My jaw dropped at the final painting, holy smokes! You are so talented, Kaitlin! I know it can be scary to share new work, but the first chapter is sounding really good so far. The My Lady Jane comp had me seated. My favourite show forever. Still so sad we don't get a second season. 😭
Thank you Emily!!! I'm glad you liked the painting and the first chapter- I know it shouldn't be, but criticism is hard!!! I'm glad everyone has been positive so far!
Girl what?! The painting is lovely! OMG 🤩 seeing your process alongside the reading was such vibe. Your skill in various types of creative arts will never cease to wow me. Like is there anything you can’t do? I doubt it! 💕🫂 The excerpt was a delicious treat ahhh now I’m even more excited for the book!! Caelin is such a fun character. Not to be dramatic or anything but I would die for him 😭✨ Loved seeing familiar faces on your TV xD I follow Brielle, Cody, and Sara and they’re all also amazing 🫶🏻
This was one of the sweetest things I've ever read, thank you for taking the time to comment it! It really did make my day- especially the bit about Caelin's character. As a writer, I've often struggled with knowing if readers are going to like my characters right off the bat. I want you to root for them (even if they are morally questionable) but as someone who knows everything about them, it's hard to know if that comes across to someone who doesn't.
@@kaitlinrochellewrites I'm personally a huge fan of what I call "messy" characters. Caelin comes off flawed but real and that's what makes me care about his story. I'm interested to see how he'll navigate things since I know he's got things to learn and he'll struggle, so it feels like the ending when he grows will be all the more satisfying. I feel like there's going to be a lot of complexity to the story on an emotional level. Seems like no one is clearly "the bad guy" here and that makes me immediately care about the layers of all these characters. I also love the idea of how stories can change over time. Like the telephone game or just anything on the internet- we think we know the story but there's always more to it than we realize. Caelin's character has no doubt been somehow warped through history but we're going to get to see the truth here and all of the nuances in-between. Humans like to make things simple, so we can gloss over those gritty details that allow us to empathize with each other. I'm not entirely sure if this is where your story is going? So im sorry if im way off the mark! But even if that's not the themes you'll play with, all the same I'm really looking forward to reading the story you want to tell and I think the world is definitely going to be a better place bc your book exists in it
