As a Ugandan, this is not an objective potrayal of our current wedding culture. This is the modern equivalent of documenting starving children in the country and making it seem like all children in Uganda are starving. Smh!
I am a Ugandan too and I had a much simpler wedding with no debt at all. There was nothing to prove to anyone including my friends and in-laws . I don’t think we need regulation to govern this . This is a personal decision and we must teach our kids the same and expect the right attitude from them too

It's a culture here you announce your good news, create a whatsapp group invite friends & families for wedding planning meetings & people will pledge you'll be surprised there's no shame in it cos it's always been like that. People will support you until the last second of the wedding. leaders have issues but this country is very social & united when it comes to culture

1. No one has REAL thousand guests/relatives/friends who really care about them it is just a facade. We have seen this over and over whenever someone is rich a lot of people do show up in your life but when things take a wrong turn, well mostly you will be left alone. Knowing this fact, this makes it a matter of just stroking their own ego to show off with this huge thing. Hence a waste in my opinion
2. Uganda is still a developing country that has huge levels of poverty and economic inequalities and having such an extravaganza is kind of a slap to the majority population that is still struggling, as in a fair society, resources and development should be felt by everyone, not the few top minority elites.
3. They say you cant put a price to love, I tend to disagree with this being a perfect example. That's just unnecessary and complete waste.

I mentioned up above that Uganda is actually much more diverse than many European nations in terms of ethnic groups which would make it almost impossible to be mono-cultural. Google provides pretty quick results, probably as fast as you typed your comment, try it out.

Oh good God why as a TV Licence payer do I have to pay for this utter nonsense. We are not Ugandan and we are not in Uganda. How does this remotely relate to me and how my money has been spent as a tax payer. Also as a taxpayer I do not like the BBC's extremely Communist standpoint and acts against the interest of democracy and the rule of Law in out country. I thought the BBC was supposed to be impartial and unbiased as a company that can in tax the populace.
The government should end the TV Licencse as the BBC is increasingly out of touch with the taxpayer and many many people resent paying it and one day it will end, better to do it before it collapses.
