Interesting build Chris. Perhaps you can alter that jig by putting a spring mechanism on each side and use it as a plunge for the drill? Just a thought..... 👍👍😉😉

To bad it didn’t work the way you hoped. It still made for a great video!

Thanks, Wes. This was a fun experiment, but indeed too bad it doesn't work. When I make something I always want it to work. Not only for myself but also so I could inspire other people.
      Thanks for stopping by, buddy.

I'm sorry, but this one doesnt only give bad results in comparison to a real router, this one is a safety nightmare. There are reasons why routers run at high rpm and drills dont. Additionally, drills aren't made for sidewards pressure. It may work okayish with a job like you showed, but please never ever try to dig into material with this.
There are enough videos on youtube from professional woodworkers and engineers explaining why this is highly risky and every 20$+ china router is safer and gives better results.
Love your other work, this one I wished I hadnt seen :/

Thank you for watching. As I said in the video, this was an experiment, and will never use this jig. That is why I recommend people buying a real router at the end of the video. This jig can be used as an alternative for a router to make lighter passes in softwood like the MDF I demonstrated. This was a fun experiment, but I will use my router in the future for sure, I just like my clean finishing to much, hahaha.

    Hi,
As expected, a very well made, inspiring video.
    It was like you predicted.
It does work, but as you said in your comment ,the rpm was way to low.
Thank you so much for doing this experiment, few UA-camrs dear to say the same as you at the beginning of a video.
It's an experiment and it doesn't work, brilliant.
Keep it safe, it is not over yet.
    Willy from Belgium.

I think it's okay to be honest. If it doesn't work, it just won't work. You don't have to lie about it and give people the wrong information. It was weird to make a jig that I will never use, in fact, I burn it on my wood stove hahaha. Still, I could not help myself to finish it right. I think that is just how I am, LOL.

Hoi Henk.

Nee joh Chris. Je doet het hartstikke goed man. Zeker in het engels. Top man.

Nice build, but I'm not sure if the bearings on the drill like the lateral forces soo much.

    • @christofix
      @christofix  3 роки тому

You are right, Kris. I also think a drill cannot handle those forces. This was a fun experiment to do, but as I said in the video, I will never use this jig and recommend people buying a router.
Thank you for watching, my friend.

Not a bad way to spend the day, making a jig just to seeing it works,
and for the benefit of those who may not have a router. 👌🏽
Good on you, mate, that was interesting. 👍🏽

Thanks, Bill. It was a fun experiment. Although this jig is far from perfect, I still hope some people can use the idea to help them out.
