I'm a shop welder for my 9-5,my side gig is a bit of field welding. always level and square,it's the only constant to rely on-trying to teach a guy at work that, might as well be talking to a doorknob. great video on 'how it's done',mad respect!
I don't weld at all, but I have enjoyed watching your videos. I actually woodcraftsman and build custom cabinetry and one off fine furniture pieces. Ive been want to learn to do some simple welding so that I can start incorporating steel into some of my designs. Im finding welding is more involved than I thought, but I really want to learn more about this.
Excellent advice. My father taught me over 35 years ago to tack with 7018 when we were building doors for three 60 stall horse pens. I swear very few were the same width, we had to measure every single one of them. I dunno who built the stables but I'm not talking 3/4" or anything, more like 1"-8" difference in width and half of them had out of plumb walls. That was also one of the jobs that taught me to make saddle cuts with the torch so much so that I could do them with my eyes closed and freehand by the end of that job. I'm impressed that tongue was as square as it was from the factory! I'm pretty sure that around here they hire blind people with parkinsons to build trailers. Aside from amusement park rides they have some of the worst welds I've ever seen. They almost always seem to hold though. Except for spring hangers, those usually break pretty quick. Excellent job as always. Details like cutting off that lip and even spray painting it black shows you take pride in what you do and give a shit. I gotta go check out your merch. Have a great day
Nice job man, I hope you continue to create content and show us how it's done so whenever I do something similar I know most of the things. I know it's not easy filming and working from experience but I'm grateful for your channel and can't wait for more. thanks
Just starting out doing my own welding rig side hustle. It is great to watch your content and it is helping keeping me going when I don’t always have work.
We got a trailer back from my step fathers business that the coupler had been abused. Someone thought hammering on it would help get it on and off. I put some grease on it and presto. It works almost like new again except is a little bit harder from being beaten on. If your having trouble with your coupler please try and grease it before you get the hammer out 😂
As a new welder myself, I have to say for many of your jobs a magnetic Square tool would be awesome for you, plus their only 8-30 dollars so pretty cheap to try out.
Always enjoy watching you work, Anthony. With me being an amateur welder, thank you for all the tips and tricks and methods I learn from you. Love you Bro!
My boss has a guard on a wirewheel, but not on the cut off wheel, I get that it can get in the way, but all it takes is one bad wheel or movement . Stay safe
I have been fabricating for over 16 years. I'm going to add to your tool collection in your tool box . Must have! There called switch magnets. They help hold your work peace . And because of you I'm starting my on welding repair business. Just don't weld to close to them you get arc force do to the magnet
You ever try using the level on your phone? I've used it and its pretty accurate, but I wonder how it would compare to an actual device like you used, to compare the accuracy of the phone. In my experience, it is close enough but not good enough for exact precision, but it was a free app.
Well I am not a welder and would probably never try doing that trailer hitch conversion! Regardless Rockstar, I learned a bit about malleability and why when I do try to stick weld the tacks break when I try to move them because I don't use 7018ish or whatever rod is in the rod oven I bought at an auction🤦♂🤦♂😂😂 Keep that pedal to the floor and makin hay while the sun is shining!
I know it’s overkill, especially with 2 beads of professional weld on 3 sides. But is there a reason to weld or not weld the bottom other than it’s unnecessary?
oh man, i just pick myself up an optrel crystal 2.0 as well.... i was setting myself up for failure before with my shitty old helmet. this new one is the best one and within the first pass it was improved lol.
Ok. Im doing the same job for myself. I watch the dam video and get to the part i still have questions about and you end the video dammit. 😂😂 when you tighten the coupler channel down does it pinch the coupler tight? The shoulders on the bolts that came with my hitch are to long and prevent it from being tight to the hitch.
Guy wanted a new coupler to make it easier to connect/disconnect his trailer but still bought the 💩 coupler he had in the 1st place when he should have bought a EZ lock 😂😂
Man, im 31 and just started welding school. Luckily i live in Scotland and i get paid for going to school 🤣 I'll still have to get an apprenticeship at the end for a few years though. Still, im fucking loving it so far. I definitely hope i get an apprenticeship in a fabrication shop though cus fuck sitting on a pipeline all day.
*Oh, she purty, lol. You're starting to get those trailer tonge repairs down to a science. Some of those "less precise" trailers come from the factory a degree or two off 90 degrees to the axles.*
Does anyone like that Optrel Crystal 2.0? I MIG and recently bought a TIG welder, and run a Lincoln 3350 helmet, but thinking on trying a Optrel Crystal 2.0 since they have good reviews.
Just get a passive hood with a 2x4 1/4 “ lens window. Then u can try different filter lenses till u find one you like. Literally no reason to use a big expensive auto hood unless u have no idea what ur doing and like arc flash lol
@@MeltinMetalAnthony thank you, and thanks for the best stick welding instruction on UA-cam! Each of your video’s are a great lesson, especially for us hobby guys!
@@silverstreamweldingltd471, welding is just a hobby, and I’m frequently working in low light conditions. Evidently I’m not a pro like you, so in the words of Anthony, FO!
Way to picky way to picky, I’m very sure of it, the people using the trailer will have it bent within the first few days of use, but you done a very nice job, thanks
The “Go f*ck yourself” gets me every time! Way too funny lmao. Keep up the great work!
Gonna have to start doing that in my videos 😂
that caused me to sub..... here i am. lol

Yep, some people don’t realise taking the time to get something square and level to use as a datum makes everything else easier

You Nailed it, Brother👍👍

I have been doing alot of that repair. But my customer wanted to use pintle rings instead of ball coupler
I learned a lot watching and listening to you explain what and why you were approaching this job the way you did.
Thank you for the helpful video!
Glad it was helpful!
@@MeltinMetalAnthony it really was. Thank you again!
I like to use a file to clean the end off my 7018 gets that arc started nicely

loved this bro. that outro was great. thanks for the new option. i dinged up my own trailer coupler and didnt want to overhead weld while laying down.

Haha cool I just had to do something like this for a customer replacing the coupler with an adjustable
Tidy job young man!
Oughta recommend a Demco EZ latch. They’re awesome couplers

Literally got the notification and my UA-cam homepage went straight to it I’m not complaining I love the videos
Thanks brother!
That was good.. Keep them coming man. Thanks for what you do!
Thanks, will do!
Man, a MIG machine would be so much less hassle and time for these kind of jobs. You’d profit more.
Im pretty sure you have a magnet as a extra hand
Done a few of these myself. We did them completely differently, but will get the same result 👍 nice work as always brother
Thanks 👍
I know it’s overkill, especially with 2 beads of professional weld on 3 sides. But is there a reason to weld or not weld the bottom other than it’s unnecessary?
I did weld the bottom. But there is a large gap in the middle from the c channel. I could triangulate it but not necessary
Brother, if you can run a 7018 uphill and fill that gap ? YOU ARE A BADASS welder 👨🏭🤩🔥
Have you ever had to weld the triangle piece of top of the tongue?
Great content 👍
Thank you 🙌
Lmfaoo I was like Anthony is being a little too nice in the video seems odd but then the go “fuck your self” kicked in and I said thank god!!
Slick beads old boy
pretty slick
Nice I’m working on the shirt side jobs keep coming
How come you didn't do the overhead weld G ?

does welding that hitch steel lose any durability from heating it up
I wouldn’t think so but I technically don’t know
