    My 2020 WRX STI engine had the same oil burning issue. The engine blew up at 59,000 miles. It wasn’t modified nor tuned and I took care of it (oil changes done on time at the dealership). I am also the original owner. It took 2 months for SOA to approve the work but the dealership built me a new engine under the powertrain warranty (which is 60,000 miles). Drives great and I am grateful, plus very lucky.

      This is exactly what I was afraid of. I figured mine would blow up at 60,001 miles.

      I own a 2020 WRX/STI. I owned the 2017 base model WRX and got the 2020 STI because my 2017 WRX clutch failed @101K. My Bluebaru STI has over 68K on it and is my daily driver. I live in Oceanside ca and I drive to work in Irvine Ca every day. 100 miles a day. 50 miles up and 50 miles back home. My Bluebaru had 9,421 miles on it when I bought it. The STI is a very good and interesting car. No problems so far, Irvine Subaru does all of my maintenance. A great group of men and women taking care of my Bluebaru. World Rally Blue. Subies forever. A great video brother 😊

      Thanks! Couldn’t pass on the STi especially since they discontinued it. I want to go to these manufacturers and shake them a bit each time this happens.

    He’s back! Hoping to see more C5/6 content. I just recently picked up a C5 and already looking for a C6 lol. Congrats on GTR by the way. And the STI daily driver isn’t bad either :) cheers to more cars and driving

      Thanks! There will definitely be a lot more content from all of the vehicles. Glad to hear you get yourself a C5; C6 is definitely a right choice too :). I was just shocked that the last time I really posted was almost 4 years ago! Time does go by fast. I could have sworn no more than 2 years.

    Glad to see you back! Looking forward to new videos. Making me contemplate getting rid of my 2019. Started having some battery draining issues and they keep telling me I’m not driving it enough. Been through 3 OEM batteries (they say they were all bad) and it goes in tomorrow to get a parasitic draw test performed. I should also say it’s more of a weekend car and it has less than 10k miles on it.

    • @CarModGuy

      At the end of the day, the car has gremlins. I have trickle charges hooked up to my Corvettes since I don't drive them frequently. But that's awesome! Less than 10k miles! At the end of the day, if you want something comparable, there's really nothing new out in the market. I have a bad habit now buying and keeping cars and it looks like the 2021 STi is here to stay for the long run. Just finished recording some clips for the UA-cam shorts portion so I'll be posting them up pretty regularly.

    Got me a 21 STI in March just gone 2024 with 8 n half k on clock no mods done to it what so ever. First 6 weeks of owning I put the following items on it
    IAG AOS
    IAG oil pan/baffle/pu tube
    4th cylinder mod
    Married my Cobb ap not re mapped though.
    Mishimoto radiator coupled with GS rad hoses
    Killer B thermo housing
    GS v2 BPV
    Perrin master brake cylinder brace
    GS pitch stop mount
    I'll leave as is now till it's paid for then I'll upgrade the fuel system still gonna run 93 not flex, downpipe, cat back, air intake and a good tune. And I'll be happy......I think.

    A brand new sti at 20 thousand miles and it’s burning oil sounds like a dud I have a 2019 sti limited I’m thinking of buying a 2024 wrx

    • @CarModGuy
      @CarModGuy  3 місяці тому

      It was a dud. That’s why I was going through the process of getting a new engine for it. After selling it, maybe 6 months later, I get a call from Subaru of NA asking me questions about it and mentioning how they’re doing the process at some dealership that I didn’t even know existed. Turns out that the person who bought it started going through the same process again. I did take the time to give them a piece of my mind during that call. Many apologies, etc, but it was too late at that point.

      @@CarModGuy Sound almost exactly my story. I came across your channel awhile back and inspired me to trade in 2019 WRX for a 2020 Sti. With the Sti, I noticed at 20k I was burning about a quart of oil every 1500 miles of mostly city driving. I use 5w40. At around 28K I had a CEL and dealership said I needed a new sprocket. Went to a different dealership and they replaced the oil control valve instead. At 38K, same CEL code popped on again. And they replaced the same oil control valve. Im currently at 42K and no CEL. Hopefully I won't need a new engine.
      Most of my research say it is common to burn 1 every 2-3K miles since it is reving around 3K RPM most of teh time.

    • @CarModGuy
      @CarModGuy  2 місяці тому

      @@DC-ke8qp glad you got it and are enjoying it. I hope so too. Everything you described I 100% did with the dealership. I honestly don’t know how long that engine would have lasted with continued maintenance, but I was just about to be out of warranty so decided to go and try something different before returning to the 21 STi. I hope yours last forever.

  • @marinatejada3721

    You mentioned you're not doing any mods because of the warranty expiring Oct 2024. BTW that is the basic warranty (3yr 36k miles). You still have 2 more years and up to 60k miles for the powertrain, so if you tune it at all you will void any engine replacement needed. Just a heads up if you were confused.

    • @CarModGuy
      @CarModGuy  2 місяці тому

      I know 🥲 I’m just gonna risk it

    • @KnivesOfTheRound
      @KnivesOfTheRound 2 місяці тому +1

      SoA has to prove that the modification caused the failure. You don't automatically lose your warranty because you modded your car.

    • @CarModGuy
      @CarModGuy  2 місяці тому

      Yeah that’s what we’re told…but the first thing the dealership does is check to see if you’ve had the Access Port. Their response previously was “okay good. No Access Port. Now we can continue to submit to SoA.”
