No cheesy lines, no doll-like male actors and make up.... just simple and honest story, fantastic acting skills plus excellent cinematography... what more u can ask for?

I wish more drama can have a main female like Ae Shin. She's loved, not only because her beauty but also because she's kind hearted, strong willed, fearless, independent and smart.
And their love story is nothing like any other, their closest skinship is only hugs, no kiss or bed scene, but we can feel their love to each other all over.
I admire the writer for creating such a magnificent character and storyline
and she had 3 men loving ,admiring and protecting her.
The writer should let eugine choi live. That was his only bad storyscene. I get sometimes feeling most kdrama doesn't have happy ending...

Their love story is so wholesome. Just their conversations and feelings are enough to make us feel the warmth of their romance. I love how I don't anticipate a kissing scene in this drama. Everything is perfect already.

I started this drama 3 days ago and completed it today. I just couldn't stop myself from watching it all day cause it was so good . I gotta say it was the best Korean dramas of all time . The characters , the storyline , their own stories and ae- sin and Eugene's love story was really just way better than any love story I have seen . The ending was truly sad , but it left a great impact on me and I am sure I will never be able to forget this drama for a long time .

Yes, this deserves an award like oscars. Everything in this drama was soo good. From the actors to the ost songs, to the layout of the setting. The romance and comedy in this drama was freken amazing. This drama had everything, even a dang Sad ending. What an amazing rollercoaster that drama was. It will forever be the best drama for me. This drama is just so poetic and achingly beautiful. And yeah the ending was very sad and tragic but i think it was the best ending for the story.This just sets the bar higher for me in terms of Kdrama..

I have begun watching the first episodes of ''Twenty five twenty one'' with an high school reckless Kim Taeri, and she speaks so much with that particular voice of her that it hit me two hours later : OMG this is the voice of the female leader in Mr. Sunshine, my first historical Kdrama that I saw a year ago. I just couldn't believe it. How could she play something so mature when she was 27 and slash our mind playing this yelling laughing kid now that she's 31 ? My brain experienced a little bug during half an hour. That's how amazing she is !
I had same feeling ,how can she play such a chaotic teenager and a mature woman both .
LITERALLY. An absolutely amazing ACTRESS who can truly portray different individuals with such incredible embodiment.
I've seen four of her tv/films, and her part was different in each one. She really is amazing. All four characters were totally believable. She's one star that will never be type cast.
I'd like to add that 25 21 is Start Up done right. Just an Amazingly good show. It would have been good with any competent female lead. With Lady Go as the lead, it moved up a notch or two. Start Up was OK, a show that could/should have been great, but the writer and production team failed to see the opportunity they had. The scenario is great, the execution wasn't.

This is byfar the best historical drama ever. Great cinematography, magnificent actors, well written characters and storyline. Just real and simple yet will struck you to the core. All characters shown even for a slightest screen time have their purpose. I've said a lot but seriously no words can be enough to describe how beautiful this drama is, from the actors to the script. Well deserved from winning daesang. I just hope more people would see and appreciate this

One thing about this show that really impressed me is how true it remained to the period ethos. The love story between Capt. Eugene Choi and Lady Go Ae Shin never crossed the lines that existed at the time. It's far from being the only impressive thing, the whole show was tremendously impressive, to the point that it is my favorite production of all time. Period, without a doubt.
I need to add this video brought tears to my eyes. Funny, I'm 71, and nothing has ever done this to me before Mr. Sunshine came along.
For a long time I saved this drama on my watchlist, and didn’t start watching it, a week ago I decided finally starting it and I finished it! And I gotta say, this one of the best dramas I’ve ever watched! No cheesy storylines, scenes, just good storytelling, compelling and great characters, amazing actors and actresses and beautiful cinematography! I kinda regret having not watched it before 😅 but now I did and absolutely loved it! But one of the most beautiful things in this this, is how AeShins and Eugenes love is shown, no kisses or awkward bed scenes, you don’t need those things because you can clearly feel their connection and love!

GOBLIN was great too.....Kim Eun-sook is a GREAT writer..... I saw some other drama recently and IT FAILED to draw me in...Goblin, Descendants of the Sun, Mr. Sunshine, even Secret Garden PULLS YOU IN..... It was the writing that made it happen...along with the actors...BUT it starts on the written page...
I loved this kdrama, finished it after 6 months, so much in pain especially the last episode. My own grandpa was a freedom fighter who took part in freedom struggle of "Quit British India Movement" and "Non-Cooperation Movement", he had to drop out of school in order to continue to be the part of resistance group against Britisher's, used to stay hidden in the mountains of Gaaro-Khasi hills in North East India to see India as a free country. Was newly married to my grandmother but was not able to spent sweet moments because they always lived in a fear of getting caught, his best friend was being shot before his own eyes by the British Army and he too was taken into custody by them and was tortured, during winters. This drama hits home, I did see my grandpa but didn't get much time to spend with him was he died in 2003, 16th January, with pride and honour. His last words were, "I will die as an Indian in a free nation".

This drama, makes me realise that our ancestors fought for us with their sweat and blood so we can live happily in a free nation. I am a proud Indian in a free nation, thanks to our forgotten heroes and I am happy for the Koreans too who are able to live in a happy and a free country, without any fear.

Hey i am an Indian too and finished watching this drama today and was stunned by how similar the stories of some nations of the world are. Korea and us both got our Independence 2 yrs apart on 15th Aug. Salute to all freedom fighters. England and Japan should give a proper apology .

I’m so glad you found one of the few best. Badly written, rushed romance “historical” dramas like Love in the Moonlight, Hwarang (a disgrace lmao I can’t even endure one minute of this one), Scarlet Heart Ryeo, The King Loves, Rookie Historian Goo Haeryung, etc. make me cringe to the bottom of my feet. Mr. Sunshine is absolutely empowering.

I'll never find the right words to describe how this drama broke me, I also will probably never recover from this pain but even tho, what a amazing & incredible drama. Will never get over tho, will never forget how much I cried, I never cried so much in my life watching a drama, not even with Goblin, the last 3 episodes i cried during the entire episode.
It is the first drama where every line they said had a deep meaning first drama where i saw mature love story without any kisses intimate scenes but chemistry between leads is off the charts

I'm not a big Korean drama fan, though I've seen a few back in the day that I really enjoyed. However COMMA I absolutely LOVE this highly creative, captivating, raw emotions-filled/passionate, deeply heartfelt, soul-igniting, powerful, hilarious, suspenseful, action-packed, empowering, inspirational, and HANDS DOWN the most amazing drama series that I've ever seen.
Mr. Sunshine includes interconnected stories that move you beyond the ordinary, authentic characters that you fall in love with (or not), interesting dialogues that keep you engaged, soul-touching beautiful music that makes you want to cry, and stunning cinematography that just blows you away.
If you're willing to have an open mind and heart (aka integrated Mind/Heart), I have no doubt that this show will intensely stimulate you on all energetic levels of your being---physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual---the latter due to some profound wisdom, to include Unconditional True Love, not only between two characters, but among interconnected souls.
If you're drawn to go deep into the so-called rabbit hole, you will SEE with much clarity that even the so-called "bad" or "evil" characters serve a Divine purpose of providing contrast/duality/polarity; hence, allowing the so-called "good" characters to shine brightly. It reminds me of a well-known saying that the dark night sky helps the stars to shine bright.

For those who haven’t watching this drama yet and probably considering either to watched it or not, let me say that I totally recommend you to watch it. There’s no kissing scene like you probably expected, but they have the purest form of love in here, the best friendship one could ever asked for. Great cinematography, great story line, amazing casts and heartbreak no one saw coming! 10/10 🌟🌟🌟
And, in case you still didnt convinced with my point; just remember the fact that this drama is listed among top10 highest viewed kdrama for tvn/cable tv; it’s truly live up to its reputation!

One of the best if not the best among the best KDrama Series. The Eu-shin love story really breaks my heart. A must see series but be ready for the pain , depression and sadness. The best story, actors and actresses, casting, cinematography, director, costumes and dialogues plus the musical OST scores per episode. Hope this would make it in Emmy Award. Superb, outstanding and world Class performance that transend beyond border.

Just finished watching this last night. The lead actor Eugene was incredible. What a amazing presence he has and the dialogue on how he spoke was amazing.

I've just recently got to spare some times to watch this drama. I know this drama is very popular but I've been ignored it as the age gap between the lead actors are quite big but I'm ashamed of myself for making my own assumptions. This drama is so amazing!! All the characters were so alive. The love story between AeShin and Eugene Choi are so beautiful and pure. This is the first Kdrama pairing that I don't need any skinship between them. I just need them to have some deep conversation between each other. And I'm satisfied with them having the time to walk side by side. Lee Byung Hun is one of Korea's best actor indeed. This is my first time watching Kim Taeri's acting but damn. She nailed it. Her visual is amazing tho. Yoo Yeon Seok is too good to be a 2nd male lead. I hope he got to star in magnificent drama as main lead soon. I appreciate all the actors and the production staffs. Mr Sunshine is one of the best drama that I've watched for a while

Tbh most of the best k-drama that I already watched are the one with the “big age gap” situation. There’s a reason why it’s popular. Because it’s highly relatable and quite realistic. Furthermore most of the time they bring something more to the table than just “i saw you have a beautiful face, i want to kiss you and bed you” type a story.
After watching her in Twenty five twenty one I start to search her and I found this masterpiece, I can't stop crying😭😭😭 I just finish 24 episode that my heart broken into pieces, but this is the best drama I've ever seen. 👏👏👏

I am watching this again and I am still amazed at this show... It was one of the first Korean dramas I watched when I discovered the genre. I have since watched many as I have become enamored with the quality and skill of writing and acting. However, for me, there are a few shows that stand out above the rest and this is one of them.
My top Kdrama. Amazing cast,storyline, cinematography,osts. What more could one ask for.
K drama 'Chuno(Slave hunter)' is also worth watching.
I still regret how I was not able to watch this in 2018 and now I'm here left behind when everyone moved on already. I love this couple so much. When I say, I want romance, this is what I am talking about. Their love story is heartwarming.
What a beautiful job!!! I cried several times for being a very well-made and beautiful story. Really a kdrama that can't be missed. It was really breathtaking. This one is definitely a MUST watch. One word to describe everything about this kdrama is badass💯 Its like sitting down for 4-courses meal but receiving 10-courses that were delicious and satisfying far beyond expectations.
One of the most kdrama i've seen. This kdrama left the pains in my chest. Im in love with the storyline, the actors, chemistry, realistic, emotions, beautiful setting, ost... I can feel the pains by their teary eyes and movements. This is masterpiece. Finally all i can say is WOW. Im hooked!!! Thanks to all those who in one way or another achieved something so beautiful. Kdrama to the new level. Highly recommended!!!!

Lee Byung-Hun is more than just an action star. He does drama so well. But he's typed cast in Hollywood He's always the assassin. But he was the perfect Storm Shadow in G I Joe. But have you seen A Bitter Sweet Life or I saw the Devil. He's a great actor

the reason why i like korean dramas over american is because you can watch a beautiful love story with your whole family. they prove that love doesn't always have to be represented by sex. the last time i watched an american or european drama with a bit of romance, 1/3 of the episode was sexual. like sex is NOT the most important part of love. you can have sex with hooker that doesn't mean you love her. i even believe that you can have a romantic relationship without sex at all. those drama are also ruining our youth. they make us believe that sex is the most important thing. don't believe such nonsense, sex should be the last step in a relationship. i have friends with gf with whom they've had sex on the first date. that's not a relationship i look out for. i may sound like a grandpa but i'm 20 believe it or not.

I left Korea so long ago (1986) and visited a couple of times in 1990. While I am working at the department, Asian customers has been telling me how they fascinating with Korean dramas, then I chuckled thinking, "is that right?" but this drama my husband found through Netflix and wanted to watch it with me. Oh boy, Korean movie industry has been improved a lot, I like it. My grandfather was an activist for the independent of Korea, (독립 운동가) and arrested, put in the prison. He died, I never met him but he was honored by The president of Young-sam, Lee. Even now, Korea is not recognized to many Americans. Many of them asking me if I am a Japaneses, I said no then jump to Chinese. I am proudly say, I am a Korean, yes, South Korea. This drama was exceeding my expectation, some part my husband (American) cannot comprehend why those two couple takes too long, this man should take her to America. Also it has been educational, we checked when beer was invented, canned food for soldiers, wow, hamburger at that time? I'd recommend to other Asians to watch. Well done with some wits, laughs and tears. I have 4 episodes more to finish.

"Mr. Sunshine" Legendary Drama !!!
I just finished this today and I was sobbing almost the entire episode. I had a feeling it was gonna happen. Definitely the best kdrama I have ever watched. I think it will be hard to watch again because my it's so painful to think about it.
I could not understant the end very well was he fired from U.S army and backed to Chosan?
@@sepidem9136 Dishonorably discharged with a three year prison term. The charges were such that, at the time, execution could have been the result. Extenuating circumstances (Just married, his wife in the process of being abducted and facing certain death.) and the recommendation of his former superior officer saved him from that.
He shot a gun into the American Embassy and the United States judge advocate considered that treason. Not sure why because he was trying to help Ae Shin. So I think wrongly imprisoned and a Dishonorable Discharge (that would not happen today). But that is the reason he was put in jail in the United States and Dishonorably Discharged.
@@sepidem9136 Missing movement (His orders were to board that ship and return to the US.) under those circumstances could have been considered desertion. Firing on the US EMBASSY would have made things worse. The testimony of his former commanding officer in Joseon (Korea) is the only thing that saved him.

One of the best of not the best Korean drama I’ve ever seen. The acting, the cinematography, the characters! It’s so RARE to find Excellent Acting in dramas nowadays and I fell in love with every character presented. What I loved was that all the characters can convey their acting in their Eyes. Just a beautiful stunning drama.

I watch alots of korean drama and movies but this is the only drama that made me heartbroken 💔💔💔💔💔💔and crying at 3am in the morning, i cant move on 😭😭😭😭😭 that sad ending breaks my heart 💔😭

Mr Sunshine the movie, Mr Sunshine Eugene Choi the character, the music and every episode all summed up into a very mesmerizing movie! Lee Byung Hun is pure genius in portraying the character of Eugene Choi. Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae-ri, Kim Min-jung, Yoo Yeon-seok, and Byun Yo-Han and all the actors and extras acted together impeccably and effectively to make a flawless movie. Congratulations to the writer Kim Eun-sook and to Director Lee Eung-Bok the geniuses behind the camera. We were breathless in every episode. WE WANTED MORE! CONGRATULATIONS Eugene Choi! Congratulations to all of you.

My favourite kdrama of all time even with the sad ending. My heart still aches for these two. The photo taking in Japan scene has to be one of the best and meaningful scenes. They are amazing actors and the 20 year age gap was irrelevant. Chemistry off the charts! We need another one with these two but hopefully with a happier ending.

1 moment i am crying in laughter, next i am crying in sadness. This screenwriter is worth her coins. Mr. Sunshine is such a great piece to watch. The ups and downs are manicured perfectly. You know it is good when you find yourself crying because she thinks fish starts with p but you were just crying that someone sacrificed himself on the train😀bravo skills by both the writer and actors

This is from Victoria I an using my daughters phone . One word excellent. This series should win some type of award. Best script ,acting,everything. Glad I decide to see this. I am usually not into these type of movies where I need to read fast. But the whole thing in general kept me wanting to watch more.

This scene was so refreshing, tender and so very well acted. In a time and in a culture that is so reserved sexually on screen and in public, with the intent of respect, and at arms length distance - the time it actually takes to develop a close bond - it was magical and so full of hope.... great job...

Lady Ae Sin's innocence is so touching - brings a lump to my throat.
This is an awesome show - the acting, direction, cinematography are all brilliant.
I'm also learning some of the history of Korea and how Japan was a colonizing power over Korea.

What an amazing drama. Everything is perfect. Eugene Choi and Aesin love was amazing without a kiss scene. Dong Mae, Byun yo-hon and Eugiene friendship was a beautiful one. I just love to see the three join together and make jokes. The last episodes of the drama left me with a scar. I cried to see all three died. Dong Mae my favorite one I just cried alot on his death. Byun Yo-han made me smile whenever I saw him. Love it
Aeshin's 'Choi Yu-jin' scream in the finale still haunts me😭💔💔💔 I love this drama. It jumps in my toplist. Gun. Glory. Sad Ending.

The roughly 8 minutes in the middle of episode 2 are most riveting, dramatic, dynamic, enticing and thought provoking I've ever been fortunate to be part of.
if anyone ever wants to see this masterpiece, prepare to be in aw for amazing cinematography, moving story from most skillful actors/actresses (especially Kim Taeri ssi and Lee Byung Huyn) and last but not least, prepare to cry your eyeball out, since the last episodes were the most devastating one, yet being the most magnificent ones.....

And it's of true Korean spirit as well. The Yuibyoeng, a civil army that was organized by people, existed and fought hard for Korea's independence and rights.

i cried a lot . this was a master piece, now its my all time favorite drama. So much chemistry to their love team but knowing lee byung hun is now married it quite make me sad.
For those people who don't watch this just because of the Age gap and they look like a Father-Daughter, but when u watch this that feels is not there anymore. Their chemistry is undeniable. They make a good couple. So for you who don't watch #MrSunshine, you'll regret it.
Well me too didnt watch due to agegap first but after first few minutes show got me attracted & this chemistry is so natural not forced or not overacting .Dialogues are so romantic not too cheesy, but with full of respect,affection & care.
I refrained from watching it at first because they didn't "look" compatible... but when I finally started it, I didn't feel any incompatibility between them at all.
In American films the men usually have 10 to 20 years on the female. It's not a big issue in Hollywood.

After watching Mr. Sunshine, I was curious about the Japanese reaction, and I found out that he created an anti-Japanese drama to maximize anti-Japanese emotions. I would have exaggerated more because it was a drama. The fact that Koreans' anti-Japanese education is scary...
When I heard this, I was really heartbroken. The reality is worse than this drama. In fact, the background of that drama was before Japanese colonial era, and after that, it was the beginning of colonial rule, so it was reduced a lot. My grandmother still talks.If you cry, an instant will catch you. When I was young, I didn't know what that word was, but as I grew up, I learned it.
