*taking fervent notes* 👀👀
oooo. I am so excited to hear more about them in this new year.
Thank you! I'm definitely on my writing KICK so I might have more in-depth things to share as I actually write them…🤔🤭
ummmmmmm....I AM SO EXCITED FOR ALL OF THESE?!
@@andesears even though you don’t typically read sci-fi I WILL be expecting you to beta read 🥰
@ say less!!!
I’m such a fan of these ideas! Would love to hear about the others you have in another video if you decide to do that. They sound super interesting. I feel you on putting away bigger projects that mean a lot. Though I’m so eager to write them I’ve found projects that I can manage for my first few that I still enjoy writing. ❤
Thank you!! I definitely have a LOT more in the archives, and would love to make another video. And yes, putting away meaningful projects can be tough, but at the end of the day, I think it's for the best! I still have a lot of friends who are trying to write their 'heart's books' and you can tell they want them to be perfect, so there's little progress being made
Ooh hope you like the locking function!! It was such a game changer for me !! Best of luck in the revision trenches 🫡
Genuinely the best idea ever! (Also, when I was watching that video I had paused it and typed out this super long comment about how you could essential 'lock' your chapters…only to press play again and you literally did that exact thing like ten seconds later lol. THAT'S why we watch the whole thing before we comment.)
@@kaitlinrochellewrites omg hahaha i love that
I’ll definitely be rewatching this video whenever I find myself in revision, this is such a cool template!
Yay! Hopefully it's a helpful starting point! I'll probably have some final thoughts on it as I continue to use and develop my own revision process
Editing has been this ginormous mountain I have struggled to climb for years. But I can confidently say I am finally done with dev edits, but now I am struggling wiith scene edits.
I'm so happy for you! Not for the struggling part because that sounds terrible, but for finishing!! You're gonna crush this next round, I can feel it. Let me know how it goes and if the template is any help for you!
Curious why you're planning to lock-down the chapters after editing during what's essentially a developmental revision. I can totally see it for line level edits - once the story is in the right order, you've got all the beats you want, etc. - but it seems restrictive for an overview review. Interested to see how it works out. I'm also barrelling toward revision hell so very curious on other authors' experiences and plans.
omg so valid! Something I struggle with a lot is going back and revising, and if it weren't for a challenge like Nano, I might never have finished manuscripts. I'm hoping that the 'lock down' will encourage me to keep up the pace and not get bogged down in smaller details (like I would probably tend to do!) I'm so interested to hear how your revision process goes- especially because you've written all the books before doing any edits!
This is so helpful, Kaitlin!
Thank you Isabella! Are you revising a project? I'd love to know how it goes!
@ yes I am!
@@isabellajuanitalyn Yay! Well hopefully everything goes SUPER smooth for you!!
The link to notion wont let you access it without perms 😫. But also, Blake Snyder is the author of Save the Cat and he was a male author and screenwriter who died in 2009, so I’m not sure who you’re referring to when you talk about the female author of the Level-Down method video. However author Jessica Brody wrote two sort of “spin off” versions of Save the Cat “Writes a Novel/ YA Novel” if that’s who you mean. I think there’s been several authors who have their own take on Save the Cat XD Brody does credit Snyder though in her work since she is not the original creator of the Save the Cat method nor is she the author of the book shown on the screen when you refer to the Level-Down method. Accidents totally happen! There’s so much material out there and it can get super overwhelming sometimes. Totally don’t want to dismiss the rest of your video bc you’ve got great stuff in here. Just wanted everyone to know where to find the right resources with the right credit. Personally, I found both Snyder and Brody’s books super helpful 🤩 Snyder’s book is meant largely for screenwriters (though any storyteller can benefit from it), references films, and is shorter whereas Brody includes essays and uses Snyder’s methods but adjusts them for specifically novels or YA novels (depending on the version you get). All are great resources ✨
Oh no! I will have to try and figure out that link! I might not have updated it properly for post! Thank you for letting me know- and OMG I didn't know that Save The Cat was something other than that Writes a Novel book. That is such good information to know! I've only ever heard it in reference to that book.
Okey dokey, I think I have the right link uploaded now! Let me know if that works!
@@kaitlinrochellewrites The Level-Down link works. The Marta video and copy of template don't, though. Also side note but im so, so hype for Sir Caelin Grey's Final Lament like ahhhh that premise is just everything! <3

@@writeymaile yessss!! Literally me last night wondering if it was weird to play my own productivity video 🤣
This is such a good idea!! Thank you for this video <333
That advice about not writing the project of your heart first is so good! Writing is a skill to develop, and it’s so easy to get discouraged early in the game. Save your best ideas for later 😊 great video! Good luck in 2025!
@@awritingdai thank you!!! I definitely know so many people who have tried writing their heart’s book for years…and then feel discouraged that it’s taking years! (I’m also one of those people, but after hearing that advice, I shelved it. And now look! I’ve finished a book!)
loooove the space western idea!! a project where you just write for fun always feel like it says more from your heart then the ones where you set out to say something!
I totally agree! It's so crazy how Project Lament went from a silly no-pressure story, to a commentary on family relationships and trauma.
Wow! I wish I had this many projects all thought out! I can't let myself stray from my main, or I'll never finish it 😅🤣
Omg I feel like I have TOO many projects!! I'll probably have to do a part two to this video lol, especially after re-visiting my old writing, I was thinking 'wow, I forgot about this fun story!'
@ haha well I can’t wait to see it if you do share a part two!!
So exciting Kaitlin! Can't wait to see these projects come to fruition!
Thank you!!
For the first time in a long time, I don't have another story waiting in my brain. Which is good. Because I'm finishing up the first draft of my third novel in a series and will soon have over 550K words to revise 😬 But it looks like you've certainly found your niche, which is great.
Congrats on finishing up that series! That's so cool to have done so much work!! Did you revise separately or did you write them all first and are now going back to revisions?
@@kaitlinrochellewrites thanks! The most revision I've done was a very incomplete zero draft --> first draft (current WIP). No revisions on the other two. But yes, that's the plan - finish the third, and go back to revising the first in order. Next year will be mostly all revision, I'm thinking...

Ahhh! Thank you Taylor!! So glad you enjoyed it!
Love this video! Both covers are great, and I think Ande’s is my favorite. The minimalistic style looks so good!! And I love the idea of connecting the Os ❤ If I were to offer a very small piece of constructive criticism, I would say I think Brielle’s cover could do with something to make the title more readable. Not necessarily a font change, potentially a shadow or border could suffice, although I’m definitely not a graphic designer, it was just something that I noticed. The cover itself stands out nicely, but I did notice I struggled reading the title, so I thought I’d share!
@@popuri48 thank you!! Such a great piece of advice…when you stare at something so long you start to not see the small things 🥰
Ohhh, I love Ande's cover, too. I think the red color is gorgeous! I don't think I'd like a gold color as much. Maybe if it was a shimmery gold on a small portion but left most of the red. Or leave one thing red at least? I'd want to see it to compare and decide if I like this original better or not.
@@WatercolorwithMegan ooo what a great idea! A little accent color!

These covers are so beautiful Kaitlin! I love the linework, it's something I've been noticing some in book covers but definitely want to see more of. It adds this rougher aspect, making things less clean cut and more raw and interesting! I can't wait to see the next installment with Cody and Natalie! 🤍

This is a great how-to! Do you guys also do critiques as part of your group or is it focused more on writing sprints? We have a big critique group in my metro area but it's a bit too far to go every week, so I've been toying with the idea on and off of starting an offshoot closer to home. On the other hand, you can find critique partners online, so maybe it's not as useful...
Thank you! Right now we've been mostly focused on dedicated writing time- I did open the floor up for critiques at the beginning, but I think a lot of the members are at a point where they don't have things to really share yet. I anticipate that changing really soon though! (I've had a few members reach out about critiquing online, and saving the meetings for writing.) I think a lot of people would appreciate having a writing group closer to your area, so if you feel ready to start one, I suggest going for it!! Who knows, maybe there's someone in your area who's always wanted to go to the other one but can't… That was very long-winded, hopefully it helped a bit!
