    Yes, Knowledge of different softwares is very important in structural design. Etabs is very convenient in RCC design and Staad in Steel structure. Modeling is very easy in Etabs and also easy to interpret the results. I have not worked so much in Staad but I want to learn Staad as it is must know software in design. I followed your steel structural design videos using Staad but they are in too advance level. Please make videos from basic so we can learn step by step. Your explaining skills are excellent. I'm waiting for your staad series from basic to advance.

    In the Netherlands we use mostly Scia engineer, axcis VM and Diana is also used.

    *I have been using STAAD and ETABS for years but i found STAAD are proned to errors.. For RCC, ETABS is the best in my opinion, in terms of economical design and fast modelling. STAAD is good for Steel Structures*

    What do you think about Tekla Structural Designer (TDS)? I heard about it from a professional, and he said, "It is easier than Etabs and Stadproo".

      I don't have any personal experience with tekla tds.. so I can't give comparison for now. But I've used tekla tedds, tedds is a good software.it gives complete calculation for design.

    Which one would you recommend for structural analysis and design of underground large sized water storage reservoirs , say 150m x 100m by 8m deep.

    Is revit structure doing the same thing of stad pro and etabs ?? And which one is better?

    • @eCivilTech
      @eCivilTech  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Rawezh, In Revit your have both structure analysis tab and Architectural tab. It can do structural analysis. But as I've never worked on Revit, I cannot compare it with Staad or etabs. But one thing I can say, in Revit you can model the structure as actual, So you'll get quantity of all elements very accurately which staad and etabs can never give. Currently Staad and Etabs are most used softwares in market, but future of Revit may be more bright.

    I prefer to choose etabs cause i feel similar with sap2000 in indonesia, i think every analysis software has plus minus.

    What are the specifications for laptops to run these softwares, cheap & best

    • @eCivilTech
      @eCivilTech  3 роки тому

      I5, with clock speed more than 2.5ghz with 16Gb ram. I am recommending 16gb ram as while working on these software we need autocad and excel as well. 8gb of ram also work. Also, I recommend DESKTOP than Laptop as desktop with same configuration performs better than laptops.

    Believe me staad is not good for anything....complex models for a framed structure is not good....simple aspects of slab modeling is so tiresome....they are surviving mostly because they fulfill ego standards of for IS code.... Even the process of frame numbering n all that is too complicated.....they were really doing well while working on physical modeler but thn again, proper assignments of lateral loads n for further design and analysis have to colobrate with analytical model n this experience wasn't good.....
    Than again ETABS is not a dream girl its better at modeling but idk why but there is a tolerance of 45 degrees.....n that nonsense distroys a lot of things i mean is staircase has more slope than 45 degrees its not good, sloped roof also fails in those points...it can't consider stoffness modifiers to certain loads....i mean lets say we dont want to consider any stiffness modifiers in Gravity load thn etabs wont allow that (staad does allow that), it cant let you overwrite Ast you are providing in beams in overrights, if that was available than all the BS of torsion and shear can be easily solved as we can get shear resistance idea by percentage ast and concrete grade.....
    SAFE is really like manual design of footing literally from checking one way shear till required reinforcement everything has to be manually chevked thousands of times....
    I guess no natter what softwares come non will actually satisfy actual requirement of a structure designer....or to get perfect BBS....for that you must have to use basic ideas, be excellent at coding, be familier with all American codes, british codes and european codes....
    Softwares like robot were good enough but thn again they won't include is codes....
    Tekla doesn't have really good learning source....and few things that is possible in modeling in ETABS are not possible here...
    And to anyone who wants to be a good structure engineer please dont depend on IS codes (please moveover to American codes ASAP)as rhey can give you CGPA in a semester, but practically they are fucked up beyond recognition, countless errors and than again they will introduce thousands of ammendments....
    Remember that just solving analysis and design aspect is not necessary. Perfect design file, good detail drawing, perfect estimation is all really necessary so please be verycareful about what you choose.....
    Again its upto you if you believe and trust elder and senior engineers than you can do what they teach you....
    Always remember one aspect that you are using a software so that you can work faster and more accurately with almost zero assumptions now again if at that point comes the aspect of manual calculation than there is actually no use of knowing those softwares.....
