Very informative. One reason I keep going back to Omega boar brushes is the soft scrubby feel. You get more lather maybe from my silver tips, but I just like the exfoliation of the quality boar brushes. We have such great variety to choose from. Took me many purchased to really settle with the fact that it's more about preference than material.
I love the vintage old-timey video clips you add to your videos. great video as always. it's been a 3 years since i first discovered your videos and it's high time to get a new badger brush. the one i have is still my first badger, and it's on the small size.
I remember watching this video 3 1/2 years ago before I had any brushes... now look at be. Practically a traditional wet shaving expert and vast knowledge about brushes, razors, Vintage, Vintage Gillette’s, Date Codes, different knots, you name it! It all started here along with GeoFatboy, KenSurfs, KevyShaves, And PaulHFilms videos!!! 💈😁👍🏻💈 ~Mike 🌹
I purchased an Edwin Jagger synthetic silvertip brush and have thus far not been disappointed. I read recently that the demand for badger is now close to or surpassed the supply & some of the more reputable companies are making an effort to produce higher quality synthetics. EJ is a great brush, but I have also read many great reviews for Mulhe synthetics too.
I've now watched far too many of your videos for one day. They're all excellent. Thank you. I just purchased my first DE safety razor--the Merkur 38C HD, along with a sample pack of blades and some Proraso. Can't wait to actually get a real shave. Keep up the good work.
I have enjoyed your videos, and just gave myself an early Christmas present, a Van Der Hagen shave set, including bore brush, stand and shave soap puck and bowl. I plan to try them with my new Merkur classic 1906 safety razor. I started with safety razors after viewing the Micro touch one commercial and buying one at Walgreens. The shave was far closer then my good news disposables that I grew up on. I plan to view more of your videos for tips on shaving as I want the best possible experience.
another great video mantic thanks for getting me started on wet shaving, since watching your videos ive learned the right way to shave i no longer have a neck full of ingrowns and i cant wait for my next shave looking forward to next video until then thanks for everything.
Hello Mantic, Thank you for your great videos. I have 2 questions for you. 1) Have you ever tried the HJM synthetic "BLACK FIBRE" brush? 2) Have you ever tried the Frank Shaving Badger brushes? Thank you again!
Thanks for the video.Ur helping wives like me. God! I never thought it will get so tricky to arrange a shaving bouquet for my husband. Please do review on horse hair though, cos its easy to get one in my country.
Is there any specific way I should save so my beard gets bigger faster?I wanna do more and more complex designs. Also can you show any beard styles? Thanks
I asked this on your Facebook, but just in case you dont check that, what do think about using this cream with a badger brush? Its all natural and I've been using it for a while now but it needs a brush to lather it. Hi just watched your vid on the brushes. Was wondering if you thought this shaving cream I have been using for a few months now is safe for badger hair brushes.
I have this brush its fairly new. I have the problem of bristles falling out when I lather up my shaving cream. Will this problem stop after I use it more? It wasnt that cheap the brand is Grutti
@@amirhoseinsari5417 Yeah exactly 💯 best opt for synthetic brushes and if they want best opt for Silvertip brushes. As, to why silvertip? It is high premium grade synthetic brushes and for those who are looking for that high quality synthetic brushes. Also, as well as they don't fall out
Very good. You're the reason I started shaving like a man. :0) I can't seem to find your video on shaving lathers/creams do you still have one? Over the last year I've really had a hard time finding a cream I'd like to stick with. Not that I mind changing them up once in a while but I'd like find a single cream that is my standard. Thanks for y our videos.
How do the horse hair brushes perform compared to the badger and boar hair ones? And what was the deal with the anthrax scare? I've heard synthetic brushes have really improved in recent years. And I suppose, while I'm not thrilled by the idea that a badger has to die so I can have a decent shaving brush, if the Chinese are killing them anyway, at least they're being put to good use. Are they really that bad of a pest species there? Or do they just want the money?
Hey, I just wanted to know if you could list some creams that nwould NOT damage a badger brush. I haven't gotten my brush quite yet, but wanted to knownif Barbersol brand cream is safe. Thank you
Sam Van Oss Hey, I know this is an old post, but typically any cream like a Barbasol or a gel will damage the hair. Inexpensive items to try would be something like Williams or vanderhaagen shave soap which you can find almost anywhere, or, if you have a bath and body works near you check out the C.O. Bigelow shaving cream. It comes in a green tube and is actually made by Proraso! It's great stuff and a good size tube will only set you back about 10 bucks! Best shaves to you!
I think it's fantastic that he points out that boar and badgers are killed to make these brushes, I know any vegan wet shaving would realize this but maybe a few will be saved now that people realize there is an alternative.
Jonathan Herman when hair or skin is used it's as a way to make money off unused parts . for example you can outlaw leather and it wouldn't stop any slaughter house. it would just mean more waste.
Okay, thanks for the advice :) I hear lots of good things about Shavemac; that they are the cream of the crop when it comes to shave brushes. I've been using a Vulfix Super Badger for about a year now, and want to see how good a silvertip is :) Since Omega is middle of the road, I'm thinking I'll splurge on a Shavemac instead.
my 29mm Simpson T3 Trafalgar is the best brush on the market today it's like buying a $200 badger hair brush, no cleaning the brush, no need for a brush stand, fast drying time, well not fall apart like a badger hair can, cheap to buy, i have owned it for 5 years with know problems wheelchair Larry
I bought an Indian made horse hair brush. How about a review of horse hair. I used it for the 1st time today. It is more aromatic than my best badger hair.
Jim Chavez yes, horse hair brushes can be quite smelly at first! Try giving it a good lathering with pet shampoo and rinsing very thoroughly. The smell will go away with use. I have a couple Vie Long horse hair shave brushes and they work pretty well, somewhere between boar and badger.
***** I am trying Tea Tree shampoo on it (it always worked for my horse). Can you do a review of some horse hair brushes you have encountered. I paid under $5.00 for mine. I had low expectations for its functionality. It lathered fine though.
All I'm using are the brushes that came in my Van der Hagen sets because it's what I can afford. Might be boar, might be synthetic. Didn't see anything on the label. What I think I'm gonna do eventually is find badger knots and turn my own handles out of wood. That and restore a few flea market finds.
Thanks for mentioning the cruelty involved in harvesting boar and badger hair. I bought an Omega Syntex for that reason. Badgers are cool so how's about we let them keep their fur on their bodies.
aww gimme a break you don't need to pull it out like that . its not like we need the absolute root of the hair to make a knot and we never come in contact with it. you can trim the hair and never cause the slightest injury or pain.

7 minutes packed with great information. Fantastic job.

I cracked up at the picture of synthetic brush manufacturing at 2:53
Thanks mantic that cleared up a lot for me - I thought 'pure' was one of the best! Looking forward to upgrading to super eventually.
I appreciate the time you spend with these videos and your objective review process.
Thank you

An excellent presentation. I thoroughly enjoyed your knowledgeable clip.
Excellent video as always. You taught me everything I know about shaving with a safety razor. I actually enjoy shaving now! Thank you for that.

Thank you for clarifying the difference between the brushes 👍
for me the most important quality in a brush is that the bristles don't fall out.
For natural hairs is normal, so for you the greatest option is synthetic
@@amirhoseinsari5417 Yeah exactly 💯 best opt for synthetic brushes and if they want best opt for Silvertip brushes. As, to why silvertip? It is high premium grade synthetic brushes and for those who are looking for that high quality synthetic brushes. Also, as well as they don't fall out
Frank Shaving produces a wide range of brushes for a very reasonable cost. I bought a Silvertip Badger brush with a plastic handle for $30.
I had one of Omega's brush. It's great tool. I prefer it over Kozłowski silvertip.
All of my badger brushes are 50+ years old. Just goes to show that taking care of your brush is worth it in the long run.
A good high quality brush depends on the pricing. I believe it can last long like you just stated

Do you have much experience with the Omega brand (from Bologna, Italy)
Would you consider them to be good manufacturers of brushes?

Awesome info for us newbies, thanks, it really explains a lot.
Nice Hitchcockian director's cameo at 4:50 mate!
Hello guys. Today I used my badger brush to foam up my facial cleanser (wow..felt like a luxury cleanser after the foaming..) Is this a bad idea?
dang I think I got the pure badger brush... i could def tell it looks coarse and they def bleached it
Very good presentation.
That was great, thank you! ❤️🙌👌👍
I've been looking for a shaving brush but have had trouble finding the loft, knot, height measurements for any brush. Where can I find these?
What is the make and model of the silvertip brush at 4:55?
Excellent, informative video.
Thank you for this video!

congrats on 10 000 subs
What kind of Silvertip is that?
How do I select a cream or soap bar?

Buy a synthetic brush no dead animals
Jd Smithe
Nope
I love my boar hair brush. And knowing that it fed someone.
Okay, thanks for the advice :)

Jim Chavez Thanks for the heads-up on the horse hair brushes (and deodorising technique!).
useful 👍
I also decided, to buy a synthetic brush.)

SongDog7 did you start making your own handles ?
Touché. I should really get rid of it
What type is least irritating to the skin?
None of them should irritate the skin, but a synthetic brush is least likely to cause a reaction.
very good
nice one mantic
Thanks for mentioning the cruelty involved in harvesting boar and badger hair. I bought an Omega Syntex for that reason. Badgers are cool so how's about we let them keep their fur on their bodies.
Crap. I drove away with the speaker attached to my window!
I'll probably never treat myself to this type of shaving, but it sure is interesting!
You can't beat a Simogue Boar 1305
I tried to link the cream but since I cant here are the ingrediants
Ingredients: water, helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, stearic acid, glycerin, cocos nucifera (coconut) oil, silica, sodium borate, glucose, cetyl alcohol, citrus aurantium bergamia (bergamot) fruit oil, citrus medica limonum (lemon) peel oil, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) peel oil, pogostemon cablin (patchouli) oil, citrus reticulata (tangerine/petitgrain)
can I just use my pet badger?
I use a pet snake
I have read the hair for horse hair brushes comes from grooming the horse
So the horse does not get killed.
Cool
Badgers?! We don't need no stinkin' badgers!
dam i can only click like once!
yes but you have some kind of UFC picture as your avatar, so...
@PaparoniFilms Honey Badger don't care :)
Real men use Honey Badger Brushes
I just use my cat.
you know, i don't get this industry. why the fuck would you have to kill the animal if you only need its hair?!
aww gimme a break you don't need to pull it out like that . its not like we need the absolute root of the hair to make a knot and we never come in contact with it. you can trim the hair and never cause the slightest injury or pain.
I can't believe a 7 min video was necessary for a very mundane topic. You don't even need a brush
haha, i use a brush for cleaning my face and im a girl!!!!!! btw, i use a makeup brush.
