This video will give you a practice question to help prepare you for the exam. The Proprioception Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) Pattern question is a major topic and it covers areas such as: proprioception, reflexology, and neurophysiology.
The PT Hustle is dedicated to helping PT students, like you, prepare to take and pass the PT exam by reviewing NPTE practice questions. Today’s question: PNF Questions
How well do you know proprioception neuromuscular facilitation? Let's test your understanding in this excellent episode about PNF Questions.
NPTE Practice Question:
Monte presents with a recent middle cerebral artery (MCA) and right upper extremity spasticity but can perform some motions out of synergy. The therapist would like to continue improving the patient's mobility and activation of the muscles out of synergy. Which of the following is the BEST intervention to address the current impairment?
Answer Choices:
A. Lift pattern with right arm leading
B. Bilateral PNF UE D2 Extension
C. Chop pattern with left arm leading
D. Rhythmic rotation in sidelying position
Do you think you know which answer is correct? Watch the video to find out.
If you get it wrong, don’t worry. Dr. Kyle Rice, better known as “Coach K” doesn’t just give you the answer -- he breaks down the question so you know how to eliminate answers before getting to the right one.
NPTE practice questions are exactly that, practice. And at The PT Hustle, practice makes perfect. We exist to help students dominate the NPTE exam. Incredibly helpful. Thank you! the NPTE books don’t clarify the “chop” and “lift”. Thanks
Michael Streifer you got it!!!! More to come!!
Lets go!! Needed this for my exam in 4 days
Let me know how it went Matt!
Nice one man...
Hello! Thank you for these videoes. What is the dominant synergy pattern for the LE then?
I have a question, sir. Is it true that between lift and chop patterns, the chop pattern is the one that can only break the spasticity? That made me think deeply between A and C. However, upon careful analysis, A is the best in this case. So if C is changed to Chop pattern with RIGHT arm leading, would it make it correct, given choice A stays as is? Thank you!
Thanks for the question, Kyle! Great name by the way lol.. Lift can break up the spasticity as well actually not just the chop pattern. If we changed C to, "with right arm leading" that would make it a better answer but still not as good as A. We need to pick the answer that pulls the most joints out of synergy. In this case the patient is displaying the "dominant synergy pattern" which is shoulder adduction, elbow flexion, and forearm pronation. PNF D2 flexion or "lift" pulls the joints out of those positions the best.
Kyle Rice, definitely a nice name! Thanks so much for responding! Continue making these videos. I am really challenge by them, and I enjoy watching!
