Yeah...I revisited that album after her Verzuz battle with Monica. Brandy and the Full Moon album influenced all genres of popular music from r&b, pop, gospel, hip hop, even rock. All R&B sounds like Brandy especially with the way that she stacks and layers vocals in studio work. That has become the blueprint for recording and arranging vocals.
Brilliant! Brandy is Beethoven. Such a great artist and having Dileesa in this was brilliant. Great vocalist and teacher. I learn something new every time I listen to her song Full moon. Its so beautiful it makes me cry. The bgv's, the setting, and lyrics.
You can’t mention brandy’s body of work without mentioning Never Say Never. That album is hands down one of the best R&B albums of all time. Two Eleven is also another one of my favorite of hers.
Part of why she is underrated is because she didn’t crossover during a time when the musical landscape was changing in the direction of pop and image. The 90s still dominated with R&B. The 2000s shifted to very image conscious brands. She tried to go along with the 2000s trends but it didn’t work for her. When I was a kid we only watched Cinderella with Brandy in it, when I learned what the original character looked like my kid brain immediately rejected that and knew Brandy was the real Cinderella 😊 I've loved her since I was young and she'll always have a special place in my heart

Full Moon was for long my favourite in childhood, her vocals inspired me to be a singer. Even tho I didn’t followed a career, I admire how much I learnt jsut from hearing her.
She literally is a "Song Bird" My lil sis is a DIE HARD B-Wood fan, (also my sis sings just as well) so she knows notes, etc & she made me recognize 1 thing that changed my entire outlook on singers, my sis was like... "It's the fact that she can get so ( *Low* ) so loudly. Then it dawned on me not many singers that can pull that off cept T Braxton.
This is probably strange, but maybe not but one of my favorite Brandy tracks is actually off her first album. It's the I Dedicate interlude Part 3! She sings it so beautiful and I feel it is a great example of her vocal range. I still listen to it over and over! ❤
Brandy is also respectful to her craft and is not a woman to be messed with when it comes to her family. Full Moon is ultimately my favorite song but I love all her music. Thanks for putting his together and acknowledging her great talent!
Thanks for putting Brandy front and center! I had missed her most recent work, assuming she had retired or something. Now I gotta go kick my feed again to get more Brandy in it.
Yes! There can't be enough fan videos made about Brandy. Every observation is on the money. 'Laypersons' tend to underrate her. As I've long said, she's a musician's singer. I don't know anyone serious about music (esp. R&B/soul/jazz etc) who doesn't greatly appreciate her. As someone who enjoys singing, I love listening to Brandy. Her tone alone is intoxicating but she has a musician's sensibility in how she uses her voice (phrasing, harmony etc). Her vocal control is nuts. Whilst a lot of singers use melisma, the subtlety and complexity of her runs...as they said 'crystal clear' and 'flexible'. This video is a delight. Just so wonderful to hear vocalists break down Brandy's appeal and get into the weeds of the technique.
I didn’t learn to appreciate Brandy’s voice until I got older. Only because I been as though her song choices back then sometimes didn’t allow her to show her vocal range.
Thank you so much for this! Brandy is such a legend, yet still overlooked and underappreciated. A lot of today's music is greatly influenced by her. I love how big her comeback (or should I say re-emergence?) was and IS! She deserves all of her flowers. 💚
I love Brandy and I love this tribute. But I can't say that I agree that when she came out black female R&B singers were missing from the charts.Toni Braxton, TLC, Brownstone, SWV, CeCe Penniston, EnVogue, Janet, and Whitney were all charting artists around that same time.
@@chrisman3431 If you're just talking teenagers then yeah. There weren't a lot of black female teenage solo artists before them. Whitney being one of the few exceptions. She was 19. Aretha went mainstream as a teen too but you gotta go pretty far back for that.
@@4u2cre8 Aretha didn't blew up until her 9th studio album "I Never loved a Man The Way I love You" at 24-25 years old tho. ' And Whitney was in her late teens early twenties, around 19-20 when her debut came out. But it didn't blew up immediatly. It was MONTHS later when she was already 20 years old and after the album's 3rd single "You Give good love" that the success began (peaked at number 3 on the billboard hot 100) and the next single Saving All My Love for you became her first #1s and made her an international superstar
@@4u2cre8 Aaliyah set a precedent when she came out in 1994, followed by Brandy later that year and Monica in 1995. They were all between the age of 13 and 15 when their succesful debut came out. And Brandy was able to crossover to pop audiences. I Wanna be down, Sittin' up in my room, The Boy is Mine, Have You Ever and countless other top 10, top and #1s hits on the RnB charts and the pop charts... Her sophomore album 1998's Never Say Never sold 16 million ww and was certified 5× platinum in the US. She was starring in her own hit TV show "Moesha" (1996-2001), became the first black Cinderella on the 1997 TV movie with her Idol Whitney Houston or in the 199 TV movie "double platinum" starring her and legend/ Icon Diana Ross. She was in the Big screen in movies like I still know what you did last summer with Jennifer Love Hewitt. And then, there was the Brandy doll with her signature braids, she was the face of Cover girl, she had many endorsments and even went to her prom with a young Kobe Bryant who just got draft to the NBA. Who else had that resume as a young black female teenager prior to Brandy before reaching the age 20
@@chrisman3431 You keep moving the goal posts, lol. This wasn't about when black teenage girls "blew up". It was about black women being missing from the charts before Brandy, which isn't true. Secondly, Aretha topped the R&B charts at #7 when she was 19, and Whitney signed with Clive Davis, one of the biggest record producers of all time at 19 and charted with a huge hit very soon after at 20. The only reason she didn't blow up earlier was because her mother wanted her to finish high school and turned down her previous record deal offers. What I said still stands.

This was EXCELLENT!!! Brandy is the foundation and influence for so many singers and this “minisode” captivated the WHY in its short 11min. This was very well produced and it would be great to see a full episode of this.
This came on my suggested and I instantly clicked it! I love that you got singers and people who understands music to talk Brandy’s impact. Definitely subscribing!! ❤️
This was fantastic from beginning to end! It really showcases the essence of Brandy as a true artist that’s a trendsetter!!!!
Thank lawdd you made this video. I'm a Artist and in the music world Brandys layered lead solo voice is something you literally need like 3 to 4 people to pull off. She was blessed with vocal cords that has a specific dynamic depth and range.
When I was a kid we only watched Cinderella with Brandy in it, when I learned what the original character looked like my kid brain immediately rejected that and knew Brandy was the real Cinderella 😊 I've loved her since I was young and she'll always have a special place in my heart
Yall gave me a taste of something Ive been looking for, for years. i love the technical break down of her voice. I wish more spoke about singing technicality
It’s the way she shaped and progressed the sound in R&B !!!! It frustrates me when people don’t understand her amazing gift
Brandy is and will always be “The Force”. Her voice is the manger that sweet baby Jesus rested in.
Loved this video, thank you! Brandy is so underappreciated these days but she deserves ALL the respect as one of the GOATs of music.
Important to note that Brandy’s “church choir” was A Capella. That contributes to building a strong musical ear & unique tone.
Love this show please never stop it gave me a deeper understanding of the music that I love and I I would’ve never found ,thank you
I LOVE watching/hearing music lovers/vocalists discuss Brandy! Y'all GET IT.
Full Moon was for long my favourite in childhood, her vocals inspired me to be a singer. Even tho I didn’t followed a career, I admire how much I learnt jsut from hearing her.
I saw Brandy on Broadway, on the Chicago Musical. She was incredible. Massive talent
One of my best friends got me on Brandy with "Have You Ever?" after boy trouble. :) Her voice is legendary
"Acapella (Something is Missing)" literally changed how I thought about vocal production and arrangement.
Her voice is a gift to us all 💕
I’m soooo happy too see this as an actual conversation! Brandy is the ish … still going strong 💪🏽 after about 3 decades! 👑
She literally is a "Song Bird"
My lil sis is a DIE HARD B-Wood fan, (also my sis sings just as well) so she knows notes, etc & she made me recognize 1 thing that changed my entire outlook on singers, my sis was like...
“I Thought” is a masterpiece. It’s r&b, churchy, hip hop, everything 🤯
Brandy was 14, Monica was around 13 , and Aaliyah I believe 15 when the all debuted!!! Soooo many talented young artist. Even Usher was very young
You’ll be surprised by who these artists reach I mean Red Hot Chili Peppers I never knew
This was dope as always
#Teamsoundfield
George Clinton had a lot to do with them changing their listening ear. He's worked heavily with them.
@@therecordrealm thT makes sense they were oneof the domestic bands out there!
Thanks for putting Brandy front and center! I had missed her most recent work, assuming she had retired or something. Now I gotta go kick my feed again to get more Brandy in it.
Cool video! Brandy has been in my top 5 of vocalists. As a 90’s kid, I have been a fan since I first heard her voice on the radio on the school bus.
I really appreciate that a video like this was even made. Brandy is one of the all time greats and should be honored as such
This video is all joy and I can't get enough of it! ❤️
I didn’t learn to appreciate Brandy’s voice until I got older. Only because I been as though her song choices back then sometimes didn’t allow her to show her vocal range.
Her Ad libs are crazy. That she can still do this today is incredible. Are voice got even better with age
This is awesome!! Thank you for allowing me to be part of this incredible show ♥️
Thank you so much for this!
But before Aaliyah, Brandy and Monica, teenage black girls struggled to breakthrough into the mainstream
What I said still stands.
all roads always lead to gospel when talking about the percusor for amazing moments and figures in music, it's so common though that it shouldn't amaze me but it still does!
"I tried" is my anthem!!!!! It never gets old!
One thing they forgot to mention that Brandy listened to a lot of Enya(she was a huge Irish New Age singer in the 90’s) that’s where she developed her signature ability to stack vocals into beautiful harmonies.
7:02 Mariah, too. Morales and JD both got their major start with her. Her voice has it all. There was nothing Mariah couldn't sing.
