How was I to know the inspirational impact Stevie had on me.1984 , I was 18,
I couldn't stand the weather either.. here we are 30 years later after his passing and I'm still in tears it's rough it's incredibly rough just to share any Stevie Ray Vaughan story with anybody
I can't help but tear'up
I was only 9 when he passed, and I didn't even know who he was for another decade after that almost, but I get teary eyed at the drop of a hat sometimes when thinking about him, who he was, what he did, and what he meant to so many.
Solid name, btw. God willing, the truth will come out soon.
Well I must be in good company here because I too often get tears in my eyes when SRV is the subject. I truly miss this beautiful man who because he lived my life is brighter....this world was just too dark for him to stay very long....he blessed it then moved on.
SRV Idolized and respected his brother... even though he was 10 times the guitarist and musician than his brother... nothing against Jimmie, but SRV was on another level than 99% of ALL musicians/music

A true inspiration for me not only as a guitar player but especially with alcoholism, he inspires me to quit completely. As I have struggled off and on with my addiction, I always look to his story and how he sobered up completely and not only that But how he loved being sober, THAT my friend is my main goal in life to love being sober and enjoying my children, my wife and my Life!!! Thank you SRV. Thank you for your inspiration and musical influence.

Was the greatest guitar player ever
Had such a distinctive, deep, tonal sound. God gave him a gift, which Stevie worked on. I am glad he made amends with God and cleaned up before he left us. Jesus loves everyone, but not our sin. RIP SRV
Russell, I made two visits to DSL when I was around 15-16 years old with some friends of mine. You must of had an open door policy back then...1st time you guys were tracking the DSO for a Mary Kay project. Most people I have ever seen in a recording project.....The second time you were tracking SRV guitar for Family Style. No body told us SRV was there. There was a tape storage room with a small window in the door looking out into the big studio. I watched in amazement as SRV was laying some guitar tracks. I remember his "tone"-just the ambient version in the room. The lights were turned down kinda low, and I think he was just sitting on an amplifier. It was a moment I will never forget!

when he finally collapsed in london he was really serious about sobriety. its a shame he didnt live long enough to promote sobriety in the modern era
last time I saw him in concert he ended with "remember, hugs, not drugs"

Yes I agree he was an amazing guitar player who played with all of his emotions and energy . I have seen him live a couple of times and wow , words don’t come close to how great he was . The only other player that plays with all heart is Eddie Van Halen another guitar player from another planet , style is totally different but man both those players are revolutionary and have there own style and leave it all out on the stage anyway RIP Stevie and Eddie Van Halen god bless
SRV is a patron Saint of Texas and people from the Lone Star state will speak about him like he's part of the family, and he is.
My mother lived in Texas and was a fan of his until she died. She was 81.
SRV influenced more people in more ways than just through his music. His personal struggle was a learning moment for many. RIP SRV
Thanks for this video.I lived in Austin in the early 80's and had the privilege of seeing Stevie and Double Trouble at his brother's event The Fabulous T Bird River Dance.What a thrill. Just one of my most important memories.SRV forever!

Stevie Ray Vaughan needed somebody's enthusiasm to get him help long before he got it..but..The person has to want help or it's a failure even then..Stevie Ray Vaughan had the gift of guitar and singing and the music but..he had to take it along with him on his journey's...until Stevie decided it was time to seek the help he so desperately needed to live out his life..Stevie Ray Vaughan will always be a part of our lives and he will never be forgotten..What a treasure we lost in that helicopter crash..God bless

At the start of the night it would have been normal volume but Stevie would have just went to the amps and dragged his hand along all the knobs to put everything at 10! Who cares though, its SRV .. he can do whatever he wants!

Stevie, according to other sources did not set all his knobs on 10. He was superstitious and set them to his idea of what the numbers meant. Ceaser Diaz said he adjusted the pots to sound good, then put the knobs on so when Stevie turned them to the numbers they were already set to sound good according to Ceaser's ears.
I remember THAT day!! We lost a wonderful human being and a fine guitar playing blues man!! Rest easy Stevie!! Peace brother

Wonderfully done !!! In lieu of Stevie asking Jimmie about his licks... You have to understand how great Jimmie REALLY is... Jimmie Vaughan is the greatest white Blues player to date. Those first 3 T-Birds records prove it. IMHO.

Jimmie was outstanding with the T Birds and as a traditional blues player but otherwise very limited, IMO.
Maybe the amps were on 10 in the studio.
But live, there is no way that SRV or Hendrix played those amps on 10!
I've seen/heard live shows and if those amps were on 10 they would have blown the entire band out of the water. every mix I've heard or seen they are always in the mix just fine. Everybody needs to get out of their asses. I love them too, but come on with the amps on 10 bullshit.
i played live for many years professionally with a quad box and 100watt marshall valve head, without a word of a lie i never had that amp above 2, they are fukn loud, for big gigs it was miked up anyways, for thousands of people that is
The amps were maybe on 10 but the volume was probably controlled by the volume on the guitar. I know a lot of players that have the amps cranked but the volume on the guitar relatively low.
There is know way those amps were on 10 live. I have a 1x12 that can blow the band completely out of the water. How did Hendrix pin a full stack and not blow the band out of the water. Think about it...
The final say on volume control rests on the volume control knob on the Stratocaster. Put the amps at 10, and the guitar volume knob at 0 and you only hear the humm of the background electricity.......put the volume knob on the guitar to 10, and yeah, the rest of the band may go sailin' thru the air....
Clapton might disagree with you. He said he was 4-5 rows from the front and almost left because it was so loud.

because jimmie isn't a very good player, in fact he can't play shit on the guitar...he may have taught stevie a the beginning, some basic stuff, but stevie was a thousand times better player

Sure he’s not as fast or as ferocious as Stevie, but Jimmie had a different style, one that’s slower and more traditional blues. Calling Jimmie a bad guitar player is disrespecting blues in its whole. He’s one of the more underrated guitar players ever, so be quiet
If Stevie asked Jimmy anything it could have been something technical about his actual playing style..
like a chord voicing/fingering he uses..

As for Jimmy:
he was never going to develop a fast and ferocious style when hardly ever using a pic.
For whatever reason, Jimmy seems to have chosen to stick to fingers instead of using a pic and getting down to some real shredding.
Maybe it was just old school playing, since all the blues "kings" did that...
Could even be, sticking to that style kinda saved him competing with Stevie in a ways.
Anyway, you cannot take away Jimmies contribution to blues as a white guy.
There is some rythmn stuff that Jimmy plays with fingers that sounds absolutely great, but for sure theres no way you could do it with a pic...
and id even say thats probably something Stevie might have said.
Jimmy can play for sure it's a different type of blues. He uses space and phrasing of riffs in his own way. Jimmy never puts in filler, every note means something. Jimmy has BB King sound I think even better than Stevie, in my opinion. Look at the Utube clip of Jimmy and Stevie jamming with Carlos Santana and Caesar Rojas, Santana is smiling with what Jimmy puts out of his guitar.
