I always enjoy watching your videos and I know this is an older video. I rebuild trailers like lowboys, flatbed, step deck, etc. Downhill with short circuit Meg does not get enough penetration for hitches. My go to is gas shielded flux core because the seismic wire has ductility and stretches a little bit. I have seen trailers inspected and they seem downhill welds on them put out of service. Again, I’m not criticizing your work. It looks good and I always believe in overdoing it, but I agree with the other person who said dual shielded, flux core or 7018 should’ve been used.
Please explain your thoughts on this? I have no issues with using short circuit mig in this case, I can easily weld within the machines parameters 3/8". the amount of weld is far beyond what is needed for strength. Thanks for watching and commenting

Overkill? Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing. I think you can put the trailers load at that point with no issues. Nice job.

Not a job for short circuit MIG. Gas shielded fluxcore or 7018 would be best.

@WoodNMetalWorkshop With mig, it is too easy to make a nice-looking weld that is structurally very weak.
