190th like here. Shame on there only being this many of us out of 21,027 people. This man should have been bigger than James Brown. Him and Nolan Strong should have fostered music in this country. Maybe we'd be in a better place. RIP Nathaniel...
This is so kickass that I don't know where to begin. Adding to this great mans talent are the talent of Pure Gold. This cat could dance too!! Franks czuri was still with Pure Gold when this was recorded, another great singer.
Yes, my very favorite all time record. I will never forget the first time I heard this in 1962,gave me chills then, still does today. The back up singers do great job wih that wonderful deep bass harmony heard in the original recording. Nathaiel Maysr is looking good too.
Uncle Nay doing his Thang. I can remember working on new music with him and how particular was about the songs. He was a joy and fireball at the same time. You are missed Unc RIP. Your nephew Q Harper
I only heard this song two years ago, thanks to PBS for having him on. I'm shocked this wasn't a huge hit, I fell in love with him and his music the first time I heard it and am sorry that he has passed. He obviously enjoyed performing as much as the audience enjoyed watching him.
tgifa5 Village of Love was a Top 10 hit in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. It hit number 1 in Detroit. It made the national Billboard charts (R&B number 16, pop/Hot 100 - number 22). It stayed on the national Cash Box R&B charts for 15 weeks and went to number 10 on that national chart. I am the son of Nathaniel Mayer, so i know how well his record done. Village of Love has sold over a million copies since it's release from 1962.
although nolan strong and the diablos did this as well, Nathaniel is the man...always wanted to see him doing this live...thank you for putting this up.
Always did like this record out of 1962. Agree with a previous comment, should have been a bigger hit nationally. Larry N. Boyington, aka Larry Neal, former curator of the Wax Museum on the big 1520 KOMA
Nate Dogg I love Nate it stay right across the hall from me and I didn't even know who the hell he was we partied every day and every night rip Nate Dogg you are greatly missed
Good to hear from you, I'll get in touch with you this weekend yeah, he was a good friend OH, every time I think about him I just smile and laugh, thanks for contacting me
I recognize the large backup singer at far right from the OBS shiws. Wish Louvain Demps was up there also as she’s only one up there ever rubbed elbows with Nathaniel.
I was a 16 y/o kid sitting for 6 months in jail at 1300 Beaubien Blvd when this record hit the airwaves in the early '60s. It was a popular local hit. Back then Nate went for a bad azz and wasn't that well liked. Arthur Hughes was a big pimp back then and wanted to hurt Nate for some reason...lol, can't remember why anymore. That was before Detroit became the murder capital of the country and was a wonderful place to live.🙂
Well, no disrespect for the artist, Nate wss great. Its ALSO the production of the Fortune Records team. Starting with the Browns and their unique sightly "off mike" empty space effect on most of the Fortune records. Fortune was THE Detroit R&B powerhouse Before the much later Barry Gordy crowd. Brilliant production and engineering supported the Fortune roster of amazing talent. listen to The Swans or The Diablos or Andre Williams orJoe Weaver or the Five Dollars.....or back to Nate what a Super label with a super history of Greats.....
I miss this man everyday. He helped make me into the man I am today. RIP grandaddy Nate

Tremendous talent
Anyone notice the similarities between Bobby Smiths dance moves on “(Could it be) I’m Falling in Love?” and Mr Mayer on here?
Loads of fun.
