I will not be able to express what this song makes me feel but hearing it in this soft, soulful version instead of the normal version which feels rather harsh and apocalyptic is a whole new sensation, it’s like getting to know a completely new side of a person you’ve known for years. Indescribable.
@Juli that’s exactly how I felt! This has always been a favourite 1975 song of mine, and hearing this version transports you to a totally new place. I love them both so much and both hit in different ways.
What I really appreciate about The 1975 is Matty sings with emotions and you feel it too as you listen. They are one of the few artists who never shy away from raising their thoughts about society and social issues in their lyrics. They break the stereotypes and that's what makes them different. Love the band ❤️
i don't care about fame but getting to the level of success of being able to jam like this in a big studio space with friends and likeminded musicians is the dream
I recently discovered the 1975, I cant believe how much good music ive missed out on. Every day I have a new favorite song. Thank you for giving us such beautiful art.
me too! i listened to a couple songs off of bfiafl when it came out but i only recently really got into their music, can never get enough! going to see them in november :))
@@lunasimssI just saw them live again on the 15th. it was my 6th time. how'd you like it?! the first time seeing them live is always something special. they do a good job of playing several tracks from each album too.
What I love most about this is it really encapsulates the irony and natural contrast of The 1975. The heavily altered vocals backed by an acoustic string band, the constant happy songs with sad lyrics. The intimacy, and the commentary. I love these guys
They are just so good. It's like someone wrapped all the best bits of Sigur Ros, Bon Iver with a sprinkling of Bruce Springsteen in one glorious musical place.
I’ll never forget seeing my favorite band a fourth time when out of nowhere Matty gets on the roof and the boys play this song, this way. Needless to say, this song meant something new and beautiful in ways that only left tears in the moment. ❤
I've heard it once live and it was like a surprise I wasn't prepared to hear this song on a summer festival. Matty just sat there on a chair and was almost crying he couldn't sing and I was screaming my lungs out I've never felt this amount of emotions on a full concert and yet this was a small summer festival... He's just so unbelievable
It’s late and I’m tired so this may not be the most eloquent, but I’ll try and explain what I take it to mean :) I think it has a double meaning. Designers are people who make and create, but it can also mean people who plot things out. The first meaning is that The 1975 are designers/artists (“I’m a designer”) and the music they create has united people who feel left out or left behind by society (“unite pariahs”), and it’s helped them feel better. The second meaning to me is darker - there are many hate groups online made of people who consider themselves to be outcasts. The line could be from the perspective of a someone who has plotted plans out online and brought together people with the same ideologies, like incels (which feels very fitting for a song about the gun violence in the US). I’d be interested in hearing what other people think though!!
Ohmygod this song 😭😭 Im adoring all these performances from the studio, they just feel so sincere and its beautiful. itd be nice if they did If I Believe You as well 🥺
Every. Single. Song. Of theirs gives me goosebumps. ESPECIALLY this version. I haven’t been obsessed with a band like I am with The 1975, since 2003-04. I press play on the first song on their self titled album and let it play through every one of their albums. It gets me through the day. Keep it up guys!
This is so awesome. I genuinely don’t hear people talk about this song enough these days, feels like it got left behind a little in the pre-pandemic days. Which is a real shame, because it was always one of the best tracks off of A Brief Inquiry. I really, really love this version. Can’t wait for the new album!
he played this at the first show of the bfiafl tour and I was so lucky to be there. they way everyone screamed when he sang the first line cause NO ONE was expecting it, it was amazing.
I like America and America likes me is what got me into this band originally, which catapulted them into my favorite band. This version truly means a lot. The boys do it again
that shot where he grabs the water instead of the wine... maybe I'm looking into it too much, maybe I'm projecting, maybe it was gin, but it echoed, beautifully, the sobering message of this song, to me.
@Chase_AM omfg you're right 😂😂 I'm sad my musings are irrelevant but I had forgotten all about this video. Thanks for saying something, I fucking love this song ❤
If this song wasn't your favorite before, now you just don't have a chance.💥💯 This intro 'The phantom of the opera is there, inside my mind' was nice! Matty, you're incredible! Guys, you're dangerous!🔥
It is really cool to get a look into how the band puts something together like this. Matty is a natural band leader, and you can see it with how he directs the band throughout this video.
this song has grown on me every performance I see of it since the release. I didn't like it when the album came out, it just sounded so different than everything that they had previously released. now - I love every rendition I hear. it's amazing how every song, album, era of the 1975 will change and grow with you. I'm so thankful for them and the talent they continue to share with the world.
I want to dedicate this to my Wife, Aimee, that died nine years ago. She was so resolute and calm. I, on the other hand, was a mess. I guess we just acted brave, to impress each other.
I honestly love the addition of this man's poor voice being strained. It totally adds and rounds the song off. It makes it sound more raw and emotional.
@the1975 if you can hear me. . . I Live In New York City and I've lived here for 23 going on 24 years now. And I've been living in a Labyrinth. I was taken from my parents from birth by ACS and I was abused, locked in a basement for weeks on end, and locked in rooms days on end, had my hand burned, arm broken, beat almost everyday, and was barely feed. I'm now on my own journey through having to be judged everyday just for how I look. I do not know whom I am or what I have done to be going through a life of hell. This song out of every song I heard relates to my life to the T. I love you Matthew. My name is Andrew. I'm also English. Your music saved me. Have a good day.
Damn! The power, the emotion, the pain. Matty, you are simply amazing in so many ways and your music touches me to my core. Love to you all from Texas.
I’ve been in love with this band for almost 10 years. Somehow they keep making me love them even more each time I see something like this. The emotion behind his voice is so heartbreaking
The fact that Matty wanted to do one more song even though his voice was strained adds so much more to this live performance.
Ikr? A legend he is ❤
I do also think drinking and smoking doesn't help the voice
His job as a vocalist. Doesn't add much mate.
🙄
Are you joking?? He's so heavily autotuned this is anything but "live".
I will not be able to express what this song makes me feel but hearing it in this soft, soulful version instead of the normal version which feels rather harsh and apocalyptic is a whole new sensation, it’s like getting to know a completely new side of a person you’ve known for years. Indescribable.
It's not that deep he's just doing an acoustic version of a song.
@Juli that’s exactly how I felt! This has always been a favourite 1975 song of mine, and hearing this version transports you to a totally new place. I love them both so much and both hit in different ways.
😅😅😅😢🎉😢😅😢😢🎉😊😢🎉😢🎉🎉😮
@@ExploreWithEthan Do you not know how music works??
i love you
What I really appreciate about The 1975 is Matty sings with emotions and you feel it too as you listen. LOVE THIS
His pursuit towards truth and justice through his music is truly admirable, even if I don't agree with all his beliefs
Well said! Loved these boys since I first heard them. Hope they achieve the greatness they so richly deserve!! ❤
Absolutely he's one of a kind I love his lyrics a d the passion he gives x
We love The 1975 and they love us
i don't care about fame but getting to the level of success of being able to jam like this in a big studio space with friends and likeminded musicians is the dream
THIS IS THE COMMENT AND THE GOAL
They never fail to make you feel something
yep..pity
This is the most accurate comment about the 1975 I've ever seen
No words for how stunning this is....If anyone doubts these talents this will prove wrong...Such a honest performance
I recently discovered the 1975, I cant believe how much good music ive missed out on. Every day I have a new favorite song. Thank you for giving us such beautiful art.

How awesome to hear! Im seeing them in October! Enjoy the show :D@@lunasimss

Same! I’m a newer fan. I saw them in September and it was hands down one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.
What I love most about this is it really encapsulates the irony and natural contrast of The 1975. The heavily altered vocals backed by an acoustic string band, the constant happy songs with sad lyrics. The intimacy, and the commentary. I love these guys
This should be on every setlist until the day your vocal chords say otherwise
I'm in love with this spontaneous performance. I can't express what it made me feel. I missed this song so much ❤️
This was unexpected but I LOVE it. It's one of my favorite songs off abiior, and this arrangement brings it perfectly into the new era.
They are just so good. It's like someone wrapped all the best bits of Sigur Ros, Bon Iver with a sprinkling of Bruce Springsteen in one glorious musical place.
oh yes
You just mentioned all of my favourite musicians in one sentence! ❤
You articulated what I couldn’t
PUT THIS ON THE UPCOMING ALBUM AS A BONUS TRACK 😭
Its literally on a brief inquiry into online relationships.
@@MaddoggMikeTV not this arrangement
this song never ceases to give me chills. so strong. damn.
Such an underrated song
thats extremly subjective.
Well it did come out 45 minutes ago 😂
It was one of the first songs I heard of theirs. I love it. Special place in my heart
It was my number 1 played song on Apple Music last year
It was just uploaded, what do you want.
I was fortunate enough to experience this version of the song live at finsbury park last year. That memory will forever live rent free in my mind.
Love any piece of sound coming from these guys
This is as organic as it can get, no edits and all in real time. All the emotion and authenticity in that one take.
...organic...? So his voice always sounds like it is going through autotune?
@@eddiep2899 obviously a desired effect
@@eddiep2899 I meant the set up was organic in the sense it was almost impromptu but I agree not so much the singers voice.
can’t wait to be old and watch this shit back, i’ll probably cry
This is freaking beautiful- didn’t know I needed this until now
You guys should absolutely do more sessions like this, these have been great!
i keep listening and listening and listening to this... this version is angelic
This song is always emotional. This rendition took it to the next level
Just saw this performed at their show in KC last night. I went looking for it…and glad I found it. This was beautiful!
I’ll never forget seeing my favorite band a fourth time when out of nowhere Matty gets on the roof and the boys play this song, this way. Needless to say, this song meant something new and beautiful in ways that only left tears in the moment. ❤
I thought I would have grown out of this band
but I just grew along with them
---this band has been and stayed the soundtrack of my life
Second this
I've heard it once live and it was like a surprise I wasn't prepared to hear this song on a summer festival. “I’m a designer, unite pariahs” is one of the best lyrics of the last decade. This rules.
What does this lyric mean exactly? I’m lost and hoping for a great reply with how high of regard you have for it…
Replying cause I also wanna know

this guy just made high regard statement and then dipped
This was incredible! The 1975 is the greatest of all time. This can’t be changed.
Ohmygod this song 😭😭 Im adoring all these performances from the studio, they just feel so sincere and its beautiful. itd be nice if they did If I Believe You as well 🥺
I feel like this is the exact moment when he decided to sing this version on the roof in the current tour
Mattys voice is beautiful on this, so strong, so intense. A stunning performance from a superb band. 👏
The hoarseness and strain adds to the pain of this song. Masterpiece.
I'd never heard this 1975 song until now, but it's definitely my new favourite.
raw music its rare we need to keep and treasure this kind of band they deserved to be heard and recognize their art more..
When you don't just hear the song.

I did not want this to end

Chills. This sounds so brilliant through a slightly hoarse vocal and with all the studio noises left intact

Love this so much! So glad you guys are back with us!! We've missed you & are do excited for the new album!!
This is best live version of i like America gives an acoustic slowed feel defo still has the power in the voice
| GOD BLESS THE 1975 |
The way he queues Ross and George in is unreal, and then queues Jamie to play keys on his own then back in. Great dynamics. Great performance
I honestly love the addition of this man's poor voice being strained. It totally adds and rounds the song off. It makes it sound more raw and emotional.
Ladies and gentleman, the best band to ever exist. The 1975.
I lost my brother around the release of this song. Lyrics helped me a lot.
this is so touching. I wish they played this when I saw them live.
They seem so happy this era and just so in love with their music and it really shows
This is beautiful. One of my favorite tracks from the 2018 record being performed with a new arrangement during this era. Just perfect.
this is the most beautiful thing i’ve seen in a very long time
Wow. this just brought tears to my eyes. fkn hell
