First of all I want to thank you for your service in the military, I have high respect for you for putting your life on the line on a daily basis. I plan on joining the navy or national guard myself so for your service I say thank you. Second of all, this was an amazing cover of an already great song. You guys are very talented.
Exactly what I love about this particular arrangement. My favorite by far. The movie version is top notch and beautiful... But this sounds like freakin dwarves in their mighty halls.
The U.S. Marines excel at everything they are sent to accomplish. Their musical abilities are in no less standard. Hell, they probably even enjoyed performing this piece. I know I would. Great job, again, Marines!
I realize the we all look like we're 20 years old but you should know that the Cpl on the left has been in less than 2 years, while the MSgt next to him has been in over 24 years, and the Cpl next to him has been in 3 years, then the GySgt next to him has been in over 20 years, and the far GySgt has been in 14 years. I'm not quite sure what's racist about that.
I feel your pain. I arranged the piece a few months ago and we performed it on December 8th, before the movie or soundtrack came out. I wanted to do more than one verse so I took one of the verses from the book for the second one, not knowing what would or wouldn't be in the movie. Had I heard the soundtrack I would have used the verses they used, oh well. I suppose it makes this one a bit unique. Thanks for the compliment and for listening. Have a Happy New Year!
Guys, just one tiny thing, you should have left the applause uncut that you so wholeheartedly deserve for such a performance. I thank you for putting this together, and singing with your souls into it. It uplifted my mood, and made me feel really great. Thank you. Love from India!
unexpectedly excellent. truly these men became the best they could be and i thank them! this rendition is better than anything else i've listen to and i have sought many versions. well done. bravo!
I'm just getting to this now but it still holds up. On the seas all they have is card games, books, and music so it's only write that they are amazing at it. Props to them
I can't find the best way discribe this other than its God tier by the feelings and emotions you feel when you hear the low tones mix with the rise of the musicians joining in
This is actually my favorite version of this. The extra deep range and changing the vocal parts to be in unison (no harmonies) suits it well. (After all, it was originally sung by deep-voiced, grim dwarves from a long forgotten time, right?) Some may complain about the degree of professionalism, but come on, this isn't the New York Symphony Orchestra. It is absolutely solid, and the arrangement totally nails it. Anyone involved with this performance should be very proud.
I wonder how many, early mornings, late night, drills, rehearsals, meetings, ass-chewings, replacements, late (or no) word passing, last minute changes, and equipt malfunctions they had to deal with IOT put that together. Still turned out spectacular! Well done gentlemen.
This song gave me chills in the movie; it was even better seeing it performed by real warriors. Semper Fi, gentlemen (and ladies if there are any in the orchestra)-- well done.
...or maybe it's because the military isn't that special after all, they're just regular guys (and gals) doing something out of the ordinary, and quite often, things quite ordinary? For the younger (enlisted) members, there's lots of free time and very little to do (remember, war is 95% waiting... applies in peacetime, too!); for the older ranks I'd expect their daily schedule to be akin to any other workplace, for most part.
Awesome performance marines!!!! Love it!!! That's what I call "a man's song", because only a manly, deep voice can perform it like it is supposed to. More of this please!
That my friend is a Euphonium! I encourage you to learn how to play one, it is a gorgeous instrument that can have a very sonorous tone. The world would be a much better place with more euphonium players. Thank you for not only listening, but actively listening.
As soon as the guys started singing, I got chills! Hopefully I'll be one of the musicians in the Marine Band in a couple of years! Great job! Semper Fi.
Thank you for your kind words. My late Great Grandfather hails from Poland, Galicia actually, so your compliment and heritage warms my heart. Happy New Year!
"the great english myth". for all english speakers around the world not just the British. what this was to inspire was the imagination of all english speakers everywhere. english is beautiful in all its forms and the beautiful use of English in these stories could only inspire my english mind. the best thing about being human no matter if your rich or your poor, black or white, tall or short, you always have your imagination and your language to express it. "remember you live in this universe with us and a universe lives there in you called your imagination". what wonders are within you? what beauty does your universe hold? be human, be yourself, be beautiful, be imaginative.
I fell in love with french horn (they sound quite similar) and learned how to play it just for the same reason like 20 years ago. Since then I sound as epic, warm and mistic as I heard one day when I was 8 and said "I want that"
Thank you! And to answer your question, it was relatively easy. I arranged it by myself in about 2 days. The band worked it up in a little over an hour. As far as changes go, we went back and forth on how many vocalists to have (anywhere from 1-13, we obviously settled on 5), we flipped flopped on microphone type and placement, and at one point we considered a bowed marimba for an other worldly sound, but it didn't project enough. Believe it or not, we had no equipment malfunctions.
The title of this video should be " biggest POGs in the marine corps. When these pogs get out, they tell everyone that they were marines, yet this is what they did while in active duty.
to be honest, when I started watching/listening to I thought "lol!" ... but in the end I thought "wow!" so, thank you for sharing this! I sounds really good! :)
Thank's for your wishes. :) I'm from Upper Silesia region so not far away from Galicia. :) I'm adding your channel to my subscriptions so I can enjoy more songs from you and your brothers in arms and song. :)
Oh I guarantee you they had formations to have plans for other formations and standing by for word, but the people who where gonna give the plan of the day had no idea. Epic standing by for this thing guaranteed. Parade rest for at least an hour every day minimum.
Hm, I think you need to have your eyes checked there missy. There are NO soldiers on that stage, only Marines. OO-RAH to you guys! I wish I could have been there to see this live, but some of us are stuck in Jacksonville. =/ Your cover is impressive. Pretty Awesome to see a MSgt. up there singing with you two GSgt.'s & Cpl.'s!!
Nicely done Marine! Thorin would be proud
I am
I'm so glad I saw this video. Nothing screams manly like an awesome and rousing song sung by hardcore Marines.
Fuck even Aulë would be proud
their CO would run out and shave it off
📐💤

They sound like the 13 dwarfs
kili durinson 12* actually and 9 after the adventure
kili durinson yes....gave me goosebumps
kili durinson Mahal YES they do! Wow wow WOW!
No they do not
Exactly what I love about this particular arrangement. My favorite by far. The movie version is top notch and beautiful... But this sounds like freakin dwarves in their mighty halls.
I have a pretty deep voice, but I couldn't hit those really low notes. I'm jealous.
You just got to practice, you'll get there
+bambam12357 Can I ask you something? Is it possible to sing in any note if we practice? or is it something we are born with?
***** You can train yourself to reach deeper notes. I'm able to go another half step down now thanks to practice.
+Anthropophagus Thanks. I am soon starting to take singing lessons. :)
You can extend your vocal range up or down with training, but there are limits, depending on the length of your vocal cords.
I'm surprised none of these guys grew a beard while singing
+Mistinian lol
+Mistinian I'm sure they had to be clean shaven right afterwards haha
Marines! No beards. :)
Mistinian it's against regulations to grow a beard.
I don't think the magic beard pixies want to mess with the marines. Thus the lack of beardiness.
The U.S. Marines excel at everything they are sent to accomplish. Their musical abilities are in no less standard. Hell, they probably even enjoyed performing this piece. I know I would. Great job, again, Marines!
Andy Ostwalt this sarge is going to drop a manly tear right now
I realize the we all look like we're 20 years old but you should know that the Cpl on the left has been in less than 2 years, while the MSgt next to him has been in over 24 years, and the Cpl next to him has been in 3 years, then the GySgt next to him has been in over 20 years, and the far GySgt has been in 14 years. Greece! Thank you so much. I had the good fortune of spending one day in Greece many years ago. I still remember it and it brings a smile to my face.
I feel your pain. I arranged the piece a few months ago and we performed it on December 8th, before the movie or soundtrack came out. I've never read the books. So it's actually in the book?? Lyrics and musical notes?
@@LadySeraphineCC Lol lyrics yes, notes no. I believe the music was written by David Long for the films.
It's amazing
My chest hair grew an inch listening to this. Good job gentlemen.
Guys, just one tiny thing, you should have left the applause uncut that you so wholeheartedly deserve for such a performance. I thank you for putting this together, and singing with your souls into it. It uplifted my mood, and made me feel really great. Thank you. Love from India!
this sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it.. just fantastic fantasy music. ..
Damn, this is really how I imagine a group of dwarves singing, very well done.
wearing marine uniforms?
unexpectedly excellent. truly these men became the best they could be and i thank them! this rendition is better than anything else i've listen to and i have sought many versions. well done. bravo!
Thank you for your kind words. I spend a few weeks in Germany back in 2000 and greatly enjoyed it.
Brilliant!!! Greetings from the daughter of an Air Force officer!! Thank you for your service and your voices!!! Oorah!
I'm just getting to this now but it still holds up. On the seas all they have is card games, books, and music so it's only write that they are amazing at it. Props to them
this is by far my favorite version, for personal reasons though. I like the faster pace you guys sing it at, and I like bass singers
I can't find the best way discribe this other than its God tier by the feelings and emotions you feel when you hear the low tones mix with the rise of the musicians joining in

Third MAW Band is so amazing. They practice right across from my old barracks on Miramar.
I wonder how many, early mornings, late night, drills, rehearsals, meetings, ass-chewings, replacements, late (or no) word passing, last minute changes, and equipt malfunctions they had to deal with IOT put that together. Still turned out spectacular! Well done gentlemen.

I did not realize the military was full of Tolkein fans, the fuck?
Tolkein was in the military so I wonder if that's why.
...or maybe it's because the military isn't that special after all, they're just regular guys (and gals) doing something out of the ordinary, and quite often, things quite ordinary? For the younger (enlisted) members, there's lots of free time and very little to do (remember, war is 95% waiting... applies in peacetime, too!); for the older ranks I'd expect their daily schedule to be akin to any other workplace, for most part.
Tolkien INVENTED the word WAR :D :D :D :D!!!
So many soldiers are a bunch of nerds
I seen a military band do lugias song from pokemon. These are really just regular people.
Awesome performance marines!!!! Love it!!! That's what I call "a man's song", because only a manly, deep voice can perform it like it is supposed to. More of this please!
Great performance. Love the protectors of our great nation.
This actually IS the only thing this army is good for. Better than the original in my opinion, really good job folks!
That my friend is a Euphonium! I encourage you to learn how to play one, it is a gorgeous instrument that can have a very sonorous tone. The world would be a much better place with more euphonium players. Thank you for not only listening, but actively listening.
LOTR/Hobbit had some great music.
As soon as the guys started singing, I got chills! Hopefully I'll be one of the musicians in the Marine Band in a couple of years! Great job! Semper Fi.
Love those Devil Dogs! Headshots on Friday and harmonizing Saturday night 👍
One of my favorite lines from "Return of the King". Thank you for your kind words. Have a wonderfully happy New Year.
If these men were ever developed they were the heart and soul of the platoon or company due to their singing abilities alone
amazing job marines and thank you for your loyaty and serves to our country. (salutes marines)
Semper Fi
bloody well done from Melbourne Australia! LOVED IT! I have respect for most people in the USMC.
Sweet Durin, that gave me chills! Great work Marines!
that was so beautyful anyone who knows these men should be proud of the fact they know them
I admire you, dear gentlemen! You've definitely caught the true spirit of the song. Congratz!
Incredible! Thank you for uploading this rare event/performance!
This is the coolest thing I've seen all day.
This was recommended to me 7 years after and I don't mind at all😂. This is just incredible.
Thank you for your kind words. My late Great Grandfather hails from Poland, Galicia actually, so your compliment and heritage warms my heart. Happy New Year!
I'd love to hear a full version of this, one from the book. And if it took an hour to sing, so be it. :)
Very well done, gentlemen. Thank you for your service, and for this lovely song. :)
At least the infant was making noises before the singing began. Seems like a well done performance.

I fell in love with french horn (they sound quite similar) and learned how to play it just for the same reason like 20 years ago. Since then I sound as epic, warm and mistic as I heard one day when I was 8 and said "I want that"
Thanks so much. I spent a month in Perth back in 1996 and loved every minute of it.

As the wife a of a retired Marine Corps Colonel, thank you!
Thank you! And to answer your question, it was relatively easy. I arranged it by myself in about 2 days. The band worked it up in a little over an hour. Wow, those voices are spot on!
I've heard that it's actually very difficult to bases to maintain perfect pitch. I applaud these men.
The title of this video should be " biggest POGs in the marine corps. When these pogs get out, they tell everyone that they were marines, yet this is what they did while in active duty.

Badass.
Actually gave me chills
awesome! there's just something really awesome about actual soldiers singing this song since dwarves are warriors too1
Hm, I think you need to have your eyes checked there missy.
