- Pa is on daddy day care duty. So the joke is on me!😒😂 I really did not think this egg was going to hatch. This is great! Congratulations Ma & Pa. Mom returns from break with a fish. Good surprise for Mom! She's takes a stick from the rail and lays it beside the nest bowl. I guess she is setting some new protective boundaries.
***In case you missed it on Facebook, Mom's ankle band numbers were sent off to USGS. Mom was banded in Colorado in May 15, 2002. she is 22 years old! She has hatched 36 eaglets. **

What does the Fort St. Vrain bald eagle site look like? The eagles' nest (FSV-N0) is 9 x 8 feet wide, eight feet high, and 57 feet off the ground. It has a perimeter of about 26 feet, a total area of about 56 feet, and probably weighs between 2200 and 2700 pounds! The nest is located in a cottonwood on the banks of the St. Vrain River near Platteville, CO, on property owned by Xcel Energy. We’re not sure how old it is, but Bob Anderson and Rob MacIntyre put the first cam system up in 2003, when the nest was already well established. FSV-N0 is built primarily of cottonwood branches (the dominant tree in many river systems out west) and lined with prairie grass. After the primary limb supporting the nest fell in August of 2020, RRP Director John Howe worked with Xcel Energy to put up a new bionic limb and restore the nest. I love how the parent breaks off a piece out of the baby's mouth thinking it was a little too big for the baby and then parent took that broken off piece and gave the food to the other baby ❤

Me too. Twice, I thought it had a pip. Then, I just decided yesterday , it's not going to hatch, and I gave up.
@@chickiedee64 I had given up, too. Then this morning I saw it and thought what the heck. Maybe a miracle will happen after all. He does look so tiny compared to 49&50.

Awesome! Checked this nest an hour or so ago and it sure looked like there were 3 eaglets. Showed my two little grandkids and they loved it. So neat to see the actual hatching. Thanks for uploading!

It only needs to live if the other two can’t. it has the opportunity of living if there’s enough food to go around. If not well, you know the answer to that..

It seems by reading the comments that it has taken a lot longer for #3 to hatch then normal. In my opinion, I am a firm believer that miracles do and can happen for these three even though I don’t like reading from someone saying that the new baby dis get bonked.😔🐥❤️. It would be nice however if the parents would keep an eye on the babies and in their own Eagle ways would make the others mind and possibly too when they start feeding them that they would feed the other two that are older then feed the youngest one last cause then the two older ones would b so stuffed and sound asleep that the youngest would have a fighting chance at food and thriving too. That is usually what they do; the largest/oldest gets fed first. Typically a third one that's a few days behind learns to wait and position him/herself to get fed when the big sibling(s) are done. Mom and Dad will feed all of them as long as there is enough food for all...so it's really all up to how much food they can bring in for all three to thrive.
Yes! I couldn't believe it, when I just looked in on them a little while ago. The other two looked so hot & miserable, poor things. I don't think they have much shade, if any there.
What a beautiful sight to see, obviously the other Eagle Cam I watched where the Dad ate two of the hatchlings :( broke my heart.

So cute!!! What I'm surprised about is reading in description the size of the nest!!! Those measurements seem huuuuge!!! 9x8ft?? Incredible what nature can build, and endure! How long does it take for babies to fly? This mom is 22 and has had 36 babies? Maybe reason for Jackie and Shadows poor eggs not hatching is related to weather? Did these eggs go thru snow and Temps close to J&S? Or is it warmer in CO?
extreme temperatures can affect the eggs. They were exposed to snow and cold weather. I have seen an egg left uncovered for 2-3 hours before in very low temperature. That eaglet hatched and fledged! Eaglets usually fledge at 3 months.
Don’t get happy until you see consistent prey deliveries. I guess for most of you this is emotional. For others of us it is more cognitive. Interesting to see what happens either way.
The smallest chick died. There doesn't seem to be enough food available. All three screamed. By the time food finally arrived, it was too late for the littlest one. What's going on there?
There has always been an abundance of food. The babies were fed well on Saturday night, and the dad finished it off after babies were fed. More food did not arrive until a little before noon on Sunday. It's the first time since following this nest that I've seen that happen. Leftover food also attracts predators to the nest.
Last one won't live long..

Not surprised the third one didn't live long. Too far behind the first two siblings. Tough to watch Mother Nature sometimes, but it is and always will be survival of the fittest!
