coming of the Son of Man and the lesson of the fig tree in Mt. 24 and the 'some standing here' to see His coming in Mt.16. When you do that you find Jesus's Coming, resurrection of the dead, and judgment of Old Covenant Israel all in perfect harmony, occurring in the first century (with AD 70 destruction of Jerusalem and the Mosaic system fitting the bill nicely). All this meshes with Revelation's telling of the destruction of Babylon (i.e., Jerusalem, for 'in her was found the blood of prophets and saints'), the harlot wife, followed by the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Wow! Additionally, the biblically pervasive motif of Yahweh and Israel's marriage and divorce found in Jer. 31 and Hos. 1,2 is worth serious investigation, as it integrates with the wedding theme of the marriage feast parable and associated passages.

I still struggle with the "many are called, but few are chosen" lines in scripture. Does the Church teach that most people are going to hell? I don't see how that couldn't be the case with lines like this from scripture.
@Tony Spinelle Thank you for that brief summary. When you say that the Church won't say "most" people are going to hell, do you know if that's because She doesn't interpret these types of scripture passages that way, or is it more like She doesn't have the authority to say that? And I've heard people say things similar to your last sentence, but I've heard equally respectable people denounce that line of thought. Overall, I find myself to still be confused when it comes to salvation theology (soteriology). I'm a relatively recent revert to the faith, trying to get myself caught up to speed on Church teachings, and that's the one area I find most interesting, confusing, and troubling.
@@nickk4851 The latter, I would say, Nick. The Church won't even say that Stalin is in hell. It doesn't know for sure, and beyond what has been revealed is left in the realm of mystery. But it is a sobering line. Another one is the verse about how if we try to save our lives, we'll lose them. Alright, expand that out to the Protestant 'get-out-of-jail-free' monopoly card and the question of if our only motivation for following Christ is to avoid hell... I keep coming back to a relationship. God wants a loving relationship with us. He doesn't just want to be our 'get-out-of-jail-free' card.
@@paulmiller3469 I find that interesting, how the Church wouldn't speak as to how many people (even in general terms) are likely in hell, when we have scripture passages that say things like "many are called, but few are chosen". Are we saying the Church doesn't have the authority to interpret all of scripture? How can Jesus say things like this and the Church not interpret it? If the Church isn't going to interpret it, who is? Jesus said "many are called, but few are chosen". That means something, and it sounds like a very severe warning regarding our salvation. P.s. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my comments. I'm just trying to understand this stuff.
@@nickk4851 I think its more along the lines of some things being open to interpretation and some things just relegated to mystery. Not speculating about who may be in hell seems fully in line with Christ's teachings to me.

Once heard, when you were invited, the king provided everything you needed to attend including the clothes--so this guy must have refused these items. The garments would be the Sacrament of Reconciliation, where we can be clothed in righteousness, a clean soul, but this guy refused. Therefore, the king (God) was angry and tossed him out into the outer darkness for refusing the king's mercy. Hope this helps...
@@sherrywhite1517 Pretty much what I was taught. The wedding garment is our baptismal garment. I heard one version where the first ones asked to the Beatific Vision were the Angels. We know from scripture that 1/3 of them refused it and followed Satan to their destruction. I think that is where some of the Fathers said that now God was inviting humans, the number of which would replace those Angels. It was also said that the King would provide the wedding garment (and everything needed for the feast) and you just had to show up. But these garments were expensive and most likely the guest without one sold his for the money and still tried to show up at the wedding. Think of Esau (I said Jacob first but Paul Miller caught my mistake) who sold his inheritance for a bowl of soup.

I know I'd happily refuse to attend anything at all to do with royalty just for the simple and completely sound reason that it *is* something established by royalty- the vermin of the earth is what they are, same with anyone not depending on the consent of the *governed* for their power. I'd not only refuse, but send a completely contempt-bearing letter to them telling them exactly where those filth can stuff it, merely because of their offices.
And that letter would probably be tossed aside these days in western monarchy. But I wonder if you'd be so bold if you knew the action of sending the letter might cost you your life? Also, if you are that strongly opposed to any kingdom, then... well... I don't know what to say. As for me, I'd rather sweep streets in the Kingdom of God than own the streets anywhere in this world.
@@chissstardestroyer I would say if you are standing up for a friend, that is sacrificial love; but if you are just standing up for yourself, that's pride and arrogance.

(22) On that last Day many will call me Lord. They will say, 'Lord, Lord, by the power of your name we spoke for God. And by your name we forced out demons and did many miracles.'
(23) Then I will tell those people clearly, 'Get away from me, you people who do wrong.
I missed something. Why does the guy without the wedding garment get punished? If he was poor, he couldn't afford any clothes.
It's only a metaphor wedding garment symbolizes Jesus Eucharist, death and resurrection of Jesus wrapping around all over our body and soul. Now if we are Without the wedding garment which is Without God Jesus the Saviour's saving loving acts his death and Resurrection wrapping around us and without participating in his Grace to Repent to go to Confession of Priest and in his Grace to do our best in his helped to obey HIS WILL . I think we are Doomed to decide to choose Hell just like the man who send himself to Hell.
@@lavander961 Thank you for your great reply. I also just heard Dr. Tim Grey explain that everyone who comes to the feast should be covered in the works of love
The man without wedding garment probably represents "lukewarm" christians:
"But because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold, not hot, I will begin to vomit thee out of my mouth."
- Revelation 3:16 (DRA)

Be careful not to be the one trying to attend the banquet whom has not cleaned up & prepared, put on his finest spiritual clothes.
Brother you should have explained the whole parable, you have not explained the whole parable...
This is a sample from a much longer explanation that you pay for in a subscription 😉
I just still dont understand what the garment means

What is the meaning of wedding vestments....??
Why he was cast out...?
Can anyone please explain..?
Khrotso Koza there may another part in a day or two. Otherwise the video might be too long.
@@sherrywhite1517 Thank you very much...God bless you 🙏
@@sherrywhite1517 Pretty much what I was taught.
@@39knights Esau, not Jacob.
So if the good and the bad are invited, why is the one poorly dressed kicked out? Does he represent those with the stain of unrepentant sin?

@@paulmiller3469 Not at all, for one's allowed to die or to kill to defend oneself from being murdered, which's what that king's troops were clearly engaged in doing, so that monarch himself is a mass-murderer who himself has to be lynched.
