One of my first albums...on cassette 😂 Kevin Max (long hair) has done a bunch of solo stuff along with one album as the vocalist for a band called Audio Adrenaline. That band that had a few different connections to DC Talk, including the original vocalist being Toby's brother-in-law for a time until an unfortunate divorce. Kevin has also released at least two books of poetry. Michael Tait fronted a rock band named Tait for a few years, releasing two albums, the latter of which included a satisfying cover of Electric Avenue. A short while later, he started touring with a band called Newsboys (another band from the same era as Audio A and DC Talk), standing in as vocalist on the road while Peter Furler would do vocals for the records. After a short time of that, Peter decided to step away from the band and Michael became the full-time front man, where he has remained. In 2019, Peter and Phil Joel, a former bassist/vocalist rejoined them for the album "United" and the supporting tour. Really nice getting to hear them share the vocals. And if you really want a trip into the strange, check out the title song from DC Talk's previous album Nu Thang. I simultaneously geek out and cringe listening to that album now. Jars of Clay- Flood is a great song! Christian rock is not widely accepted in some churches but for us "Rebels for Christ", a group I tried to start lol, it was a way to express our love for Christ.

I remember the evening we were driving and my wife introduced me to this song and then from there I was introduced to a lot of Christian rock, metal, alternative, and even some Christian hip-hop. This is just one of those songs that is so infectious it just stays in your head and it is so of its time but yet so timeless. There are so many facets of DC Talk that are fascinating and compelling. I love that they have never been afraid to explore different genres to get their message across and they do it so effortlessly but with a lot of passion and heart and their performances and in their delivery. Great reaction and of course appreciation for one of the most versatile and awesome artists in the Christian music scene.

They broke up around 2000 to each pursue their own solo careers, but remained friends and do reunion tours from time to time. TobyMac probably is the most successful since they went solo. You need to check out his last 10 year of music. Really good! Michael Tait had a short, but good run as a solo, but went on to be the lead singer of Newsboys. Another successful Christian band with music you should check out. Kevin Max had a short solo run that faded and haven't heard a lot from in the last 15+ years. They were a Christian music behemoth with lots of great songs that cross into rap, pop and folk genres.

There is actually a video from The arsenio Hall show in the early 90s where DC talk did a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with a song called Free At Last. It's one of my absolute favorite songs. I had a really rough time in my twenties. I moved to a lot of different places and got into a free bad situations. I ended up living in a homeless shelter for a few months. I had lost everything I owned a couple of different times exceptor the cassette of DC talk Free At Last album that has this song on it. I honestly think that I could not survive my twenties without that connection to God. Even though I wasn't reaching out to him at that time, he was reaching out to me through DC Talk's music. So happy to see this reaction. It didn't bring back bad memories, it brought back thankfulness to Jesus for not giving up on me!
And yes, coming through with the vocals. That's Kevin Max, who is my favorite member of the group. I love his voice. It's just so unique. You know Toby Mac. Michael Tait is the other member. DC Talk is my favorite group of all time across any genre. This song and video were released in 1992 off the album 'Free At Last'. So we're early 1990's here. As time passed, their sound evolved. Some other great ones off this album are 'Luv is a Verb', 'Say The Words', 'Socially Acceptable', and their version of 'Lean On Me'. There's also some fun, short things they throw into the album. Usually under a minute long. My absolute favorite song of theirs is 'Consume Me', which is off their album, 'Supernatural' (1998). (Depending on my mood, it is my favorite album of theirs. This remake came out in 1992. They have been doing Jesus Freak Cruises. Their first one was in 2017 and then another one in 2019. TobyMac has his own label (Gotee Records), and he signs a lot of new artists. Michael Tait is the Lead Singer for Newsboys, but they just did a reunion tour, as well. Kevin Maxx was singing with Audio Adrenaline, but he is trying to get back out there. Kevin Max is an amazing poet, and he has written poetry books. All of them are gifted by God in so many ways.

I also met them at a Christian bookstore and Michael Tait ( the African American gentleman) was, well, a gentleman and really took the time to talk and engage with me. Really kind of influenced my taste in my first boyfriend which as a Caucasian lady in the south was an interesting path but my first BF was really sweet. Zero regrets. If you like this song then you should watch the live version when they were on Jay Leno in 1993, and at the Dove Awards in 1994. There is also a live version from the "Free at Last" Tour that is hidden on the Jesus Freak Single, which came out prior to the Jesus Freak Album in 1995. Then there is also a live version on the "Welcome to the Freakshow" Tour album. They also have two remix versions on a remix album with a "Luv is a Verb," and "The Hardway" remix. The album version is good, but all of the live versions are even better. "Jesus is Just Allright" was originally a Doobie Brothers song from the 1970's with just the chorus. Toby McKeehan wrong the lyrics to the three verses, which is a part of the DCTalk version. Because of copyright laws they had to keep the word "Just" in the title even though they use the word "Still" in their version. This song by DCTalk came out in 1992 with the "Free at Last" Album. This is one of their best known songs. The other two members of DCTalk are Michael Tait and Kevin Smith. Now the three of them are known as TobyMac, Tait, and Kmax or Kevin Max. However, who they really are is from their DCTalk days. They broke up in 2000, and each of them put out a solo album within months of each other in 2001. They went on Tour in 2002 doing their best known DCTalk songs (basically all the songs on their Greatest Hits Album called "Intermission.") The one song on that album they didn't perform was "Socially Acceptable," and the one song they did perform which was not on that album was "Day by Day." Then they three of them each performed a solo set of 4 or 5 songs. Obviously their solo career were not just an "Intermission" because they never did get back together. I still listen to DCTalk songs today. They never should have broken up.

It was 1992. TobyMac and Michael Tait started the group and then Kevin Max came in.One thing DC talk did the Christian music in the early nineties was bring rap andhip hop. They were the first to succeed in that. Now TobyMac owns his own record label and has done a lot for Christian music as you know from some of your reactions. There is actually a video from The arsenio Hall show in the early 90s where DC talk did a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr with a song called Free At Last. It's one of my absolute favorite songs. I had a really rough time in my twenties. I moved to a lot of different places and got into a free bad situations. I ended up living in a homeless shelter for a few months. I had lost everything I owned a couple of different times exceptor the cassette of DC talk Free At Last album that has this song on it. I honestly think that I could not survive my twenties without that connection to God. Even though I wasn't reaching out to him at that time, he was reaching out to me through DC Talk's music. So happy to see this reaction. It didn't bring back bad memories, it brought back thankfulness to Jesus for not giving up on me!
And yes, coming through with the vocals. That's Kevin Max, who is my favorite member of the group. I love his voice. It's just so unique. You know Toby Mac. Michael Tait is the other member. He's amazing, too. I believe he is still the lead singer for the Newsboys, also a very good group.
They have recorded a couple of songs together since parting ways. 'Atmosphere' is off one of Toby Mac's albums. And they recorded 'Let's Roll' for a special 9/11 tribute album. It's pretty amazing, too.
Growing up I listened to: DC Talk, Newsboys, Audio Adrenaline, and Supertones.
Later DC Talk split and released solo albums. Toby Mac went on to to stay a solo artist. Michael Tait later became the lead singer for Newsboys. Kevin Max became the lead singer for Audio Adrenaline.
There were a couple of reunions: at the Dove awards and a DC Talk cruise.

Yessss! That was from 92 I believe but their music in the 90's was great! Saw them at a Christian conference in D.C. in 91. But most of them are all still making music today.

DC Talk is my favorite group of all time across any genre.
This song and video were released in 1992 off the album 'Free At Last'. So we're early 1990's here. As time passed, their sound evolved. Some other great ones off this album are 'Luv is a Verb', 'Say The Words', 'Socially Acceptable', and their version of 'Lean On Me'. There's also some fun, short things they throw into the album. Usually under a minute long.
My absolute favorite song of theirs is 'Consume Me', which is off their album, 'Supernatural' (1998). (Depending on my mood, it is my favorite album of theirs. The other favorite is 'Jesus Freak'.) The official video they released for 'Consume Me' does not, sadly, contain the whole song. I don't know why. But here is a lyric video. I would love if you would react to the song, please.

This remake came out in 1992. They have been doing Jesus Freak Cruises. Their first one was in 2017 and then another one in 2019. TobyMac has his own label (Gotee Records), and he signs a lot of new artists. Michael Tait is the Lead Singer for Newsboys, but they just did a reunion tour, as well. Kevin Maxx was singing with Audio Adrenaline, but he is trying to get back out there. Kevin Max is an amazing poet, and he has written poetry books. All of them are gifted by God in so many ways.
this was early 90s. I remember it was one of the few groups my aunt would let me listen to whenever I visited her. It basically made christian music cool.

Oh shoot! I almost forgot about this. I am about to age myself but I saw them play a concert at Six Flags over Texas in Arlington when I was in high school. I also met them at a Christian bookstore and Michael Tait ( the African American gentleman) was, well, a gentleman and really took the time to talk and engage with me. Really kind of influenced my taste in my first boyfriend which as a Caucasian lady in the south was an interesting path but my first BF was really sweet. Zero regrets. This song was released in 1992. DC Talk was a group started by Toby Mac and two other black gentlemen. (Who's names I do not remember.) I love their music. Suggestions from DC Talk music: Love is a Verb and Say the Word.
If you like this song then you should watch the live version when they were on Jay Leno in 1993, and at the Dove Awards in 1994. There is also a live version from the "Free at Last" Tour that is hidden on the Jesus Freak Single, which came out prior to the Jesus Freak Album in 1995. Then there is also a live version on the "Welcome to the Freakshow" Tour album. They also have two remix versions on a remix album with a "Luv is a Verb," and "The Hardway" remix. The album version is good, but all of the live versions are even better. "Jesus is Just Allright" was originally a Doobie Brothers song from the 1970's with just the chorus. Toby McKeehan wrong the lyrics to the three verses, which is a part of the DCTalk version. Because of copyright laws they had to keep the word "Just" in the title even though they use the word "Still" in their version. This song by DCTalk came out in 1992 with the "Free at Last" Album. This is one of their best known songs. The other two members of DCTalk are Michael Tait and Kevin Smith. Now the three of them are known as TobyMac, Tait, and Kmax or Kevin Max. However, who they really are is from their DCTalk days. They broke up in 2000, and each of them put out a solo album within months of each other in 2001. They went on Tour in 2002 doing their best known DCTalk songs (basically all the songs on their Greatest Hits Album called "Intermission.") The one song on that album they didn't perform was "Socially Acceptable," and the one song they did perform which was not on that album was "Day by Day." Then they three of them each performed a solo set of 4 or 5 songs. Obviously their solo career were not just an "Intermission" because they never did get back together. I still listen to DCTalk songs today. They never should have broken up.
