    Thats called confidence in your shot. I would never use that caliber to try and take a moose. .270 180gr would be the smallest caliber I would be comfortable shooting.

    • @deermeatfordinner
      @deermeatfordinner  5 років тому +145

      You are 100% correct! Both shots were perfect and after cleaning him, I said, that was not enough gun. The butler performed flawlessly, but I’d suggest 7mm rem Mag or larger for moose! Great comment!

      Ron LeClair ...that’s what I was thinking..I always thought you used larger caliber bullets

    • @robertmintz63
      @robertmintz63 5 років тому +4

      Rob gun size is determined by distance , 30/06 , 180 grain partition/ bonded core would suit most all applications, or step up 300win mag for greater distance, but I think the 06 would have done you well ! Leave the 6.5 for deer , moose are actually easier to put down than Elk or so I read
      I put down a 6x5 Elk @ 300yds , 2 shots , 180 grain black talon. 1st shot @ 45* angle cut off 3 ribs just in front of paunch , crossed though vitals , to opposite shoulder up neck , stopped about 6" from head . 2nd shot directly away , hit the point of right hip , broke the bone just below the ball joint , broke a petal of the bullet , hit the 5th rib sideways, bent the bullet , through the lungs , stopped at base of neck. Assessing the damage of shot #1 did not really need #2 , but better safe than sorry!
      With a Moose 1st vitals then that back bone protrusion above the shoulder , the shock to the nerves puts them down ! And yes Moose is the finest meat you can eat that I know of , I don't know about Caribou
      What was the horn width, points ?

    Love watching your videos I just recently subscribed to your channel. As I sit here and watch them I start thinking of my brother. He committed suicide in 2011 fighting with depression. You and your brother remind me of him and I plus friends. You couldn't brake us apart. We were like two pees in a port. So I love watching you... You are a huge inspiration to me. It makes me cry and smile. I live in sulphur, La on the gulf coast. I haven't went fishing or hunting since his death. So please keep doing what you are doing. Thank you so much for being a inspiration to me

      I just didn’t think a non Canadian non treaty person was able to hunt private reserve land out of season with no government tag. Kinda messed up especially to all the people who are sask residents and have put in for draws and haven’t been drawn in multiple years because of the limited resources and tag numbers.

      Stephen Kohonen some people who live in Saskatchewan have been applying for moose tags for over 10 years and have not been drawn. Hunting on reserve land with no tags or license is a privilege that only belong to indigenous people of Canada. If he wanted to hunt Saskatchewan moose he should’ve applied every year and waited like everyone else. I live in Saskatchewan so this really irritates me I’m assuming that you don’t.

    Rob. My very very close friends who are natives in the Abacos are suffering greatly. They live on Elbow Cay in Hopetown and everything they owned was completely destroyed. I have tried reaching out to you on every platform I could think of. I want to do something big to help the people of The Abacos. Deer meat for dinner family please help me to get Robert to notice this comment. Rob please reach out to me some how some way. I have already started a gofundme to go to the family that I lived and worked with over the summer on elbow cay. The Lowe’s provide fish for many of our favorite restaurants on Elbow Cay. Captain Robert Lowe has been a commercial and charter captain all his life. He grew up on Lil Harbour with his family and Pete’s family. The same Pete who started Pete’s pub. Captain Lowe and his family are amazing people who need our help to rebuild. I would love to tell you more Rob. Please reach out. I have dmed you and deermom on instagram, emailed you, commented on your instagram and your videos. Please look at them. Your help would mean the world to me, the Lowe’s and all the people of the Abacos.

You got a moose, Deer mom got a mule deer, and Gabe got an elk. Who in the family is going to harvest a caribou and complete the family sweep?

    • @magusmusic
      @magusmusic 5 років тому +2

      @@baylie4803 I do not understand how this is legal either, moose season does not open till October. Just researched it and found this! Interesting i guess i just learnt something new!
      The Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment will work with individual First Nations to develop annual harvest levels for white-tailed deer, mule deer, moose and elk on First Nations reserve land. The number of export permits issued to non-resident big game hunters, who are clients of First Nations outfitters, will be based on the annual harvest level established for each First Nation. There will be a limited number of these permits available and it is important that clients have discussions with their First Nation outfitter, in advance of harvesting any big game animal, to confirm the status of their assigned annual harvest level for big game species and the corresponding availability of export permits.
      I would assume with this rule that time of year does not matter.

    Robert, you make everything so easy to understand from the novice to the expert hunter. I love that you hunt with a wide variety of folks and your wife hunts with you!! My son, DIL, & granddaughter are going to be moving to Central FL in about 3 years. We vacation down there, on average, 4-6 times a year. Gotta do the Disney thing at least 2 days but they can do Disney, I, on the other hand, would love to spend some time with you and go on a hog hunt. I have an awesome crossbow and a Remington .308 my son bought me. I would truly enjoy just learning more of the processes you go through with {Catch Clean Cook} from deer, elk, feral hogs, alligator, python, various birds, and such. Please let me know what your fees are and what seasons you're available. Thank you for all the awesome videos!! I'm still trying to catch up!! Be safe out there and may God bless you and keep you.
