The common, inexpensive horn tweeters of the 1980s-ish were generally products sold by Motorola, and later by CTS. Used in all kinds of stuff, with different lenses for different applications, for decades -- although usually only systems that were intended to be able to play very loudly. Silk dome here as well. I love loud music, but want silky smooth. Silk is way more forgiving at peak volume. Using some polk 6.5 2 ways right now and love them. Some of the metal domes sound amazing when they are set up properly.
Agreed with another poster the Boston pros specifically .4's in the early to mid 90s were the GOAT titanium domes with tangenital surrounds and ridges to stabilize the cone. Legendary Quart 19's also but were piercing highs.... ADS Soft domes were also a reference back in the day.
The sticky material for sticking things is butyl mastic. It's used to hold the grille into the speaker ring. It's shit messy stuff. It melts on a hot summers day. I haven't seen that shit come with speakers since the 2000s.
The 3 way components look pretty good and compared to some other brands the price isn't too outrageous but for my money you cannot beat CT Sounds Meso 3 way components. I caught them on sale for $199.99 and bought 2 sets they are hands down the best sounding speaker system I have ever owned. I have them powered by a CT Sounds 150.4 amp and a set of NVX VSP4 and DS-18 mid bass for rear fill ran off of another CT Sounds 150.4 amp along with some NVX VCW124 subs on an NVX 2700.1 amp subs are ran through an Audiocontrol Epicenter then everything goes through Audiocontrol DM-608 and I can be going 90 mph on the interstate with windows down in my truck and can hear the music perfectly as can anyone driving close to me. I have it all packed into a 1997 Chevrolet Silverado K1500 extended cab. It took a lot of fiberglass work and fabrication to keep the stock look. I made kick panel pods and fiberglassed my door panels. I made a custom 2 1/2" rear seat lift kit to make room to fit a custom fiberglass sub box under the seat. The 4" speakers in the rear went into the spot that held the stock 4×6 speakers and I made fiberglass enclosure to hold DS-18 mid bass speakers and reshaped the rear side panels with fiberglass to blend those enclosures into the side arm rest areas on both sides. It kept me from losing my mind during the covid lockdown.
Idk I had one of the CT Sounds Meso 2 way sets and they were just so/so to me. They sounded alright but not great. Glad you're happy with yours though. It's hard to buy these online only company speakers because you just never know what they sound like.
Man I absolutely love that blue acrylic specker box you have, if you ever want to part with it let me know. Love your videos. D4S has been killing it lately.
I have 2 favorite tweeters. I loft the soft and smooth sound of the old school 1” silk dome Kicker tweeters that were there top models in and around 95’. Then I competed using 3/4”(if I remember right ) Cliff Design tweeters. I have no idea what they were but I can’t even begin to describe how good those were. So many tweets are too dang harsh. I like smooth and silky.
Another great video, Big D. A silk dome tweeter guy here but do like to have a low powered titanium dome tweeter for the sharpness with some music genres along side the soft dome tweeters... going to be using Kicker 2.75" KSCs and 3.75" KSCs in conjunction with the CST .75" tweeters (Kickers shallow-mount 6.75" subs in the doors to fill out the mid-bass) when I get around to striping everything down and then "rebuilding". I have a 2006 Saturn Vue with a sunroof and drive iwth the windows down most of the time so the hard dome tweeters do sound much better than soft dome tweeters with all of the wind noise on the highway. It is my daily driver and is often full so it needs to sound good and I'm a 'stealth' guy. PEI and ceramic tweeters sound bad to me, as do horns (usually) Music should sound smooth & natural, the way it was created... even EDM, IMO. Of course, it comes down to crossover settings, power, and proper installation but everyone here know that.
Big D, LOVE the channel content as an "old school bass head" from the 80's when the 150db mark hadn't been crossed yet & watching the Facuda/Maynard battles to get there, lol. Couldn't help but notice the sub was running in the test of the DS4 drivers. How would it affect things if it weren't running in regard to audible mid-bass driver response on it's own merit?
The soft dome silk tweets have that smooth-sounding high frequency, with a very good range, that really helps in small spaces. But, hard-domed tweets provide a better large room-filling high but tend to favor the upper range of the frequencies. IMO - soft-domed ones are warmer feeling, while the hard-domed ones provide that right-in-your-face twinkle.
I’ve been looking for speakers for my truck And these Down for sound speakers have really got me thinking they have a lot of features I like and you can’t beat the price point.
Those 3 ways look nice. sound good. I am curious to find out more about the story begind them and OZ. I still have a set of the OZ Matrix Elites. Superman for the win on those. I typically prefer metal domes (titanium, Aluminum) . I like the sharpness. But silks are cool too. The Ceramic ones are also nice, but hard to find someone using that material anymore.
I have the Infinity Kappa Perfect components and they are a beast. The magnet will almost touch the outside door panel its so big. I have them on a five channel amp with all infinity Kappa gear.
If they’re cheaper speakers, silk is typically a better bet. A well engineered hard dome tweeter absolutely kills though. I really like magnesium as a tweeter material. I wouldn’t have ever thought it would sound that good either.
Personally, I’ve always liked the smoothness and softness of a silk dome tweeter. It is all personal preference though. The best sounding tweeter is going to be the one that sounds best, TO YOU!
Aluminum dome tweeters are not bad, you just have to use the attenuation on the crossover or install the off axis if you think they are too harsh, soft dome are much smoother and suitable for on axis mount, I'm yet to try the beryllium dome tweeters but i heard they are the best sounding ones.
"This is for you, I don't really care about getting free speakers" Yeah right... Hahaha! Whatever you say Dig D.... I'm calling bullshit on that one. Getting free audio gear sent to you to play with is a dream come true!
Big fan of Beryllium inverted dome tweeters but they are quite cost prohibitive. Hertz uses a Tetolon dome tweeter that is a very close second in sound at nearly a quarter the cost. +1 on the old school MB QUART speakers back in the day. STILL one of the best sounding component sets of all time. Still available through German Maestro, still making them the same old way. Serious quality at a respectable price.
Beryllium is what came to mind first when he asked what your favorite tweeters were made from. I have had a few pairs of JM Lab home speakers with the Beryllium tweeters in them. They do sound pretty good.
I save my money for speakers that dont lie because there is only 2 places on the planet that can make a real beryllium dome and if they did it would cost about 33k per dome tweeter so what they do is spray a paint that has beryllium onto anidized aluminum and call it beryllium, its a dishonest move but its just one of many in the car audio world.
@@KnowName33 the old way was a vapor depositing (painting as you put it) of beryllium onto a base material, but this was a bad manufacturing process as the dust was harmful to breathe. The new less expensive method is a foil laminate that is less harmful to your health and environment. The laminate or base material is necessary because of the inherent brittle structure of the material. They’re still berylium just as much as Baltic birch plywood is birch. And they are STILL far superior sounding than most anything on the market.
i've run piezo, paper, mylar, aluminum, titanium, 'cloth', silk, and i've always enjoyed the silk the best. the right amount of sizzle without getting too crispy. as for the -3dB, 0dB, +3dB switch, you gotta look at it relative to the overall rated sensitivity. if it's 87dB for the system, but the tweeter can produce 90dB without any padding, then that setting would be +3dB relative to the other drivers. likewise on the -3dB setting, it would provide the tweeter with 6dB padding, thus making it 84dB or 3dB lower than the other drivers.
I often read remarks claiming the “smoother” sound of the silk domes but a good metal aluminum/titanium, alloy blends (IMO) will outperform silk but usually cost more (sometimes a lot). Good quality metal domes are more accurate and articulate. Most silks at the lower end don’t suffer from breakup (peaking) in the 10 KHz to 12 KHz and 18khz to 20khz area that similarly priced metal domes do, it’s why silk compares favorably in the low to mid priced category and is why metal gets a bad rap for fatigue. On that same note (no pun intended) silk tend to make a tish, tish sound when the music program is actually calling for is tis, tis. I recently compared much higher priced Focal's against the pioneer Z series with the aluminum domes, pioneer has a real sleeper there for sure. Very smooth, very accurate beyond human hearing to 96khz! These D4S mid-priced coaxial and 3 ways are very impressive. Silk or aluminum, when engineered to extend the breakup above 20 kHz is the key. Materials matter, but good design matters more.
I had a pair of Boston pro series titanium dome tweeters back in the mid 90s I’ve never heard a tweeter sound so good! They were paired with a set of mb quart 6.5 comp series that I had to order from Germany. With mb quart comp crossovers an a Phoenix gold m50 an a Phoenix gold 2 15x eq. I’ve never heard a better sounding car stereo
I have installed thousands of speaker systems in as many cars... As speakers went... Boston Acoustics PRO. Not the lower versions.... the PRO versions, are BY FAR the BEST sounding speaker system I ever installed in a car, yacht, aircraft... LIMO.... Amazing how much better a REAL speaker system can sound in comparison to that which they replaced. Amazing PRICE but... If ya had the CASH back in the DAZE?... Boston PRO. BDBD/2023
I personally would like to see the 6.5 woofer in the three way component to be treated as an infinite baffle dual two ohm so it would draw more of the current to produce more mid bass. And I do prefer soft dome tweets.
For cone material, I want to push the resonance outside the audible audio band. A metal cone that resonates at 12khz will be aweful for a tweeter, but will be fine for a subwoofer. Typically a soft dome can push resonance under the HPF, with a hard dome I'm looking for resonanse to be outside hearing range and then LPF the system
Beryllium is my favorite tweeter material. Don't have it for car stereo yet. Have Focal Solo6 Be studio monitors on my XL desk at home. They are beryllium and are incredible to listen to!
Those 3 ways look amazing value for money. The crossovers are something that always seems to be an afterthought with entry level, but those look quality.
$50 for a pair of decent speakers these days isn't bad. And yes I'd say honestly these are some decent and balanced speakers. Good job D4S. I hope everyone who has an OEM crappy stereo in their vehicle (as all OEM stereos are crappy) upgrade their speakers for better music and listening enjoyment. Because life without (good sounding) music would be a mistake!
...The Infinity Ribbons from the 90's were excellent, but fragile. Even with the cool tweeter protection on the crossover, customers would obliterate them regularly! A very different sound compared to domes! I have some Peerless anular rings in my car at the moment, they sound excellent!
I did the unthinkable in my old school days I mixed brands on my front end. I had CDT mid with soft dome tweeters. I never liked aluminium tweeters as too harsh. Eventually due to inaging issues I swapped out CDT tweeter for Infinity EMIT ribbon tweeter and loved them. They had a slightly crisper sound without sounding like an aluminium tweeter, I’d describe the sound a smooth and sssssssssss ish
Just have to say that Big D , HiFi Vega and the rest of the car audio UA-cam family has all the respect even when given a product they still don't hold back on their testing for us the consumers to win so D4S JP we need subs next so I can complete my system with all D4S products
Lol, I hope someone doesn’t mind beaming between the midrange and tweeter on that 3-way set. Not gonna look too great on an RTA. The tweeter doesn’t go low enough for that 3” cone of the midrange. Ideally, you’d want to do the midrange to tweeter crossover no higher than 2,250Hz, but can get away with 3,000Hz. Going up to 5kHz would make those mids beam like crazy. The mid-bass to midrange should also be a lot lower than 750Hz, but the woofer won’t be beaming too badly there. 315Hz between mid-bass and midrange and then 2.25kHz would be best for midrange to tweeter, but it doesn’t sound like those are capable of that. Definitely an SPL-oriented 3-way set instead of an SQ set as they look to be marketed. As for tweeter material, I do agree that a silk dome sounds the best and most natural. Most hard dome tweeters are just too harsh.
It would be great to see/hear the cute midrange' enclosed . Free air doesn't feel right! I'm sure there are reputable outlets that would sell a homebrew 3" bookshelf cabinet. You could also install the tweeters. Not entirely necessary with tweeters in this regard, but way more satisfying! Love the vids. Especially the amp dynos!
I love silk dome tweeters. However the titanium ones on my Paradigm Monitor 11 v5 home speakers I really like those too. They are the first ones I've ever liked.
I had four MB discus 6x8's in my Ranger 20 years ago, and boy those 1/2" Ti tweets on those could scream! i powered them with an Alpine CDA-7873 HU with the 60w of V-Drive POWAH! avoided hard tweets ever since
I am a fan of the silk soft dome tweeters as well. Not usually a fan of aluminum tweeters, but the component speakers did sound very good and balanced. Tweeters, I also like titanium tweeters now that I finally ended up with some getting a JBL system. I usually don't like tweeters smaller than an inch, but the JBL's on my tower speakers are 3/4 inch Titanium, and very bright and clear. But not harsh.
I like the guy from Robot underground and he is honest about things like speakers and amplifiers.. He speaks some truths about the industry and a lot of things are way overpriced for the quality delivered.. With speakers i always try to balance between price to performance, with most of us we’re not going to the lengths that we are going to dampen the whole interior and panels of a car till perfection so we don’t need the “ultra high end” stuff.. Plus when you invest in a great headunit (chinese with optical out) and good amplifiers you can get away with somewhat cheaper speakers and if you want to upgrade in the future..
i remember reading that car door speakers are very bad when put into boxes as the thiele small parameters basically make them infinite baffle speakers, meaning in a box you'll get just about zero low end extension at all
I built a real nice speaker box for camping. Put some automotive six and a half inch JBL three ways. The problem is I was testing them with my house receiver and it wasn't very happy driving 4 Ohms loads at those levels. I ruined my receiver. It was a few years old and lower end but still a Pioneer ELITE series. I wanted to cry.
Beryllium for tweeter cones…. Lol J/K I really like ribbon style tweeters like the FOUNTEK NEOCD1.0 style. After going to this type and their airy super fast response I just fell in love. Though I really like a good matched pair of silk softies like from Morel. Those are unbelievably amazing. Yep I’m a weird one that will use mid to high end HiFi home audio offerings for my tweets in my car audio setups. As I get older I seem to care about the fatiguing nature of the materials usually used by car audio companies. Even when softies are used it’s just different. The biggest change is the crossovers though. That’s where it counts. I was pleasantly surprised JP used air core inductors and didn’t cheap out. Big ups for that for sure. The only thing I would get picky about is the plated termination/connection points though at this price point it’s not a big deal at all. Mostly preference.
Outro crew here: Silk soft dome are my favorite to listen too. I'm not one for the harsh metal dome tweets. And, horns are like cilantro to me. The flavor becomes is all horns, it's hard to appreciate the flavor of anything else.
So glad you demo’d these I’ve been wanting to hear and see them bump. I def will be buying the middle pair for work truck. The first pair kinda remind me of skar 6.5s. Jp and the guys hit it out the park again . Can’t wait for them to do subs
I used to have OZ Audio mids and highs set up that sounded absolutely phenomenal, I used to hate having to hide those metallic grey baskets cuz they looked so good lol. Looking at the specs on the coaxials on D4S they're identical?
If you have not heard the USCMR yet I would definitely recommend it, it’s the loudest midrange speaker that I’ve ever heard. I love how even their speakers are underrated 😂😂😂
Am I the only one who thinks the cone on the 2 better drivers looks like the old Diamond Hex, I know these sure look thinner, but the pattern reminded me of them.
I have a JL Audio C7 3-way in my Ram. The quality of the D4S tweeters look far superior to the JLs. Love the aluminum ring instead of the flush mount system of the c7 or any JL tweeter for that matter. And... you can get a full 3-way set of DS4 for $200 less than just the c7 tweets. I'd love a SQ comparison between them. Get on it Big D!! 🙃
Personally i tend to gravitate toward AMT tweeters. Particularly fond of Adam Audio studio monitors, and Emotiva home speakers for this very reason. Not much going on in car audio with AMT tweeters as i suspect they are less forgiving with placement which would impact the overall imaging.
I prefer beryllium tweeters due to the ir performance with power. They have worked great for my SQ setups but also work well with SQL if you need the extra SPL. The only issue with beryllium is definitely the cost. I have chosen home audio drivers from Paradigm and James Loudspeakers with good success.
2nd time watching this vid. THe 3-way have markedly better/tighter low end control. Be nice to bail the crossovers and run them active with a good DSP unit to take advantage of their apparent build quality, sounded pretty nice. Reminds me a lot of the cone material Eton used at one point.
i just ordered two of each speaker they carry. including their 8" midbass. they arrive tomorrow. also grabbed one of each type of amp from the 700w up to the jp63. going to be fun to play with their stuff. i personally like aluminum cone drivers, my home speakers are aluminum and i like their attack compared to silk or paper.
I actually switched all my Orion speakers to Oz speakers back in the 90's. I definitely liked they're components. The subs sounded good also, just didn't hit as hard. But they were a more SQ. I think, not positive but I believe Karma has some dealings with Oz also.
I don't have this set, but I recently tried a set of d4s 65 v2's, and I can tell you right now... they absolutely destroy the previous neo orions I was using in every way other than size. Much better midbass, better smoother, less harsh, but louder mids and highs, better power handling, more efficient than the neos somehow, and they sell RECONES! $40 to recone a pair. That pushed me to buy a set and try them. Bought recones, but they take power like champs. I wont need them after some abusive testing. Eating every bit of wattage from one of the Rockford Fosgate power T3002's I bought from you a lil while back. I'm not a fan of JP, but the equipmet quality and innovative nature of his business and customer input is surely working. I'll say first hand, these mids are beyond awesome. Price, quality, function, delivery time. You DO get it all. I'd surely recommend them, and buy again with ZERO hesitation. I might give this set a try in my ladies G8 in a sound quality build later this year. Thanks for the review D!
For the past decade or so I’ve been listening to Planar Isodynamic Tweeters. The material used is a Kapton film diaphragm. But my failsafe has always been Silk Dome Tweeters

Best component set I ever owned🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥extremely clear👌🏾Boston Acoustics
The sticky material for sticking things is butyl mastic. It's used to hold the grille into the speaker ring. It's shit messy stuff. It melts on a hot summers day. I haven't seen that shit come with speakers since the 2000s.
They call it Monkey Shit in the Navy...LOL... Butyl Rubber will outlive humanity. BDBD/2023
CT is fair at best Hertz, Focal ,CDT all make superior components for audiophiles.
I’ve been looking for speakers for my truck
And these Down for sound speakers have really got me thinking they have a lot of features I like and you can’t beat the price point.
My all time favorite tweeter is the Infinity EMIT. Love the crisp sound from them
Those 3 ways look nice.
Maybe I'm old school or just old, because I agree 100% with silk being my favorite tweeter material. 👍
Everyone's preference is different but they do the job they are designed for and has some clean sound too.
I have the Infinity Kappa Perfect components and they are a beast. The magnet will almost touch the outside door panel its so big. I have them on a five channel amp with all infinity Kappa gear.
I'd prefer them with more subtle branding than slap it in the middle of the speaekers, though I guess that is the cheapest 20c way to add it.
If they’re cheaper speakers, silk is typically a better bet. A well engineered hard dome tweeter absolutely kills though. I really like magnesium as a tweeter material. I wouldn’t have ever thought it would sound that good either.
What’s a good example?
Personally, I’ve always liked the smoothness and softness of a silk dome tweeter. It is all personal preference though. The best sounding tweeter is going to be the one that sounds best, TO YOU!
@@91CavGT5 Smooth as glass? Or more of a violin sound?
@@webberfan1234 smooth by means they don't have ear-piercing peaks. silk dome tends to roll off earlier than metal counterpart at the same diameter
Aluminum dome tweeters are not bad, you just have to use the attenuation on the crossover or install the off axis if you think they are too harsh, soft dome are much smoother and suitable for on axis mount, I'm yet to try the beryllium dome tweeters but i heard they are the best sounding ones.
I tried them and they kinda sound like a mix if the 2. Less harsh but not like silk dome either.
"This is for you, I don't really care about getting free speakers" Yeah right... Hahaha! Whatever you say Dig D.... I'm calling bullshit on that one.
Getting free audio gear sent to you to play with is a dream come true!
🙄
I like the silk/soft dome tweeters for clarity.
Back in the day soundstream made some awesome sounding components
For cone material, I want to push the resonance outside the audible audio band. A metal cone that resonates at 12khz will be aweful for a tweeter, but will be fine for a subwoofer. Typically a soft dome can push resonance under the HPF, with a hard dome I'm looking for resonanse to be outside hearing range and then LPF the system
Beryllium is my favorite tweeter material. Don't have it for car stereo yet. Have Focal Solo6 Be studio monitors on my XL desk at home. They are beryllium and are incredible to listen to!
berylliums are great but use them with precautions. keep them intact. if you managed to break the dome, better get out and vent the room.
Regardless of how they sound, they look like a million bucks... really knocked it out of the park.
I had a rainbow comp set with cdt woofers. I didn't like cdt tweeters either. I didn't like rainbow woofers.
Yes , once you've hear Infinity EMIT tweeters, then it becomes a reference to other tweeters. Armies Nudel got it right decades ago.
Just have to say that Big D , HiFi Vega and the rest of the car audio UA-cam family has all the respect even when given a product they still don't hold back on their testing for us the consumers to win so D4S JP we need subs next so I can complete my system with all D4S products
Hey Big D. Would you be able to do these test without the subwoofer in the back ground connected?
. JFX are pretty sweet. CFXT are the eZ upgrade. 💜 wait for hexicone 😉
Silk dome are the ONLY tweeters ill run. Very subtle and not to harsh but still sharp.
I would like to see how the d4s 3 ways compare to the ct sounds meso 6.5 3 way speakers
There is no need for a sub playing when demoing speakers. Just demo the speakers you are demonstrating 😉
I have on headphones and didn't hear any subwoofer and my headphones are very bass heavy because I listen to a lot of rebassed and bass boosted music!
@@marcusstanley9317 not only can you hear it. You can SEE the sub moving.
I made that comment before it had got to the copon
Got to the 3way set and I saw the sub moving, my fault man!
@@marcusstanley9317 all good sir😊
Especially the amp dynos!
if you ask me I would sell them 3 inch drivers ONE OFF.... NICE 3 inch drivers are difficult to find... Hmmmmmm... BDBD/2023
I love silk dome tweeters. However the titanium ones on my Paradigm Monitor 11 v5 home speakers I really like those too. They are the first ones I've ever liked.
Reminds me of the old school Audiobahn carbon fiber series speakers 😊
Wich I love
I had four MB discus 6x8's in my Ranger 20 years ago, and boy those 1/2" Ti tweets on those could scream! i powered them with an Alpine CDA-7873 HU with the 60w of V-Drive POWAH!
avoided hard tweets ever since
Nice I know Johnathan will come out with the D4S Subwoofers someday.
Favortite tweet material: Beryllium (Focal).
Second: Titanium/Aluminum
You shouldn't have added the sub on the last set of speakers. I wanted to hear those by themselves.
For the price of the 400 ones make sense buy10 prv and pioneer super tweeter
I like the guy from Robot underground and he is honest about things like speakers and amplifiers.. He speaks some truths about the industry and a lot of things are way overpriced for the quality delivered..
With speakers i always try to balance between price to performance, with most of us we’re not going to the lengths that we are going to dampen the whole interior and panels of a car till perfection so we don’t need the “ultra high end” stuff..
Plus when you invest in a great headunit (chinese with optical out) and good amplifiers you can get away with somewhat cheaper speakers and if you want to upgrade in the future..
Silk always are not as loud but play so smooth. But I still have some Boston Acoustic components with Aluminum and they nice and clear.
i remember reading that car door speakers are very bad when put into boxes as the thiele small parameters basically make them infinite baffle speakers, meaning in a box you'll get just about zero low end extension at all
yep
I'm with you on the Silk soft dome tweeters. I don't mind Mylar tweeters either.
Wish the random Sundown subwoofer wasn’t playing in the background during the 3-way demo.
I like the “Phenolic” material used on the Selenium ST-200 tweeters. But then again I’m more of an SPL guy than SQ so the silk may be more “musical”.
Very clean audio and very cute design.
JP’s stepping it up!
Silk dome tweeters FTW!
Hands down, titanium. Specifically MBQ from 1998. Give me all the harshness!!!😂 For SQ silk. Specifically the Dynaudio 3 piece set. 🤤
more info on the whole oz audio thing? i actually knew everyone there we sold them for years and john and greg were friends of mine.
How do these compare to CT Sounds, Massive, Focal AS
I have a JL Audio C7 3-way in my Ram. 🙃
As a jl fanboy I'd have to agree. And the price too lol
It was badass to see Steve Meade watching your videos. Congratulations!!!!
Hands down the tweeds in the a/d/s 345is 5.25 components. These were on another level.
ADS... the ORIGINAL.... first in autosound history. ua-cam.com/video/NOMAUvdpurg/v-deo.html
I really prefer soft Dome tweeters. Their tone is just warmer, hard Dome tweeters are also harsh expecially after long listening periods!
The 3 ways look clean, wondering if I should get those or the ct sounds 3 ways
Personally i tend to gravitate toward AMT tweeters.
Particularly fond of Adam Audio studio monitors, and Emotiva home speakers for this very reason.
Not much going on in car audio with AMT tweeters as i suspect they are less forgiving with placement which would impact the overall imaging.
Silk for sure 👍 the smoothest tweets. For demos have to go Titanium, helps to balance out heavy bass 🔊 just my thoughts 🤔 😀
I prefer beryllium tweeters due to the ir performance with power. They have worked great for my SQ setups but also work well with SQL if you need the extra SPL. The only issue with beryllium is definitely the cost. I have chosen home audio drivers from Paradigm and James Loudspeakers with good success.
1. Are these considered to be SQ?
2. Realistically are these comparable in a SQ way to say JL or Infinity?
Thank you
2nd time watching this vid. THe 3-way have markedly better/tighter low end control. Be nice to bail the crossovers and run them active with a good DSP unit to take advantage of their apparent build quality, sounded pretty nice. Reminds me a lot of the cone material Eton used at one point.
Favorite tweeter material is mylar particularly with planars.
i just ordered two of each speaker they carry. including their 8" midbass. they arrive tomorrow. also grabbed one of each type of amp from the 700w up to the jp63. going to be fun to play with their stuff. i personally like aluminum cone drivers, my home speakers are aluminum and i like their attack compared to silk or paper.
I actually switched all my Orion speakers to Oz speakers back in the 90's. I definitely liked they're components. The subs sounded good also, just didn't hit as hard. But they were a more SQ. I think, not positive but I believe Karma has some dealings with Oz also.
Big fan of silk domes too, don't sound as harsh as metallic options, just wish they could handle more power...
The way you wire it in, you are still using the crossover in the box? If thats the case, you are testing them as woofers.
Im gonna love the jfx653s and the Jfx65 coaxials
Like you I've always favored soft silk dome tweeters....
For the past decade or so I’ve been listening to Planar Isodynamic Tweeters. The material used is a Kapton film diaphragm. But my failsafe has always been Silk Dome Tweeters
