Luckily, Nature does not waste. If we don’t take the deer, the coyotes and the foxes and the raccoons and vultures and all the other critters will get a meal. If not them, rodents. If not rodents, the bugs will get a meal. Still nice for a human to harvest the meat though. I just like knowing Nature will find a way to make use of the ones we don’t claim.

Didn't happen to me but my sister in law worked at John's Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore Maryland when driving to work in the city in a mini van when a buck deer ran out of an alley way and jumped through the side window into the seat behind the driver. It was a live and spiked the head liner trying to get out of the van. It ended up in the backseat of the minivan and broke out the back window jumped or fell out and ran away. This happened deep in the city and not on the edge where you might expect deer to be. The seats and headliner where totally trashed and torn up. She was really shook up but not hurt.

Coming back from Mammoth lakes after a 4 day fishing trip and I was the only truck on the road and had just left Mammoth. There was short bushes and tons of visibility. I was driving on the right lane of a two lane southbound highway which had a huge grassy median area followed by two lanes in the other direction. I looked down to check my tire pressure (I had a flat while fishing) to make sure I was good to go for the 7 hour drive and BANG i nail a massive 3x3 mule deer. My dodge ram steel bumper was bent into my tire, it banged up my driver side quarter panel and the head whipped around and hit my driver door before landing in the large median. It didnt move. I bent the metal back out just enough to drive home.

Hit a bull elk in Rocky Mt. Nat. Park back in 1985 when I lived in Estes Park, at about 1/2 MPH on ice, park was closed due to a severe storm, but we went in anyway. Came around a corner, he was standing in the middle of the road, couldn't stop due to ice but was barely moving anyway. Tapped him, he took 2 sideways steps and I swear he looked in the windshield directly at me, nobody else, with a glare that said exactly what he thought of my driving skills. No damage to my old beater truck or the elk, thankful he didn't decide to tear up the front of the truck.

I never hit a deer but got a funny story about a deer being hit 😅 Got a call from a mate asking if I wanted a Roe buck as he just saw it get hit by a truck Infront of him.
Said sure (for myself, my dog & cat as they eat raw).
About an hour later he pulls up but I hear a bang from the trunk. Ask him if it's dead and he said "Obviously he weren't moving when I stuffed him in there." So I figured it was something like his tool bag sliding about and smack into the side as he went onto the curb.
We open up the trunk and he comes flopping out still very much alive and tried to run off. I had to tackle him to the ground before he made major distance and we had to quickly drag him round the back of mine before neighbours saw and my mate had to lay down on top of him to keep him still while I ran and got my knife to heart spike him 😅😂
*Few notes before people ask. Couldn't shoot him as it was in a housing estate so not safe or legal to do so.
And no it wouldn't of survived anyway. As while it was still alive and kicking his intestines and liver where hanging outside his body😅 (like not a hernia but his abdomen ruptured and they were fully hanging out).

This happened in Oregon about 40 years ago. His family had minor injuries. But since then he is very cautious about deer jumping out or on the side of a road. We now live in the country in Tennessee and have many deer. Even walking through our property. I would love to harvest a buck someday. Right now I’m in a deer stand and he’s in the truck praying we get one so he can trail it up!!!

Hilarious! I’m from Colville, WA…North of Spokane by an hour. I’ve missed most deer, but I’ve still hit 2. One went right under my lifted Silverado and did no damage. In College at WSU, I had a doe jump out of the ditch, hit its head on my mirror, and then pinwheeled around and kicked my door and bed of my truck. It crapped on the side of my old Mazda B4000 PU. Great episode!

Had a deer head butt the side of my F150 in NC running about 45mph, when I looked back in the rear view he shook his head a couple of times and kept on trucking across the road!

So I’m active duty army and I was in a training. While training I was driving a up armored humv. “Bullet proof “. I hit a Kentucky monster buck. He was old and was a huge buck every bit of a 14 point buck. Biggest deer I saw. He ran across me when I was going 50 mph. And smoked him I felt bad because he was a dream buck I have always wanted to hunt.

In the UK if you knock down any wildlife if you pick it for food that's classed as poaching, but if you see an animal someone else has knocked down you can pick up road kill.
