Hey Lindsay! I love this journal! My youngest daughter just started painting with watercolor and I want to encourage that so I have been supplying her with simple things to help her. I have found that I can take regular 110 # card stock and apply gesso and it instantly makes a surface that can be water colored on without the terrible wiggle and pelling that happens with just plan paper (I have a gallon of gesso and lots of card stock, and sometimes watercolor paper is just so unruly to work with, this process allows for ease and economy). With that said I think this journal will give her something she can take on her nature walks to sketch and then later paint. This would be a great idea for myself also I just realized (LOL, funny how we think of our children first). Thank you SO much for this great video, you always provide us with such great ideas.
I love how you could swap something out it would still work. I personally love even smaller sketchbooks and scrapbook paper covers and it’s so easy to just use a different paper and use a different size! Well done!
Awesome project & idea! I have some penciled word art pages of grandkids' names and after completing the designs in sharpie markers & framing them, I didn't want to throw away my pencil designs. This is a perfect way to preserve them! Thank you!
I'm so glad I watched this. My wife and I make handmade coloring books and we hand bind them. We've talked about making handmade journals and sketch books to add to our inventory. This is absolutely perfect and so fun! Thank you so much for sharing.
I really like this tutorial. I've used the Yes paste before in paper mache projects. It is archival and when it's thinned a bit with water, it is better than any flour and water paste.
I love your projects, Lindsay! Even if I don't make each one, your videos are so entertaining! I find myself giggling sometimes because you are so cheerful! Thank you for taking all your spare time to entertain your subscribers 😄
@thefrugalcrafter I found this video this weekend and I have watched it about three times. I love this idea so much that I made my first journal (that's going to be a gift) and it turned out so well. Thank you so very much for this lovely idea!
I just completed making this cute little journal. I wanted to add something homemade to my sisters' birthday present. I made a couple minor mistakes on this one, but I know that the next time I make one it will be perfect! Thanks so Lindsay, hope you had a great weekend...beautiful weather here in NS, I know you guys basically get the same weather as us! haha
Im glad I found this gem! I am planning on making autograph books for our Disneyworld trip. I planned to cut composition books in half but like this idea better. I got loads of disney papers and Disney washi tape.
This is amazing! Even my two year old watched with me the whole time and says want one! Gives me a reason to go crazy with my gelli plates! I think it would make a great surface to write encouraging quotes on to make a little inspirational book. Lindsey, you are AWESOME! Thank you!
This is fabulous! I watched once before tonight & couldn't remember the measurements. Watched again & this time took notes & drew little diagrams. Then saw your instructions that you posted! Der. :) Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
Love how easy you made that project look. Very unique gift to make for someone. They could be personalized with the persons name or decorated especially for someone you know who enjoys journaling.
Great tutorial Lindsay. I would love to see you create the planner. Your mind must run in overdrive. Tiresome for you but great for us. Thanks and have a blessed day.
Hi Lindsay, LOVE making these little books ! Your binding method is sure appealing and I'm going to give this a try versus doing the long stitch style I usually do. Another great tutorial from you, thank you. Cheers ! Janis
That is a stupendous idea for binding single sheets. It might be interesting to bind photographs the same way and journal on the back of each picture. An album like that would also make a fun gift after an event.
That could be a great way to put together mixed media pages I’ve already created. That way I could work on them flat before making them into a journal. Thanks ❤️
The carft paper to cover the designed side is so clever! Even if you don't scrunch it. I've spent days doing layers and layers of acrylic paint to try cover up the designs and it ends up cracking in the spine folds! Definitely going to give this a try with some cute scrapbook papers for my friends :D
I just love how you put this together. You are just so talented. Thanks so much for sharing. Now l have something to show my hubby as to why all the saved boxes. !!! Lol
As an ardent recyler (is that a word? lol!) I am toally in love with this project. I have been thinking about what to use my old boxes and bits'n'pieces for and now I know! Thx so much, this is def my next project x
Love this, Lindsay - I love making books anyway, and faux leather is extra fun. Probably since you painted it right away this wouldn't be a good idea, but Dawn's Inspirations' Dawn did a tutorial last year on faux leather using Kraft paper or paper bags (which are very difficult to find anymore!) Distress inks and, ta da, your favorite, Lindsay, glycerine to make faux leather. It's very nice looking and after adding a coat of Mod Podge (matte) it's very durable and leather-like.
You were so right. It is a great, cute and inexpensive idea to use up Gelli prints! Love to recycle too. The ribbon mark is super useful and pretty. What do you think about creating a rectangular journal and putting the button on the outside and the band going around top and bottom? We could use a toggle to anchor the book band instead of a button. So many ways and uses! Thanks Lindsay :)
I did this 4 months after watching this video but instead of a journal I made it into a planner :3 so its pretty big but worth it till next year Thanks for this tutorial
A really great idea for a teachers gift or stocking stuffers, (yes rushing the season) but if it had a wintery scene it would be perfect. I can think of lots of things to do with them. Thank You for the great idea. Dot
I love those small journals they are very cute. I've been thinking about starting an art journal and I think these are a very good size to start with. Great use for the washi tape and recycling empty boxes. Thanks for sharing.
Totally going to try this, have just the papers to do it with...thanks for the inspiration! I love the rounded corners as well....they are wonderful! TFS Anita
Thank you Lindsay. I was looking for something to make and keep track of the things I'll do in my trip to London. This could turn out really amazing. Thanks for the idea! Happy summer holidays!!
I have got to try these journals they are so cute! Thank you for the Papermart connection, nice web site, another one I'll spend too much money at. LOL
hi Lindsay! I just completed my first journal!! yee haw!! :-) no, it's not perfect that's why I'm starting the SECOND one;-) Now if I could talk my husband into buying some paint pens or better yet the big Pitt pens?!? It took a while, but I did it. Thanks again for your help and tutorial!!
Look out, Lindsay, your genius is showing :-) These are fantastic!!!!! They would make great student planners, too...you could used your school colors. Talk about endless possibilities.
Lindsay I love this! I think it's one of my most favorite projects I've seen from you! I love them all but I'm a writer and artist so this is extra special.
So awesome! :) Thank you Lindsay. You always have good tutorials and you explain them very well..especially since I'm a visual learner this helps so much. Yay, now I want to make one. I always find the most interesting little journal things that I want, tend to be more on the expensive side and now I can do my own! Thanks again!
