    Ive been catching a ball off the wall with my glove for years, and I’ve always used a racquet ball. It goes off the wall extremely fast and I’ve always felt it helped because of the faster speed and I’ve also been able to catch it in the pocket better.

    Thank You, Maria! The only thing I can add: when I train a catching glove or blocker I always wear a helmet. Training results are much better)

    Thank you for this video. I started being a goalie last year at the age of 41. I am currently being trained by a local hockey team, these skills are very easy to understand and will be starting them tomorrow. Again thank you very much.

    Honestly never thought about the part about catching balls off the wall with bare hands makes you more susceptible to pucks bouncing off your glove because you're trying to catch the puck with your palm instead of in the pocket. Like you said I recently noticed I wasn't catching pucks as often and giving up rebounds cause they'd just bounce off or fall out cause I wasn't squeezing my glove properly. I'm definitely going to start catching with my glove on more often than before and also get some lacrosse balls (because I've already got like a million tennis balls laying around lol) and the Catch Ball. Thank you for the awesome videos and tips!

      My pleasure to help - I know it is so different when you start using your glove. If you end up getting the Catch Ball, don't get frustrated with it - it feels like it is impossible when you start out, but then it gets better and better and that is exciting. I think we are both going to be making a lot more glove saves this year :)

    Is it OK if I juggle it against the wall with racquet balls when I'm starting off?

    Does it make sense to do these drills as a player too?

      Not sure you need to practice the catching drills as much - but the eye movement drills for sure - not a bad idea.

    Do you have camps. Recommend any

      I run a few training camps for goalies in my programs. In terms of goalie camps, I think Eli Wilson does an AMAZING job in Canada and Stop It Goaltending in the US.

    What do you think of the x hockey

      Not familiar with that exact brands, but reaction balls are fine tools to work on your catching and tracking.

    martial arts will argue that you can train reflexes. you can learn to ignore them and shut off your reflexes to withstand pain wihtout expression.

    • @goalietraining
      @goalietraining  Рік тому

      So I think you are describing using conscious control to override a reflex response - am I understanding what you're saying?

    • @chrismcallister3495
      @chrismcallister3495 Рік тому +1

      @goalietraining just one part of it. They also teach, according to those I know in the field, that reflexes can be accelerated thru agility, strength and speed training. Now maybe you have a different understanding of what a reflex is, but according to what I have been told, martial arts masters the body and mind to control all actions of the body. So reacting faster to stimuli or refraining from reacting at all can be achieved.
