Tbh while I enjoyed the new Standalone, I was also a bit disappointed (but I have a full review planned, so thoughts are coming) I think anyone would jam with R&R (that’s a joke of course but I do think if you have a similar taste to me you will ☺️)
Do you recommend listening to the Mask of Mirrors Audiobook? I have the entire trilogy and I think I will love it but so many people recommend the audiobook so I'm curious about your opinion. Anne Bishop is an auto buy author for me as well. The first series I read of hers was The Others Series and the sequel series to that. Absolutely loved it. I also read the first 3 books in The Black Jewels series thinking it was complete back in 2018. So imagine my surprise when I found there are 12 books now. I'm gonna need to reread the first 3 books again in order to continue with the series. This year I read Kushiel's Dart and gave it 5 stars. Just been waiting months for the audiobook to come in from the library so I can continue my immersive read of the series. I purchased all the books in the series, so I got all 9 books.
Tbh I’m not sure on the audiobook bc I hardly ever listen to any (and didn’t with this one as well 😅) I actually think you don’t necessarily have to reread the first trilogy in the Black Jewels bc Anne Bishop is one of those authors who mentions the important parts that happened a lot in the later books. Also while r do follow mostly the same characters the story from books 1-3 is over. Book 4 is a short story collection (some about the characters past, one that’s set between books 2&3 and one that deals with the aftermath of book 3), books 5,7 and 8 follow mostly new characters (with book 5 being a kind of prequel to 7 and 8. Book 6 is a one of spin off story. 9 is another collection and 10-12 is a new trilogy about 100+ years after the first three books 😊 I hope you get the kushiel audio soon 🥰
@VoyageThroughWorlds Oh, thank you so much. I'm glad I don't have to reread the trilogy since it's pretty heavy and emotionally draining at times. I actually got the Kushiel audiobook today and am so excited to start reading it after work.
Great list Sarah!
How did you like Lyon's new standalone? I do recommended ML Wang's new standalone, and do you think I'd jam with Roke and Rose?
