Great video! I just sold my 2019 Volvo S60 T5 Momentum and leased one of these 2024 Genesis 3.3T Sport Prestige RWD in a Gray Exterior/Red Nappa Leather Interior combo from a standalone Genesis showroom in my city. I drove every other German car in this segment and each had their own pros and cons. The M340i was definitely the best car of the bunch, but would’ve been stupidly expensive ($300/month more) equivalently optioned. You can tell this is a chasis and engine that BMW has perfected over time, but the price reflects that. At least maintenance was included with the lease, which is something I can’t say for the other German competitors below. The C43 although fast, is a four banger that depends A LOT on pumped in engine sound. It also downshifted very harshly, even in comfort mode and automatic. It always wants to go and kicks you, and has fuel economy numbers that are just as bad as the Genesis ones are. While the interior looked the nicest of the bunch, the fit and finish was very creaky in some parts. Maintenance was not included and costs $2,600 for a pre-paid maintenance plan in addition to the MSRP. The other car I considered more closely was the S5 Sportback, but the lease was an extra $100/month on LeaseHackr for a Premium Plus trim (so missing navigation, HUD) and did NOT include AudiCare maintenance which was an additional $1,699 addition to the MSRP (so it came out to a total of $125/month more or so extra if rolled into the lease). The Audi had massage seats, a lift back, sounded better, and had better lighting in the cabin even though this trim was missing the ambient lighting, but lacked some of those other features the Genesis had that I mentioned above unless one opted for the more expensive Prestige trim. All these cars did something better but I don’t know if I could justify the payment difference of $560/month for the Genesis vs. $700/mo for the S5 with Audi Care, $730/mo for a relatively base C43 without pre-paid maintenance (that’s an extra $2.6K on top of MSRP- ouch) or about $800/mo for an M340i without leather seats and potentially without the M Adaptive Suspension. Yes, I wish the G70 had some ambient lighting and the full digital gauge cluster of the GV70, but I can live without those things for the next 3 years for the price difference while enjoying some cool features like the blind spot cameras, cooled seats (wasn’t available on BMW or Audi, and was an a la carte option on the Mercedes) the awesome torque, and the overall smaller size for parking in the urban area I live in. Yes, I have a Hyundai Ioniq 6, and indeed if you walk up to the trunk with key in your pocket and arms full, it will motor open the trunk lid - BUT only if the doors are locked. If you left the doors unlocked and walk up to the trunk, it just sits there staring back at you.
Good luck getting parts!!!Genesis was always my dream car EXCEPT after having a windshield replaced, the "Pillar Post" seals had disintegrated from heat (what the Genesis dealer said) and now even under warranty I've been waiting 2 months for parts and when I call the dealer to check status, told they can't get the parts from Korea. Due to this issue, the car interior at highway speed is now so loud from wind shear that you have to play the radio almost completely up to listen to a audio book. Parts shouldn't take months on a car still under warranty. Thanks Genesis for not having the capability to replace trim that causes comfort levels in your upscale cars.
Yeah I liked this car, but some of the details were unsettling and it was more than the TLX type-s for me by about 5k. I didn't like cheap tires right off the bat, the digital dash, the touchscreen, the lighter feel of the doors, it's not as rigid of a car, and it doesn't corner like the type s. It does have a snappier motor, and I like the quilted seats more than the Alcantara inserts in my car. The test drive and experience with the dealer were red flags for me, and I always check with parts to see how much certain things cost and if they're stocked like brake rotors. The Acura was cheap and in stock, but the Genny was more and they had to order. For me, that means I'm driving a shitbox loaner elantra for who knows how long, and that's no Bueno. I'm happy I bought what I did.
I needed parts for the car because the third party detailer the dealer used buffed out the clear coat from the black window trim pieces from the car (to get technical, they used a harsh buffing pad to polish the metal trim pieces on the car which damaged the clear coat of the plastic black window trim pieces). The dealership honored the damage, parts came in under a month, got them replaced and that was that. Parts included brand new mirrors (the entire mirror set). It's likely the dealership you worked with that is the problem, the biggest flaw with Genesis is the dealerships, you have to find one that isn't garbage in your area. My entire situation was remedied by going to another dealership 10 miles further than the initial dealership I went to. Also side note, I called Genesis corporate on a whim and complained about the issue, they sent me a check for $300 for the headache. It is what it is, most dealers are terrible and I can confirm it, but customer service is seriously incredible, they just straight up gave me money for simply stating what happened to the car, I've never had a car company just send me money in the mail over a complaint like this and we are talking trim pieces.
Was heavily considering this car over an M340i for the value proposition. Too bad they got rid of that gorgeous Hallesan Green color w/ the black wheels.
That green is a very beautiful color on the stinger wish the g70 had it too😢, I considered the bmw too but it only offers more performance and the g70 keeps out more road noise.
BMW is worth it. The badge really does matter at the end of the day if you want a true luxury sports car. Everyone will know what you mean when you reference something about your bimmer but no one will know what you’re talking about when you say you have a “Genesis.” You’ll have to explain to them that it’s a luxury “division,” from of all brands, Hyundai, and if you show em a pic they’ll think it’s a knockoff Bentley from China
My Stinger GT hasn’t had the body panel issues this car has. My friend has a Sport Prestige trim G70 and his panels around the headlights and rear lights are the same as your model you test drove. I don’t see the same issues on the Stinger which is interesting. My friends G70 is only 1 year old, my stinger is 5 years old.
That top panel is at least soft touch though in the G70. You’re making it sound like it’s hard matte plastic which it isn’t. In a BMW 3 serious or A class Mercedes there’s a comparable amount of cheaper materials in some areas. So I feel it’s not much to bark at Genesis for in the price point. I have a 115k C8 as well(3LT with Z51 and all options). That whole entire interior is nappa leather interior and suede. I still get into a G70 or Stinger GT and feel they are very nice for the price.
It didn’t really steal from the Germans, Albert Biermann came from bmw and took over the N division and that’s when Hyundai and Kia and Genesis became serious competitors due to better bmw driving dynamics
Man, for some reason that counter-clockwise tachometer makes me anxious. There was no reason to do that when every gauge in existence (both in cars and planes) is clockwise. But otherwise an exceptional car!
I have the same Lambda II engine in my 2020 Kia Stinger. Makes a consentient 450 hp/500 ft/lb on ~15psi of boost. Daily drive it, AWD is awesome in the winter
@@XsaviXander haha i would imagine that gets annoying, i wonder if there's a way to disable that in the settings of the car. if there isnt that's feedback they'd probably appreciate.
Bought my 3.3t new 5 years ago, no issues! Would love to get this new one but the prices are ridiculous. Full sticker and a “protection pack” addendum or they sell them to rental car companies. Dealers suck
recently starting working at a hyundai dealership and was super confused why, even though the Hyundai Kia Genesis group has a great V6, why they didn’t put it in the Elantra N? Then I remembered Genesis existed. kind of a shame all of the budget brands are almost completely 4cyl engines now
Genesis makes great cars hindered by the dealership experience. I love the G70 in theory, but the overall size of the vehicle is a bit too small for a sedan imo, which I think would be perfect as a coupe. Since many of the competitors are doing away with their coupes very soon, Genesis offering a coupe could place them in a unique position in the market.
4:30 Wow! I am really surprised the G70 doesn't get a temperature adjustment wheel for the back seat air vents. The Kia Stinger, it's sister car on the same platform, gets a temperature adjustment wheel for the vents. Considering the G70 is a luxury car, I would have thought this would carry over as well. I know the G70 has less backseat space than the Stinger, but that's not excuse for leaving out that feature especially when it's available in the German competitors. I do wish the AWD Stinger had the LSD more readily available in the US. AWD Stingers only got the LSD on special/limited edition models. Canada had the LSD as a standard option on their AWD cars. 😕
I really want one of these as an upgrade from my 2011 IS350. They’re pretty rare in Australia (which is why I want one) as everybody seems to buy a C43 or 330i/m340i here Or maybe a 2021 IS350, decisions!
Had one recently as a loaner as my gv60 was getting a recall taken care of. Nice interior but lot of hard surfaces and that mish mash of a gauge cluster ruins the interior.
I believe Paolo from the Downshift UA-cam channel has tracked his, and it's done well. I can't speak to cooling, or brake longevity, but the chassis and overall dynamics of the car are great, and it would be a ton of fun on track. You'd just have to ditch the Michelin Primacy tires! haha
It's more of a parts bin decision. They prob have enough in inventory and need to use them somewhere, especially now that the Kia Stinger and K900 got discontinued for western markets. It's the same thing with the Lexus IS500, it got a V8 but because they need to empty out their parts bin since it's getting discontinued.
I want Genesis to make a Mini inspired car. So I can get the quirks and character of a Mini buuut more reliable and more features for better value. I feel like BMW & Mini are lowkey entering their flop era Edit: Basically take the Hyundai Venue but make it Genesis and better 😂
@@i.d.6492 It competes in the same segment as the G70 though. As far as I'm concerned, the IS500 was launched in response to the 340i. And yes, it's about $64K fully equipped. It's the only trim that can compete with the 3.3T performance-wise so I wouldn't be surprised if people would cross shop the two, especially those who wants to steer clear of German cars.
BMW is dead for me until they bring physical buttons back. The worse thing about Genesis though is that their 3.3T gets the same gas mileage as BMWs twin turbo V8. It's pretty abysmal.
they’re not terribly well optimized, but if you don’t care as much about speed the 2.0 or 2.5 options are also pretty quick. I ended up with a G70 2.0T after test driving a lexus is300 with a V6, found that the 2.0L turbo was significantly more responsive at lower RPM, which I was very surprised by as I’ve only owned NA v6s in the past
They're gas guzzlers in the city and when pedaled to the metal, but pretty efficient in the highway. It's not uncommon to see the 3.3T get up to 32mpg on the highway. Car & Driver got exactly that on their last highway test.
@@philhenderson3516 - I don't put a lot of weight on anecdotal evidence - anyone can say they get anything. That's why there are testing standards and ratings set by the government. The EPA rates the AWD G70 V6 at 17 city, 25 highway, and 20 combined. The 2023 M550i AWD twin turbo V8, which is a much larger car, and has WAY more hp rated at 17 city, 25 highway, and 20 combined, as well.
@@ShowMeWhatINeedToKnow I completely understand get your point and am not disputing the official EPA ratings. @@devn3813 yep , the N is way more fun. They're different cars completely though. The N is comfortable enough and more fun , more economical and track ready whilst saving coin. The v6 isn't a reason to buy this. It's ok but not that refined compared to Germans
@@mharro88 I'd have to disagree. The only thing N does better is exhaust note and stiffer suspension and steering that's all. It's not more fun to drive. V6 has way more potential. @@i.d.6492 you serious you think a genesis g70 which is a sports luxury sedan is more fun than a track ready chassis like the Elantra N? You've obviously never driven it because that's a absurd statement. Sorry you're clueless. I've owned both. The EN is way more precise on track , the chassis is considerably lighter ,better cooling , you're more connected to the road, better steering, better suspension setup and the DCT transmission first and foremost is more refined and tuned for competitive track sessions and you can get a N in a manual? The g70 transmission auto up shifts lol it's not made for the track. Hilarious to even compare. For fun and performance/track ready out of the box get a N , for comfort and luxury , GT driving get a g70. Period. The g70 is a beast in a straight line with that v6 but it's not going to beat a EN around any corners. A Kia stinger gt is more of a track weapon than the g70 to be honest. We only get the RWD variants here in Australia and they're more fun than AWD The Veloster N is fun but sits on a older inferior platform to a EN , I used to own a i30n hatch , same car at the bones . The EN is still more refined and quicker. Looks are subjective, whocares and cool you can tune a g70 , you can also tune a Elantra N 👍🏽
@@mharro88 I'm well aware they are different, but it's not difficult at all to get g70 there and it's already faster and has more potential. I know what elantra N is capable I've literally had Veloster N which is basically the same apart from bigger turbo on EN and few small changes. If it wasn't for exhaust note EN would have been boring af to drive, it's much slower than G70 and I doubt you'd ever took to the track it's just something you use to jastify thinking it's better 🤡
The size of the G70 is nice - except for the rear. As a Lexus IS owner, the rear seat room was not a priority for me, but at the same time, I felt the rear of the G70 was even smaller than in the Lexus. It is funny how those two models share a lot of attributes but are actually quite different to drive.
I really like the idea of these, but they are dangerously close to m340i / s4 territory at this price. With as poor of an experience as hyundai/genesis/kia dealers are its hard to justify
heard nightmare stories about hyundai/kia dealerships but my buying experience with genesis was amazing. salesman was super knowledgeable and there was no pressure to buy right away. they charged a $750 flat dealership fee and all of the packages were optional, which usually isnt the case as that’s where dealerships make their money. also my genesis dealership has a nice lounge with coffee/hot chocolate and an mini arcade with a couple of full size arcade machines. certainly not the case for everyone, but I love my dealership.
The Genesis Sedan came out first in 2007. Unlike the Sedan, the Genesis coupe wasn't meant as a luxury product, it was more of a Tuscany/Tiburon replacement but much larger in size and with superior RWD dynamics, with its sights set to battle the Infiniti G37 for half the cost. Since the Genesis name had already garnered so much traction with the Sedan, it only made sense for them to call it the Genesis coupe.
On a premium car having hard plastic door panels is such a downer. Sometimes people people keep their elbows there while driving and that's not nice to have at all.

Folks love Genesis here in Washington State
Good luck getting parts!!!Genesis was always my dream car EXCEPT after having a windshield replaced, the "Pillar Post" seals had disintegrated from heat (what the Genesis dealer said) and now even under warranty I've been waiting 2 months for parts and when I call the dealer to check status, told they can't get the parts from Korea.
WOW .....
Probably the best small sport sedan in America under $60k

I honestly wish they made the rear seating area just a bit longer
Yeah. I sat in one and me being a short dude I could barely fit back there.
I hardly ever see these in my area. I love this car, not so much the fuel economy 😅
that color is fuckin awesome
@@christianbryant5617 Lol. Very true. At the end of the day the BMW is better in all aspects.
I appreciate your Jeremy Clarkson "business" impression
One of these blacked out with straight pipes would be a hoot.
It’s kinda like a luxury Elantra N. A Genesis Coupe N with this interior and engine would be amazing!
Man, for some reason that counter-clockwise tachometer makes me anxious. There was no reason to do that when every gauge in existence (both in cars and planes) is clockwise.
But otherwise an exceptional car!
It's a little strange. Maybe some inspo from Aston Martin
They stole that from Aston Martin just like they did the logo.. typical S Korean bullshit
I think this is a great choice in the segment, but others don’t know about it or say they would never even consider buying a Hyundai product
Their loss ....
This cars used are so affordable and worth it.
I like the size and powertrains, but the styling isn't my cup of tea. Still an excellent alternative to the pricier M340i & S4.
We want to see some more spirited driving through some curvy roads?
I have the old sedan before it became g70, I love what they have done and I really want to trade up

they do actually! i drive a G70 and it’s always fun to pester my girlfriend and move her seat back and fourth while sitting at lights
They do. Annoying if you have children who like to move your seat while driving (In my Cadillac).
@@XsaviXander haha i would imagine that gets annoying, i wonder if there's a way to disable that in the settings of the car. if there isnt that's feedback they'd probably appreciate.
Am I the only one who hates the mix of digital and analog gauge clusters? Just make it either fully digital or fully analog.
I think the old gauges with the screen in the middle looked perfect. They either should’ve kept that or gave it the Hyundai full digital display
Bought my 3.3t new 5 years ago, no issues! Would love to get this new one but the prices are ridiculous. Full sticker and a “protection pack” addendum or they sell them to rental car companies. Dealers suck
Great to hear that it's been reliable!
I did not know they moved the cruise control from the right side to the left side on the 2024 and changed the rims
Can we see some more spirited driving maybe along some curvy roads?
Loved the Durango part, what a dumbo haha
recently starting working at a hyundai dealership and was super confused why, even though the Hyundai Kia Genesis group has a great V6, why they didn’t put it in the Elantra N? Then I remembered Genesis existed. kind of a shame all of the budget brands are almost completely 4cyl engines now
Genesis makes great cars hindered by the dealership experience. I love the G70 in theory, but the overall size of the vehicle is a bit too small for a sedan imo, which I think would be perfect as a coupe. Since many of the competitors are doing away with their coupes very soon, Genesis offering a coupe could place them in a unique position in the market.
G80
@@bigden2755 What about it?

They’re pretty rare in Australia (which is why I want one) as everybody seems to buy a C43 or 330i/m340i here
Or maybe a 2021 IS350, decisions!
Had one recently as a loaner as my gv60 was getting a recall taken care of. Nice interior but lot of hard surfaces and that mish mash of a gauge cluster ruins the interior.
Hey Topher just wanted to get your thoughts on how well you think these cars will perform for the occasional track weekend?
I believe Paolo from the Downshift UA-cam channel has tracked his, and it's done well.
I can't speak to cooling, or brake longevity, but the chassis and overall dynamics of the car are great, and it would be a ton of fun on track. You'd just have to ditch the Michelin Primacy tires! haha
It’s so interesting they keep making it with the 3.3. Maybe the 3.5 doesn’t fit?
It's more of a parts bin decision. They prob have enough in inventory and need to use them somewhere, especially now that the Kia Stinger and K900 got discontinued for western markets. It's the same thing with the Lexus IS500, it got a V8 but because they need to empty out their parts bin since it's getting discontinued.
No ambient light 😢
they need to put the DCT in genesis cars to make them better audi / BMW competitors
Hummm. Gs have very responsive trans .... FYI
This car looks incredible both outside and inside … but the m340i is probably the better buy
Yes and a lot more dough trim for trim....
Maybe in the very short term. You'll easily spend more with the maintenance. For the price the g70 is the better value. No contest
Any aftermarket support, like a borla exhaust and down pipe and tune just to boost the HP & TQ a little?
Just a simple CAI and 93 Octane tune can get you to 3.5 0-60
I want Genesis to make a Mini inspired car. So I can get the quirks and character of a Mini buuut more reliable and more features for better value. I feel like BMW & Mini are lowkey entering their flop era
Edit: Basically take the Hyundai Venue but make it Genesis and better 😂
Why don’t they just put the fully digital dash like it’s older siblings in the GV80
Would you rather this over an IS500? Same with the G80 Sport over a GSF?
The is500 is a different vehicle, it's like $70k plus if not more. I'd only consider is500 because of V8 that's all
@@i.d.6492 It competes in the same segment as the G70 though.

Can you put detailed spec each car that you review
Genesis design stands out. It can win over bmw.
I'm just saying from first hand experience that it is possible and reviewers have seen similar results. In the same manner, it is very possible that the M550I gets better mpg on the highway than the advertised 25mpg. But yes, I agree that it's as lot more impressive to see a turbo V8 get those numbers than a turbo V6.

If this car was reliable or this brand Hyundai i think of buying one
Better get down there then. I've had two of them and they are awesome
I sold this for a Elantra N , it was very comfortable and such a good cruiser but not focused enough.
We did get rear wheel drive version of this car in Australia though so definitely more fun than the awd
Do you think the switch and upgrade is worth it and are there any things you miss with the N? I have an N but would love a G70 because of the AWD and V6
And I'm saying this coming from Fully modded tuned Veloster N with upgraded turbo. I'd actually prefer VN over EN because of how ugly that thing is. Plus G70 is a luxury vehicle but can easily be turned into a beast, little tune coil overs and exhaust and she's ready to go
@@i.d.6492 you serious you think a genesis g70 which is a sports luxury sedan is more fun than a track ready chassis like the Elantra N?
We only get the RWD variants here in Australia and they're more fun than AWD
The Veloster N is fun but sits on a older inferior platform to a EN , I used to own a i30n hatch , same car at the bones .
What were the biggest driving experience differences between the two?
Nice car
The interior is way nicer than them and it's more reliable than a BMW or Audi lol. Certainly cheaper to repair as well with better warranty.
Beautiful car. However, the rear leg room is way too small. It's almost useless for anyone over 5 feet tall.
Don't care... I don't use them ....
This is clearly not a family car.
Does this Hyundai comes with lifetime mounting tape free of charge? It’s $60000+ right?

Lousy gas mileage on this v6.
It’s a Hyundai product, does it really surprise you that there is quality issues.
Hummmm. so Audi has the same problem then... it's a VW
Hyundai started a whole new brand out of a Genesis Coupe and then they killed the car.
