  • I did an episode of Boon with Michael Elphick in 1990, 3 weeks after giving birth to my first child. It was quite a challenge and I relied heavily on a very good friend to baby sit Stewart and bring him to set whenever he needed feeding. Thanks Sarah!
In this episode Rocky is in love again this time with a snooker hustler played by Jane Horrocksa and someone is trying to undremine Ken who has a contact to guard a buliding site. As you can imagine nothing goes according to plan. Notable for appearances by Willie Thorne as himself and me as Dr Freda Butler from the department of Archaeology at Nottingham University enacting a sit down protest in order to preserve ruins and artefacts from a long lost Cistercian Monastery underneath a construction site
Also starring Derek Fowlds, Tenniel Evans, Ron Cook, Elizabeth Carling, Michael Gough, Paul Bradley and Neil Morrissey #boon #classictvshows #tvshow #itv #centraltv

it's quite a cast list - is there such a thing as 'feel good' actors?

I remember watching Boon as a very young child during its final three series 1990-1992. I have seen all episodes of Boon multiple times on TV repeats and also own every episode on DVD recorded directly from the TV so are in original broadcast form unlike the Network releases where in some episodes featuring music, the songs have been dubbed over with a different track due to copyright reasons. It was sad losing Michael Elphick in 2002 at just 55 years of age. This episode being almost 34 years old, a handful of the cast are no loner with us although David Daker (Harry Crawford), Tony Caunter (Bertie) still are but in their 80's, surprisingly Lee Montague (DS McKinley) also is at 96 years old. I so remember Julia Hills as Rona in 2point4 children. The late Gary Olsen (Ben Porter) was in the episode "Do Not Forsake Me" in series 4 from 1989. Boon still today is my absolute all time favourite TV series. A fair few Boon filming locations around Birmingham and Nottingham have been demolished since the series ended 32 years ago. The Plaza Suite (Tower Ballroom) from series 3 was demolished in 2022. The Crawford-Boon Security Office in 2014 along with the surrounding site and redeveloped.

This is so interesting thank you. As a Nottingham born girl with many family still living in the city it was lovely to be able to be a part of such an iconic series. So many sad losses there 😢

@@julia_hills I enjoyed growing up in the 1990s (born mid 80's) and it was a great decade for TV, movies and music. I'm watching 2point4 children again on BBC iplayer as it was a part of my childhood and watched it right up until it finished in 1999. I remember Anneka Rice from the challenge program appearing in an episode. The episode when Rona trapped her boyfriend Tony inside the sofabed, i almost died with laughter, it was a great comedy sitcom 😂

@@a.wilson4380 thank you - I'm so glad it is finally up on IPlayer and people can rekindle a love or discover ii anew - Andrew is such an undervalued writer

@@julia_hills It was an amazing series, although a comedy-sitcom, I liked the way serious "drama" elements were often added where you didn't laugh, David being ill and taken into hospital and the Porter's house fire. 2point4 children really showed the reality of your average working class family. I miss the 1990's.

@@a.wilson4380 That's so lovely to hear. Andrew was very bold in the storylines he came up with and, yes I think the show was hugely relatable to a large proportion of the population. I was very proud to be a part of it 😀
