I'm a nube at this whole T keeping thing and this video was amazingly helpful. You even broke down the substrate constituents by name and percentage. Totally helpful. Thank you.
Just made one of these for my B. albo sling using the small car display case. Perfect size. I even used the same glitter canister for the hide. Thank you very much for the instructional video.
What brilliant ideas for the hides and drinking bowl...... I also enjoy creating things, so I'll give these a go myself. Being disabled and housebound I have to rely on the Internet for everything, which means I can't handle a product... eg can't see if the bottom is shaped like a small water bowl = so frustrating 😟
Thanks for posting a really interesting and informative video. The display cases are a great idea ! You're so right about the loud clicking noises the plastic lids make - sound advice 👍🏼 I shall be getting my very first spiderling{s} in 3 to 4 weeks. Before I take this massive step I gathering as much information as I can. They say prevention is better than cure.... I really don't want to be learning from my own mistakes.
Glade you found this helpful. I have a micro climate that I have been having good luck with as well. Here is a link to that video: ua-cam.com/video/UwVx7vK9vxE/v-deo.html
Thank you! Best of luck with your new B. smithi. I really like mine. I got him/her in May at about .5 inches and it has molted twice and grown to about an inch.
Went to Hobby Lobby today and found a display case for a model car that I'm going to use. Printed your template (thanks!) and hope my Dremel skills will be adequate. Can't wait to get the little guy/gal into the new enclosure. I found some Coco Fiber to use as a substrate and plan to use your idea shown to make a hide and tiny water dish. THANK YOU!
this is brilliant, thank you so much. I got my first g. pulchta sling the other day and I hate the current box I hold it in, this is a perfect solution, just ordered a Sixpack!
This video is awesome, I love your creativity! I would never have thought to use displays like that for slings. If I ever get into Ts I will definitely go this route for housing them. Thank you so much for making this! :)
Sweet! What are you getting? +TarantulaSam right on! Thanks for the link. I'll be heading to Hobby Lobby today to grab the cases. I've got a green bottle blue and brazilian giant white knee coming in. Cannot wait!
Would the small hotwheels display cases be good for slings between 1/4-3/4 inch? I have quite a few slings between those sizes in deli cups and would like to put them in containers that would actually look nice displayed on a shelf or what not.
Good video. One thing with plants from Michaels or hobby stores is some of the fake plants have paint that will run off when wet. It may be better to get fake plants from a pet shop or animal safe ones online.
Being paranoid about things like that with slings isn't a bad thing. They can be very sensitive to chemicals and what not so it's good to think about what they are coming in contact with. I always wash my hands and anything the sling will come in contact with very well to avoid any problems. I've also been hesitant to use hot glue but it seems like it's probably OK, I know some very experienced keepers who use it but sometimes less is better for slings.
Glenn Lauer can't find anything similar to these boxes here in U.K. Think I could order Amac containers from USA, but I expect the postage would be huge 🙄 Have you any advice please ?
How big should the air holes be, I have a hero cult and the air holes are maybe an eighth of an inch or so, my T is a 1 inch long gbb. I’m wondering if he can get through the holes. He looks big enough but his abdominal area is a little bigger than the holes. And the body is around the same size if not a little bigger! What do you think?
Thank you! So far so good! My little baby is happy in his new enclosure! He has been there for over 24 hours now. I think he is just a little bigger, it’s by a small amount!
I have not used a Solder Iron; however, I think the plastic is thick enough that it would make a bit of a mess to try and melt holes. If you want it to look the cleanest, I would probably uses a drill or dremel.
The problem with a soldering iron is that it is very hard to keep the holes consistent and small. I attempted it and it didn't work so well. I do use soldering irons on all of my larger containers. I will try the drill with a small bit for the Hobby Lobby cases. Nice Video
Nice. A 1:2 mix of salt:sugar provides a stunning wintery, cheap, and nutritious substrate for display Ts. Add a custom egg poacher for an elegant water dish. A coconut makes a great object for your T to hide behind or burrow beneath. An old casserole dish makes for a unique enclosure, use a placemat as a lid and apply a potted plant to weigh it down. A crowd pleaser if nothing else. Spray the whole enclosure down once a week with a standard garden pesticide.
For slings no. But I do plan on using larger containers like these for juveniles and sub-adults, and for those I plan on drilling a hole for a locking pin so the lid cannot be pushed.
Oh ok. I have 2 slings (Greenbottle & Brazilian Salmon) and I have them in the smallest critter keepers sold in stores and never observed them try and climb the sides of them as of yet.
There is a 1/4ish inch lip on these containers that would accommodate a lock system. I have used the lip to lock my arboreal enclosures I have made. ua-cam.com/video/7bLwAAzTkTk/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/-Cwy3zIbMkg/v-deo.html
Great ideas. I actually just went to my local hardware store on a whim and they had a bunch of scrapped cuts of acrylic sheet and they sold me like five 48"x "6 strips for $5. Figure I spend $20 on a cutter And some cement. Bam. 5-6 enclosures for $25 ! (Just need to find hinges
I move them to bigger display cases. I am due to upload a new video. I have rehoused 2 of my spiders into larger displace cases. I'll try and have a video soon.
omg I love that enclosure !! can you make me a few? I will pay for it.. I don't know how to drill holes in it.. the only one thing I worry about is that the lid com off so easy my t would push it up and climb out..It's it safe? Please let me know I need 3 of that one on the front
Hey Sam, Yep I got it for my slings.. :) the top come off very easily so I put a heavy object on top just in case but it's a nice enclosure.. I got some more acrylic ones in Walmart and it comes with a lid lock, I wish I can show you on pics, UA-cam doesn't allow post pics in comments.. Add me on Facebook if you can , Monique Dee (Mo)

On my tightest ones, I close it leaving a cap large enough that I can get a coin in under the lip. I use the coin to wedge it up gently. It is a bit annoying, but I don't much mind.

Wow! Dude you got talent. I was looking for a container for a tarantula, but you just solved my problem. Thanks!
my mom wont let me get a tarantula but i really enjoy these i just subscribed :)
aquadrop and mlp glad you're making sure you learn all you can to ensure you'll be prepared when she finally caved and lets you get one👍🏽
aquadrop and mlp me too
aquadrop and mlp i feel you
Get one anyway, easy to hide
Same here... She promised me that she'll get one after i graduate 6th grade but she never got one for me😢 luckily i have seen dwarf tarantulas here😂👌

Great ideas! I just bought three Curly Hair slings today and I’m currently making enclosures for them so this is greatly appreciated!
Came here looking for spiderling hides and you did not disappoint!
Omg those tiny hides are too cute!!
Amazing use of cheap everyday objects! I'm very impressed. thanks for sharing the ideas for some good looking sling homes.
So helpful. Especially like the hides. Thanks.
The vent holes look perfect, thanks for the template.
What size drill bit did you use and any advice on how Not to crack the acrylic ?
His other video says he uses 7/64
I LOVE your creativity and frugality! I'm really enjoying your vids!
I cant thank you enough! I just got my first spider, and I couldnt for the life of me think of a way to make a hide for it.
Love your ideas on sling enclosures! Again, thank you.

Thank you! Yeah, these display cases work great.
Nice & neat enclosures nice tips too👍😎cool
SO so glad I found this video! I have 2 baby P. Regius jumping spiders and the small enclosure will be perfect. Thank you!
Love these. Have 2 slings coming in later this week. Birthday present to me and will definitely set their enclosures up like this

Wow you are very creative and those look very nice!!
Great stuff you gave me some inspiration towards my new enclosure
Interesting video on making spider-ling housing. I'll have to keep this in mind if I get any. Thanks.
hey Steve thank you just did this today and work out great
Going to have some slings soon these will look way better thank you!!
Awesome thank you so much!! Very helpful...I have been looking 🕷🕸
So glad I found this video. These are cute.
OMG Those hides are so adorable
Thanks for the tips, you're awesome. Grabbed two baseball cases myself.
You can those at The Dollar Tree at 2 for a dollar. You have to drill the holes, but it's really easy. They come in many sizes as well.
I just found you on UA-cam and I LOVE your videos, new subscriber :)
this is great. I'm going to do this. what do you use for a drill to make the air holes?
OMG these are perfect looking.
great video, I'm about to buy some of the baseball enclosures of my growing slings.
Thanks for this idea I used it for my baby Scorpion 🦂
“I don’t have THAT many, only 6.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Abby Wouters well, I still don’t have very many and I now have 28 Tarantulas, 4 Scorpions, and 2 true Spiders 😜
Would the small hotwheels display cases be good for slings between 1/4-3/4 inch? I have quite a few slings between those sizes in deli cups and would like to put them in containers that would actually look nice displayed on a shelf or what not.
I am currently using the hotwheels size for six of my slings. 3 of them are at the .25 to .5 mark. The others are starting to come close to an inch.
Great idea man, will be taking a trip to hobby lobby.
Nice video, good voice and picture. You gave me a good idea for my B. smitthi juvi that will come soon.
Glad I could help :)
This is very nice video, might be using this idea for my spiderlings. :)
I’m think about getting a Euathlus sp red sling and this helped me a lot
Wow!! Great info here thank you! :)
I love these cases and have made several enclosures with them. It was a very sad day when they stopped doing the 40% off coupons.
Good video. One thing with plants from Michaels or hobby stores is some of the fake plants have paint that will run off when wet. It may be better to get fake plants from a pet shop or animal safe ones online.
Your a really nice person, start making vids again. Your awesome😄
Mind blowing. Great job
This was incredibly helpful, thank you so much!
Thank you so much very helpful
omg so cute you are very creative!!
This might be a dumb question but is the hot glue really ok for the slings? New to taking care of these little guys so I'm a little paranoid!
SkullChild I have many times as well as many others. Just make sure it cools all the way before letting your T near it.
TarantulaSam Thank you so much for replying and so quickly too!
Being paranoid about things like that with slings isn't a bad thing. They can be very sensitive to chemicals and what not so it's good to think about what they are coming in contact with. What do you use to cut the plastic Glitter containers?
very creative and impressive
Great idea on the cases
This was incredibly helpful
Thanks for your ideas! ✌🏻
Thank you I'm subscribed now
What drill bit did you use for the holes
that's what u want to know. also, are the holes small enough to prevent fruit flies from escaping?
Very nice, if they did not grow like weeds, but otherwise, good for a whole two molts!
Haha! Well I have some Grammostolas, Brachypelmas and an Aphonopelma so they are lasting me for a while.
right as he said pop a firework out side went off
You are incredibly creative
What about the tarantula opening the lid.ive had scorpions and tarantulas move wire lids back in the day.
There has been enough friction on mine that that have not been able to move the lids.
Awesome ideas I use amac containers myself!
Glenn Lauer can't find anything similar to these boxes here in U.K.
Think I could order Amac containers from USA, but I expect the postage would be huge 🙄
Have you any advice please ?
could you half the substrate and add some branches and house a small jumping spider in the softball case
i put my OBT spiderling in the smallest one shes doing great
❤❤
Awesome idea...I hate the idea of deli cups!!
If it can fit it’s cephalothorax through, it can escape. If the holes are smaller than the cephalothorax you should be good.
The abdomen can contort, so never judge the holes by the abdomen.
Thank you! So far so good! My little baby is happy in his new enclosure! He has been there for over 24 hours now. I think he is just a little bigger, it’s by a small amount!
is it ok to put a "sphagnum moss" as a bedding?
Could I use a small Solder Iron to melt the holes, or would a drill work better?
I have not used a Solder Iron; however, I think the plastic is thick enough that it would make a bit of a mess to try and melt holes. If you want it to look the cleanest, I would probably uses a drill or dremel.

Do they still make these display boxes? I can't find them on hobby lobby's website :(

Really Creative!
This is awesome ! Also would you happen to have templates for the other two enclosures elsewhere?
this vid was extremely helpful! thnx for the info!
Ever worry about the lids being knocked off or just overall coming off case?
For slings no. But I do plan on using larger containers like these for juveniles and sub-adults, and for those I plan on drilling a hole for a locking pin so the lid cannot be pushed.

what did you use to drill holes?? thanks!
my channel I used a rotary tool.
What do you use to make the holes, how big is it?
Great ideas. I actually just went to my local hardware store on a whim and they had a bunch of scrapped cuts of acrylic sheet and they sold me like five 48"x "6 strips for $5. Figure I spend $20 on a cutter And some cement. Bam. 5-6 enclosures for $25 ! (Just need to find hinges
What do you keep them in when the spiders get bigger?
I move them to bigger display cases. I am due to upload a new video. I have rehoused 2 of my spiders into larger displace cases. I'll try and have a video soon.
what are you cutting the holes, hides, and dishes with?
I have used both a Dremel to cut the holes and dishes and a drill.

could the case have any harmful chemicals in them? I don't want my sling to get hurt
syfyraptor rex I have twelve in them and they are all doing great. Some have been in them now for 9 months.
TarantulaSam good to know. The cages look really cool. Thanks for the cool idea.
TarantulaSam do you have a link to where you bought these?
😍👍👍👍
Where do you get that acrylic container or what is it exactly called like is it 4 x 4 what
www.hobbylobby.com/search/?text=display+case
The larger one is a the softball case, the medium one is the baseball case, and the small one is the six pack model care cases.
Can i use nails that i heat up to make holes in the sides ...? I'm scared to drill tiny holes like that lol
I have never tried, so I really do not know. In theory it could work; however, the holes will likely be less clean.
Yeah ..my girl loves spiders :)..We just have jumping spiders :).
Can I just buy these from you?
CptPhenom I was going to ask the same lol
CptPhenom why they’re super easy to make
What do I do for slings that don't use the hide but are always in the upper corners
I just let them hang out. I have one that just did this. It filled is hid with dirt and is always up near the top. It's a G. portari.
So im a beginner i want 2 get a sling what breed is good for 1st timers maybe something that grows a little faster and hard to kill off lol

How big is that one in the far right ? How big of a T could you fit in there ?
One that fits
imbrittnieG 🤦🏻♂️
Hobby Lobby announced that they are closing... Where can you get them online?
www.hobbylobby.com/search/?text=display+case
I use the blue boxes or the ones with the care on the front.
I think he means closing in his area
How old Do you have to be to buy a tarantula? And do you need a caertificate Just for one how much does it cost Im only 13
I am sure different pet stores have different polices regarding the minimum age to purchase different animals. If there is a tarantula at a pet shop that you have your eye on, I would just call them up and ask them. I have never been asked about any certificate nor do I have any, so you should be good there.
Well Halelujah Thanks Kuya I live in the phillipines
Sometimes its hard to get the lid off without making a disturbance.
r u worried about the T’s being able to knock the tops off?
Darth Flipper not at all. All mine fit really tight. One is almost too tight.
thats my current concern. i bought the 8x5x6 and the lid is too tight. so tight i need two hands to open the top. any suggestions on making that easier so i don't startle the T when time to feed?
On my tightest ones, I close it leaving a cap large enough that I can get a coin in under the lip. I use the coin to wedge it up gently. It is a bit annoying, but I don't much mind.
From where you buy that Boxes?
Can a Ferraro container work for tersetrials
ideas for a scorpion enclosure?
I've been banging my head on ideas. My scorps have the worst enclosures, but they work. My 3 zone bark scorps are in a plastic shoe box that cost like 1.70 at walmart. My emperor is in a critter keeper with the vents blocked.
Can't get these shipped to .uk
My tarantula sling won't eat, what should i do?
How big is it and what are you trying to feed it. Some slings will not take live prey, but will scavenge. It also may be in premolt. Is its abdomen really fat?
Yeah, it might be in premolt stage👌
