  • Let's play an Automation campaign and try to get a luxury car company going in a 100x difficulty setting! I try to explain what I am doing, so the series has a few tutorial elements.
    In this episode the Godwit will get an update - taking it from muscle more towards the supercar market.

    The heavy balancing mass on the F1 engine severely hurts throttle response, which is a base stat for sportiness, that gets multiplied by your other sportiness bonuses. You're really shooting yourself in the foot with that. That's why you're only getting an 86 sportiness rating despite going all-out. You could be deep in the 100s if you had designed your engine around minimum balancing mass.

      Thanks for the hint! I needed heavy balancing for the engine prototype to reach higher rpms. I maybe forgot to optimize it for the production version. Hopefully I remember it for the facelift!

    think the main problem with the street trim if how high revving it is, to not blow up the turbo in the high rpms it limits you how small you can make it to spool earlier had it been a 8k rev limit you may get it closer to 3k spool, but may be a low 300hp then

    28:34 the turbo map is barely used meaning the compressor (exducer) on the turbo is way to big, the compressor and AR ratio determines the compressor map size and the exhaust side (inducer) determine how fast it should spool. so a smaller exducer allows the turbo to spool earlier without surge stress.
    i hope what i say makes sense as english is not my first language. but the compressor map is great to use for tuning the turbo to what you want

    Just so you know, 50/50 static weight distribution is actually NOT ideal. It's within the range of ideal, but it's not perfect. The closer you can get it to 40/60 (rear heavy) the better for handling, acceleration (RWD), and braking it'll be. Past 60% rear and you end up encountering not enough weight on the front for steering during acceleration in most cases (Nissan Deltawing notwithstanding), though it does continue to improve RWD acceleration and braking.

    The Godwit cars are some of my favorites design-wise, they put Might's distinct design language into a very sporty package. I'm not going to sugarcoat it though, the sluggish throttle response on especially the first 2 generations really dulls the driving experience for me. The Godwit III is a big improvement compared to the first 2, but it still feels like the car is holding a lot of its power back. The handling is very sharp, responsive, and controllable with all generations of Godwit, and all models would be excellent for taking adventurous Gasmean retirees on long, winding road trips in style, even the sharp and powerful Godwit III thanks to its AWD system. This really makes sense for Might's conservative portfolio. All of this can very quickly and easily be fixed by lowering the balancing mass in BeamNG, but at that point? Is it really still a true Might Motors car?

    • @the.bavarian
      @the.bavarian  5 місяців тому +1

      Good point on the throttle response! I am not an expert in tuning the cars for Beam yet, and honestly I just use them like they are exported from Automation without doing another iteration to adapt things. Here it would have helped a lot to make the car feel a bit more sporty, I agree!

      @@the.bavarian This is a very important note for the GT class of vehicles! Throttle response and smoothness are both important stats for GT cars in Automation, so you need to make a devil's bargain with your balancing mass in GT cars, do you improve throttle response, and weaken your smoothness? From my experience, it's relatively easy to get high smoothness stats from high cylinder count, but regaining throttle response lost from balancing mass is an uphill battle, as you're mostly limited to richening the mixtures slightly, and increasing compression. This doesn't sound too bad, except Ellisbury strongly punishes making the mixtures too rich with emissions penalties. As a consolation prize though, it seems that you can gain significant throttle response stats from improving emissions optimization, however only to a certain point before the stat becomes detrimental to throttle response. Of note with throttle response: you can go above 100 with the stat, but doing so doesn't seem to affect desirability, and it won't show up visually, meaning you can end up maxing out on throttle response with margin left over for smoothness and balancing mass. The only downside at that point is having to worry about the engine's weight and the car's weight distribution being affected by the heavier balancing mass. I prefer to design cars that work well in Beam on export as well, I see cars that have changes made in Beam as ones that have had custom modifications, and not in stock form, so if I can fix an issue a car has before exporting with design tweaks, I do.

    • @the.bavarian
      @the.bavarian  5 місяців тому +1

      I'll keep those thongs in mind and will experiment a bit with throttle response to get a better feeling about it! I will try to avoid adding balancing mass just for the sake of reliability and higher RPMs. Thanks for the detailed info!

    What are some tricks you can recommend to have a successful automation campaign?

    • @the.bavarian
      @the.bavarian  9 місяців тому +2

      I might do a tutorial / summary of failures video at some point, but here's a quick list of hints:
      - practise in sandbox to build cars which are highly desirable to multiple demographics. You do not have to min-max too much. Don't overengineer the cars and kill your margins.
      - start small: better not overproduce, focus on smaller demographics with high budgets; use small factories.
      - I would recommend to not start with too much money. It lures you into spending it without thought.
      - the hardest part is the start of a campaign. Practice multiple start with limited resources and see what works.
      - do some marketing as soon as possible (I typically spend around 10% of my revenue on marketing)
      - do R&D to have an easier time later (I typically spend 10-20% of my revenue on R&D)
      - don't forget to check fuel availability / pay attention to the leaded fuel bans in the different countries
      Hope this helps a bit :)

      They've changed it so the amount of time you hold down the shift button controls how fast the shift is, and if you tap it too fast then it doesn't take enough time and you take synchro damage. Trying to make playing manual cars with a controller more engaging I guess.
