Hi Gabriel! The pilgrimage in Tinos is equivalent, at a smaller scale, to the one of Lourdes, in France: thousands of Greeks Orthodox believers walk on their knees from the harbor to the church of Panagia Evangelistra to ask for the protection and favors of the Virgin. Tinos is the most important Orthodox place of worship.
I think the Holy Land is the most important pilgrimage destination for the Orthodox Christians.
I don't know if I would say "most important." I agree with the Lourdes analogy.
23:37 This building is a Dovecote. There are many Dovecotes in Tinos.
I like the Cross on the hill. Blue sky, sea.
I love these new Greek Islands Series. Well done Gabriel. You're my digital nomad hero
I’m Greek and Tinos is one my most favorite islands. I am sure that it’s going to be one of your favorites too. Keep in mind that the villages are the highlight of Tinos. Don’t miss Pyrgos, Volax, Kardiani, Ysternia, Dyo Choria, Smardakito. The island is also famous for the many intricately designed dovecotes. The hiking trails are endless. The views are breathtaking. The combination of blue sky, blue sea, bare looking hills, white buildings is all over the place. Have a wonderful time there! Looking forward to your next videos from fascinating Tinos!
This Greek island is a little piece of Heaven on earth.
Especially when accompanied with Greek salad and Mousaka😉
That is such an AWESOME thumbnail pic! Your content is always awesome, but your videos of Greece and/or India and the Himalayas are truly the BEST!. Seems like your heart belongs there. Really enjoying your Greek adventures. 👏❤️😊
Every Greek island 🏝 has their own unique beauty 🙏♥️ 🌻
Tinos is A Cristian Orthodox island full of churches very beautiful - with quite night - life and of course nice beaches.
Hora is the name of every bigest town in every Greek island
The best part of such a travel experience definately seem to be the ferry trips. Especially with those skies and the views of all the different islands in the distance.
Tinos looks a lot drier than Andros. It's common in Greece for the climate/vegetation to suddenly change due to some weird wind shift or mountain blockage. And as you noticed it's same with the food and architecture, different regions tend to go for different styles.
Exactly, Greece has strong rain shadow effects. Most of the Cyclades are in the "dry" side of a rain shadow. Same with Attica. The Eastern Aegean (Rhodes, Samos, Lesvls, etc) get much greener. The Ionian coast is also on the "wet" side of a rain shadow.
I love to watch the Greek islands from the ferry. You feel free.
Tinos is full of pigeon houses. You will see them all over the island.
Tinos is a catholic island the people there are coming from Western Europe the time of crusades and Venetians. Italians like to eat pigeons
@@basicinfo8786Everybody ate pigeons, they used them for communication also
Gabriel is at his most interesting and entertaining when he’s in Greece. Keep the videos coming!
Hi Gabriel, traveling to Tinos Island with that beautiful sunshine was an amazing day. Those Ferris are impressive for those short trips and wonderfully comfortable to travel. If I had to guess I would say some of these old towns were hit by earthquakes so people would have had to move because many of these locations became uninhabitable due to the destruction of those structures. Also, time may have played a part in aging structures that are hard to maintain.
Old rocks, wind and the bluest see in the world! That's why I love Greece with all my heart. Thank you for sharing your amazing journey!
Another amazing adventure Gabe. Thanks for taking us along.
Myrick, how ya bin man?
That is the life , clear blue skies and the sea.
You're right Cynthia
Hello my friend. Since you are in the Holy Island of Tinos, on the first floor of the church you visited is kept the "Miraculous Icon of the Virgin Mary of Tinos". Don't miss the unique opportunity to pay your respects to her grace.
24:03 generally, Ancient History is the gap between the first Civilizations (Sumer,Babylon, etc) until the fall of the Western Roman Empire, so from 3500 BC to around 476 AD. This island seems wonderful. Greece never ceases to amaze. Thanks for the video.
Got it. 👍
HI!The complex of this church is built around a miraculous icon which according to tradition was found after the Virgin appeared to the nun Pelagia and revealed to her the place where the icon was buried. The icon is widely believed to be the source of numerous miracles.
Wow,it's amazing that you're already on your 50th Greek island. Since you love Greece so much, ever have plans to move there for good someday?
Do you live in a village Carolyn?
I've been enjoying your videos of the Greek Islands. I am from Northern California. This was one of the nicest islands I have seen so far.
don't forget to go to the village of ysternia for the breathtaking view to the aegean sea.,the artistic village of pyrgos with the amazing architecture and the picturesque narrow streets and the village of volakas with the bizzare geological rocky structures.
I can tell Gabe loves the Greek Islands.
@GabrielTravelerVideos Once again an amazing video. At 20:30 I may help you why it sounds like a dinosaur 😅.... Tripotamos---> Tri (Τρι|) = three/ Potamos(ποταμός) = River [The place were three rivers merge/cross]
Triceratops---> Tri (Τρί)=Three / cerato (κέρατο)= Horn / Ops( ώψ)= Face [Three horns (on) face]
Hippopotamus---> Hippo (ίππος)= Horse / potamus (ποταμός)=River [River Horse]
River horse, very cool.
I’m sorry it was so cold at night, I’ve had that happen before and have had to use my backpack and once even the curtains haha. Alright, alright, alright.
There is also a museum of 1of our fav sculptors Halepas Giannoulis
Such a beautiful island 🇬🇷
Hi Gabriel.
Wellcome back.
Just to know, all Cyclades islands are about the same style in nature with many exceptions - at the highest places you can find green and water - Andros has one of the best water in Greece and at least 10 rivers..
But many people "likes" the Cyclades style - Have a nice vacations Spring trip to Summer..
Hey, if you are thinking of going to Delos, go for it! I was there last year and it's like visiting Pompeii, totally worth it!
Another day and another Greek Island, and what a beautiful island Tinos is. What a life! Plenty of ruins and churches to see. Lots of sunshine and a great hike up to the castle ruins. Great video, have fun!❤️😎✌️
I wake every morning same place..turn on Gabriels video he is on a different continent every day!!
Good afternoon Gabriel 💐 !! I'll say it again I'm so happy that you are back in Hellas 💐!! Hellas really suits you 💐!!
Hi Gabriel,Greece is definitely something else.
Yeah, it's outta sight
gabriel welcome back to greece great to see you enjoying more greek islands hope all is well and enjoy your summer 2024 travels and journeys.
Amazing hike!
Beautiful Gabe, your in Gabriel High Traveler Mode, as per Mr. Balder, lol
I love the colors of Greek architecture... 💙🤍💙
Recent videos in Greece are superb as always…thank you! Hopefully you will make it to Thassos this year as you head northwards?
Awesome Video Gabriel 🎉🎉🎉
Hi Gabe. According to your schedule you are still on the island of Tinos getting ready to visit some more villages. So a few pointers/interesting facts about the island:
1) It can’t be more different than Mykonos, at least by reputation. Tinos is the quintessential island for religious tourism, Mykonos is the island of sin and excess.
2) Despite being the epicentre of the orthodox Christian religious pilgrimage, it actually has a significant catholic population, about 40% of the island plus the seat of the catholic archbishop of Greece is in Tinos and not in Syros where the catholic population is numerically larger.
3) The village of Pyrgos which you said you planned to visit, is called the village of the sculptors as many very well known Greek sculptors originate from there including probably the most well known one of the 20th century Yiannoulis Halepas.
❤ great presentation thanks ❤
The religious paintings are icons
Stayed Andros in '92.....took ferry to Andros for trip....quiet in those days....Has it worsened !! Ferries bit more plush now !
It's the holy island of the Virgin Mary and in the village of Volax you will see a rocky landscape with round boulders. Creepy 💙🇬🇷🙏
Boulder are creepy?
@MarlinAmada yes it's strange it seems they don't belong to the island, the legend says titans and gods fought on the island and dropped these round boulders
the Cyclades, like all of Greece, is almost made of limestone, Delos is only made of granite, just like the stones of Volax, strange too
Fascination.
Greece and Gabe. Name a better love story
Ok. How about Gabe and a beautiful Czech woman?
Or Gabe and a hot Bulgarian babe
@@BhutWhut Ok, a beautiful Czech woman lying on a Greek island beach with Gabe (or ...without) would be ...perfection...
My island ....go to next village koumaros
Amazing view 👏 that Greek food is making me hungry
Unlike all other europeans, building big cathedrals and domes, greeks build little but a lot of them❤
There's many big churches too.
Yes, primarily small hut temples
@@DaltonMirklestein Nope. Only in the Cycladic countryside. You've obviously never been to Greece.
@@joeb5080 I'm beginning to wonder if you've ever been to Greece 🤔
Very true, real Greek art and architecture was and is in the human scale, simple and not huge and complex to impress
A little background info and fun facts on Tinos. 😊 That large church is Panagía Evangleístria (Our Lady of the Annunciation). It's a Marian pilgrimage site for Orthodox Christians, like Lourdes or Fatima are for Catholic Christians. It's an important pilgrimage church for Orthodox, and some Catholics visit too. Speaking of Catholic, while the majority Christian denomination in Greece is Orthodox, there are pockets of Roman Catholics in parts of the country, and Tinos is one of those pockets: the population is mixed Orthodox and Catholic, and quite a few villages are entirely Catholic. More fun facts: Tinos has a long tradition (in the modern era) of producing sculptors, and in the 19th century, Tinian sculptors have sculpted parts of buildings in other parts of the country, like Athens, Peloponnese, Corfu, etc. Also, Our Lady of Tinos is the patron saint of the Greek nation, and this pilgrimage site was tied to the Greek Revolution. Independence Day is March 25th, the same day as the Annunciation of Mary. 😊
It's more important for Catholics because Mary is the emphasis for them, not for the Greeks of Slavs.
@@DaltonMirklestein It's unclear what you're saying. Mary is huge in Greek culture. Romania too. This is a Southern Europe thing, not a Catholic thing. Mary took the place of Greco-Roman matriarchal deities. There's similar differences between northern and southern Catholics, with some exceptions (like Mary being big in Ireland. But not so much in Catholic areas of Germany. Aug 15 is only a public holiday in Bavaria and Saarland). You seem either northern Orthodox (Russian?) or an American convert. You're in for a culture shock in Greece.
@@joeb5080 I'm sure there are a few wayward Greeks, like yourself that idolize Mary. You don't speak for most Greeks. I speak for Orthodox Slavs, Armenians, and Greeks.
Woww !! Paradise 🍺🍺
The church in Tinos is the equivalent of the Asclepeion of antiquity where thousands of people made dedications to the gods and slept in the courtyard to heal. Of course, the Asclepia were also the great hospitals of antiquity where operations and diagnoses of patients took place! One of them survives on the island of Kos and another in Epidaurus..
Good stuff
I stayed in Tinos 3 years ago now - I stayed in a little village called Kampos, traditional restaurant in the central village square. fantastic. didn't have a car so felt slightly cut off as taxis were few and far between but there was a bus every few hours to link up to the capital and beaches. recommend it
Great video 🏴 🙏 👍
I like whiskey from Scotland
Nice, we travel with you!
Looks incredible there!
Beware of the wind in Tinos Gabe, because you have the weight of a feather!😍afterr visiting the church of the Holy Mother - "votsaloto" is called the design you saw at the entrance of the church area- go visit the monastery of St.Pelagia and the lush Falatados village, you'll be thrilled !! on the 15th of August every year we celebrate the Easter of the summer as we call it, meaning the Dormission of the Holy Mother. The dovecotes are a trade mark of the island.✌
Tinos is a gem.
Hi Gabriel. This year, the day after Easter is Saint George day, that’s the reason why the church had a celebration. It is also the name day for all Georges, men and women which is Giorgos and Georgia respectively (Γιώργηδες και Γεωργίες). This is a very common name in Greece, so many are these who celebrate.
I see, good to know.
Very Beautiful Thank You Gabriel🙂❤👍
You deserve more views and likes❤
Thanks Gabriel Again for taking me to the Greek islands, beautiful, and impressive. It has been raining for 2 weeks here. i can't go anywhere. i can't see the sun. i got depressed. Thanks to the videos from Gabriel.
Woohoo 🎉
Gabriel, +18C is way better than what we have today i Stockholm, +3C and heavy rain...
+24 here in italy, quite a gap between northern and southern europe
It is colder in the north @@tobia5267
That sounds rough indeed, especially for spring. Hang in there, summer is coming.
Yes, it's a bit cold for May, even for Sweden. Last Saturday it was +20C and sunny... so it changes quickly. And as you say, it can only get better now! I wish you a good stay in Greece.
15:48 Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but this is Gabriel the Archangel, where your name comes from. If you pay close attention you will see the name there. ;)
Been following for years now...I enjoy your videos too much, keep it up and many thanks for all the images you share with us! Enjoy!
Very cool, good to know.
Ah, Tinos. I was there in 1993, best aigean island imo.
Not so sure
Please go to Limnos! It is a fantastic, diverse island.
Hi Gabriel I enjoy your unique style and illuminating videos. I’m about to do a 4 island tour of Kos, Kalymnos, Patmos and Leros and very much looking forward to it.
Excellent, that will be a fun trip.

I’m exactly the same!
That was a traditional dovecote - παραδοσιακός περιστερώνας

I love Greek ferries! They can often look like rust buckets on the outside, but like cruise ships on the inside. 😆
And an intercom you can actually understand !

Indeed it is the great place to get away from it all
Gabe hope you decide to travel the mainland. Volos was where my mother was from and Edessa is where my father is from. Both beautiful town/villages.
I recommend you to visit the lakes in northern Italy, south of Switzerland, lake Como, Lago Maggiore, and the wild valleys Maggia Valley and Verzasca Valley in Ticino southern Switzerland. Hiking Paradise, wild and with Mediterranean climate. In valley Verzasca there is also the famous dam of the James abound movie Golden Eye. A must visit.
Tinos is amazing! Thank you for sharing! I appreciate your opinion about Greek islands. They have a specific charm.
Thank you for sharing I be Athen in 6/2 to 6/14 . I like visit Meteora any good advice?

Should have checked the museums in Tinos. A lot of painters and sculptors of the 19th and early 20th century are from Tinos. Pyrgos also a great village
I showed one of them in this video: ua-cam.com/video/TmnXc3NA__s/v-deo.html
Its cold for the time of the year, maybe something todo with el nino?
Looks like a beautiful day 😎☀️🌊❤️

I filmed in Uzbekistan a video about victory day. Some people came to my comments and argued. Do greeks celebrate this holiday?
Why would Greeks celebrate an old Soviet holiday?
❤❤❤❤
Go to Komi
I haven't seen my relatives there for many years.
Thank Gabe I love your Greek Islands videos. Too bad for the 90 in 180 days rule.
I think andros and tinos were connected in one island about 10 000 - 12 000 years ago due to general sea level back then
Ah Tinos , one of my favourites ❤. Are you going to Ios ? that is my most favourite ❤❤
Not planning to go there on this trip, but I've been there before: ua-cam.com/video/qTDLxJ6l4vE/v-deo.html

Thank you for all your greek videos Gab, love them. Would be great if you could do a video on your top 5 or 10 greek islands of all time, or just paste them here so your viewers can see :). Cheers, Ian from the UK
Yes we need an island tier list. In previous videos he was saying Andros is one of his favorite islands, now he says Tinos is one of his favorite. He says that a lot 😀Hard to get a sense🤣
