This movie was the third and final film in the OSI (Office of Scientific Investigation) trilogy. It was okay but hampered by the wooden acting of Richard Egan and Constance Dowling. Only Hollywood heavyweight Herbert Marshall saves it. The other movies in the series were "Riders to the Stars" (the worst of the trio) and "The Magnetic Monster," the first and best, with Richard Carlson and King Donovan. That movie benefited from being able to repurpose an obscure but effective German science fiction film called "Gold" (1930). Oddly, Richard Carlson's character Jeff Stewart from "The Magnetic Monster" was not reprised in either of the sequels and, in fact, Carlson played a completely different character in "Riders to the Stars" (he went from strong leading man to sniveling coward). The success of his TV show "I Led Three Lives," along with "The Creature From the Black Lagoon" and his ill-fated directorial debut in "Riders to the Stars" kept him from filming "Gog," which was probably fortunate, though it also might have kept him from getting behind the camera.

The interesting thing is experiment at the start of the film is totally real. Scientists would freeze hamsters beyond the limit (all the water molecules in the body would be frozen) and put a hot spatula in its chest region to revive it again and it worked! You make some great points in this video that I can appreciate. When I was a wee lad watching the OG Star Trek, I loved the instrumentation and technology the most. It helped propel me into the engineering field. I noticed right away all the lights, buttons, switches, and almost NONE of them are ever labeled. I started noticing it in other scifi and I'm still noticing it even today. ALIEN, for example, is FILLED with pointless flashing lights and switches that would take years to memorize if they were actually important enough to exist. As for monkey ghosts, the ghost remains of millions of the Rhesus monkeys and lab rats, that needs to be explored. Thank you for mentioning those two painfully obvious factors in science fiction of this quality. I feel vindicated.
You are a great presenter. You know how to express complex emotional reactions to the scenes you are showing us. I would be very interested to see any acting you may have done.

What? Are the robots' names a reference to something?
@@explodingtomahawks7589 Seriously? I wonder about people's general knowledge these days
@@explodingtomahawks7589 To the holy texts of the abrahamic religions: Christianity, Islam and Judaism. Gog is the monarch of the kingdom of Magog. In the Apocalypse, it will fight against God's forces, creating a huge cataclysm.
@@davidromeroblaya7920 Owww, you just ruined the meaning, of the films name for me🤨. I can never look at it, the same way, ever again, lol☺️!!! I also did not know, it was a biblical reference.
The freezing thing actually happened in the 50's with hamsters. They had to invent the microwave to heat them up again. It worked on hamsters. Tom Scott has a video on it.
Gog is the best movie of 1954 !
Japan: Hold my Sake.
I feel vindicated.
oh, hi Mark!
One of these days, Mark is going to open up an episode with, "Welcome back THREE the show." and I'm gonna flip.
Finally something to make my bad day a bit better
I feel exactly the same way. 😢
You're killing it dude, the loud noise bit was great.
in the 50s it was more manly to shoot from the hip instead of actually aiming
More manly to get shot first, I guess
Everyone knows that shooting from the hip is more lethal, and more masculine.
@@ThatSockmonkey Masculinity has evolved since then, turning the firearm sideways has been proven to evoke twice as much.
Only pusses aim while shooting. Real men shoot from the hip.
@@illmsg77 Not for white manly men.
I love Mark's videos, they are always hilarious and comforting. I watch this show when I feel crappy and it's all good - keep going Mark! :)
It's not true, I did not hit that dislike button. I did not hit it! I did NUUUT!
You are a great presenter. You know how to express complex emotional reactions to the scenes you are showing us. I would be very interested to see any acting you may have done.
Overhead projectors were used in schools for a short while and the teacher somehow never knew how to use it.
Edit: they also didn't know how to use the wheely cart tv's vcr/dvd or remote so they would always call over a random student to get the machine to play the movie.
We used them during most of my childhood.
my schools used them my entire school career without an issue.
@@manlymcstud8588 I wouldn't say without an issue in our case... Sometimes the bulbs went and fuses etc. It allowed teachers to prepare material beforehand.
@@thursoberwick1948 sure, those things burned out. teachers would cart them to a spare classroom or, ahem, 'borrow' from a different teacher while waiting for maintenance to replace the bulb or fuse. seems all the schools i went to had a junk room stuffed with equipment with minor issues or not-in-use stuff....
@@manlymcstud8588 Yes, they had big rooms filled with that kit! Mark is right when he says old school equipment was bulky... The 1980s versions certainly were.
Dude, you really killed it with this one. The writing was excellent. We all struggle with that editing pass. Gotta ask ourselves the hard questions like, "What was I thinking?" and "Dude what was I on when I thought that was English?"
You know, the way GOG can follow complicated commands so well made me think it could be used remotely to carry out tasks too dangerous for humans... But, also the danger room full of electronic tuning forks helped me to understand how something like that could never be a thing.
It's the 50s, and there is no task too dangerous for a pack a day smoking, manly man! F--k robots, yo!
2:05 "The Freezer Geezer" from an episode of "The Simpsons. Man, I remember this one and "The Magnetic Monster" on the same bill at the local movie pali. Thanks, Mark.
1950s: "What if someone drops a nuclear bomb on us?"
2020s: "What if someone says something that someone somewhere interprets as racist on Twitter?"
What a ridiculous strawman statement that says way more about the OP than anyone else.
@@BlownMacTruck found the Twitter comment police.
@@StratumPress Er, what? You completely misunderstood my comment then.
Does this mean I can duck and cover again?
@@BlownMacTruck so we understand, the op's very rational reaction to and critique of the ridiculous state of affairs with cancle culture, which the vast majority of people share, is a strawman because why now?
My favorite classic sci-fi movie. Not Forbidden Planet, but Gog.
We need to freeze Mark and send him into the future !!!
This movie should be preserved because of its depiction of the Turing machine. I have never seen such a good example of the concept of early programming. Looks like either the makers of movies were passionate about computers or they did their research. I hope these people lived to see the early PCs.
How do your videos keep getting better and better?! You think the last new one is the greatest piece ever and then you just bamboozle us all and make a new one. Darn it Mark it’s hard to keep track. This is really getting to be a problem
This review is definitely a go-to, when I need a good laugh. Gets better with every viewing. Mark - you DE MAN!
I think the Nazi's looked into developing a giant city burning space mirror.
Scaramanga certainly did.
The germans.
We need to look into the connection between the elves and the nazis.
It was such a shitty monday for me until I saw Mark uploaded a new video. Love your content!!
I think it's hilarious that nuclear energy is basically steam power using radiation instead of fire.
I actually like this movie. True the title doesn't fit the movie plot but it's still a very entertaining movie.
Oh thank goodness finally more Mark
GOG...awesome flick Mark....😂🤣
This is my favorite page.. thank you...I love you do old movies.. please do Ben
50s had a lot of great sci-fi movies. This films name is mad. Great review Mark.
