    Astounded by the layout and features of this yacht! I'm literally floored and cannot understand why so many other manufacturers, even supposedly high-end names, opt for cookie-cutter layouts that don't take the best advantage of all the interior space available. This yacht is brilliantly thought out and the features are incredible. Looks like it can also survive a hurricane with its robust design. Whoever buys this will be very fortunate indeed.

      Completely agree. JFA is the real deal, and they certainly didn't cut any corners with this beast 🙌

      You can "take advantage of all that room", or you can have a fast boat. Narrow hulls equal fast.

    • @timdunn2257
      @timdunn2257 Рік тому

      Yacht design is a series of compromises. You can have maximum accommodations or maximum speed under sail. You can't have both. Maximum accommodation cats are called roomarans for good reason. Fast cats have less displacement and less hull beam - but sail faster. No, you cannot have both!

    • @andreachinaglia5804
      @andreachinaglia5804 Рік тому

      @@timdunn2257 You can have both and to some extent with this boat you have both. The compromise factors are not only speed and space/comfort, there is a 3rd factor that is really important: the money you spend.
      I don't know how a 85 feet cat like this cost and how expensive is to maintain it an pay for a crew, but its size and its having a pro skipper are keys of why is is not slow.
      What you say is true for a much smaller cat that you pay a lot less, pick a Lagoon and you have space, pick a Marsaudon and you have speed, pick a Leopard or an Outremer and you have something in between. With a boat like this, that is not built for races, you have a lot of space and comfort and still you are fast, even if the flybridge compels to have a very high boom, that is not good for speed, even if the boat is heavy and Antartica ready. The captain says that it can easily cruise at 10-12 knots, that is 240-290 Nm/day, that is fast for a cruising sail boat, not as fast as a Gunboat, but enough even for long passages, a 85 feet long boat must go very slow, be a sitting duck, to be slow.

    This is an awsome boat. I love how it was clearly designed to be used by an owner/operator and functional for cruising. Not like so many catamarans that are built for luxury charters. If I had the money I would love a boat like this.

      I wish more catamarans were as well thought out as this one. Granted, it has a lot of interior space at 85' but I've seen other similar sized that have poor use of space. The main deck master cabin and galley down combination is rare. Usually, the reverse is the case even on the biggest modern cats. Love this layout.

    If this can really go through the Drake Passage, then this truly is the best catamaran on earth and one of the best options even for me. Branson's Necker Belle is very luxurious, but can't handle heavy seas. Other Catamarans, like the Garcia and Pelagic, don't even have modest luxury. This is modest luxury, but if the yacht can really go anywhere, then this is a very economical to operate option, even though it is quite expensive at $9 million, a price at which you can find very capable and luxurious motor yachts, but those are very expensive to operate. Other go-anywhere sailing yacht options, like the Trehard 104ft and 120ft ones with a centerboard, twin rudders, engines, screws, and ketch rigs have turned very old. Motor yachts, like the Alucia and other conversions I'd only require to take amphibious aircraft, helicopters, submarines and amphibious vehicles along. This is quite a comfortable economic option. I know it has no pool or Jacuzzi, but the sundeck is quite comfortable and the bars, again, aren't too bad. This isn't a very luxurious option, it's an economical option, without the pools, Jacuzzis, wide-open salons and sprawling sundecks, but at the same price point as the more-expensive-to-operate luxury yachts

      Hi Assets topurchase. I just noticed your comment and thought I could elaborate on it. The NDSE has indeed transited the Drake Passage. After completing the voyage in Antarctica the vessel departed for the west coast of S. America and then on to Australia, before heading to Europe to complete the circumnavigation. I brokered the deal for the Necker Belle when it was sold a few years ago. The two vessels are not comparable. The Necker Belle was a nice day-sailer but it is in no way more luxurious, or even close to the build quality of the NSDE. In it's prime the Necker Belle was valued at around $9m. When I sold it a few years ago the asking price was $2million. The cost to build the NSDE right now would be around $12 million. The fit and finish of the interior joinery cannot be matched by any other production catamaran builder, and the overall construction of the catamarans built at JFA are considered pedigree in the catamaran world. It is indeed a true luxury cruising yacht. It just doesn't have a jacuzzi that rarely gets used on the luxury yachts, because they are a huge waste of space. I spent a few days onboard the NSDE. I did not see one thing that could have been described as economic. I saw many things that would be considered extremely efficient and well thought out. I would love to keep this conversation going if you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out: David@Denisonyachting.com

    These days, with sonars, radars, and thermal imagers , you can avoid
    icebergs and drifting containers, but can this really withstand the
    massive 20ft to 80ft waves around the Drake Passage? Has it
    circumnavigated via Cape Horn or the Panama Canal? Has it taken the
    North-West Passage?
    It has a draft of 7ft, which is quite deep for a catamaran, and a beam
    of 40ft, which is quite good for an almost flat superstructure, so the
    two, together, should provide it with the same righting ability as a
    16ft to 20ft draft on taller mono-hulls, but I don't know how a
    composite superstructure or the large glass windows and door, which make
    for amazing panoramic views and cool breezes would fare in heavy seas
    in terms of wave-impact or overboard deluges. It also has redundant
    twin engines, screws, and rudders, which, again, is a major plus. This
    is the only luxurious catamaran, albeit only modestly luxurious because
    it doesn't have a pool or a large sundeck, but if that luxury has been
    sacrificed for a really go-anywhere survivability around Cape Horn, the
    sacrifice would be worth it. Has this really traversed Cape Horn?

    Huge vessel and I like the bows and that they seem to rise up slightly.
    But for a high latitudes vessel i would prefer to see a direct view and forward deck access from a full working inner helm even if it had to be elevated on a platform or removed to the master suite area. I agree having guests or crew walking past your private spaces windows day or night ... no thanks I'd rather see it in place of the flying bridge but keeping a lower profile.
    The open fly bridge isnt a feature i like on cats.. it makes sail handling more dangerous than it needs to be especially in foul weather.
    The auxillary motor propulsion really should be Diesel electric hybrid systems with a substantial battery system for silent or quieter more efficient power and reduced maintainance costs, the ICE generators can be remotely mounted from the motors and the electric motors can hydro regen under sail, in conditions and at times where solar would be badly inhibited by the latitude and weather. The rig shadow also significantly inhibits solar panel performance.
    Magnificent as it is in many ways its still very conventional compared to where many smaller cats have already gone.

      Each vessel is at this level a mix of the designer and owners ideas.
      The pioneer though in terms of detailed and radical design is the 🇬🇧 builders of the DeepBlue 550 Rapier of some years back and before that a unique Cat designed on the same all carbon hulls for wheelchair user sailors. ua-cam.com/video/Tn5oGCYcVtA/v-deo.html
      The other point on reflection i find a little concerning is the lack of water tight compartments in the hulls and transversely in the lower machine/bilge spaces.

    On second thoughts, this is a very good option even for me, provided it can really go anywhere. All catamarans are shallow draft, but can it survive the rough seas in the Drake Passage, Southern Ocean, and North Atlantic, quickly take the large sail off and survive 20ft to 80ft waves? Can it squeeze in-between drifting icebergs, with a 40ft beam, and can it withstand accidental impact with small chunks of floating ice or dislodged containers?

    • @clifbradley
      @clifbradley 2 роки тому +3

      It went to Antarctica and they used the RIB to push icebergs out of the way. In addition to that, they ran a bumper band around the hulls to protect against side impacts. For the bottom, it is is reinforced aluminum structures with improved forward echo sounding and protected skegs. As far as 20 ft and 80 ft waves coming over the bow, who knows. But you also wouldn't be that much of an idiot to take this boat through there in the winter. This boat actually had a documentary made about the trip. Or a news story at least.
