      For a quite small bedroom, would you say the hs7 or Hs5 is better? I mean I like the Hs7 more but idk if it would be too much for my bedroom.

  • @ButternoteBackingTracks
    @ButternoteBackingTracks 4 роки тому +31

    The HS7s sound more balanced, but you can hear into the mids more so with the HS5 and they're nice and open, so possibly better for mixing perhaps? They seem to be forgiving of placement too, so you can reinforce the bass a bit that way by setting close to a rear wall. Plus, if you need more bass, add a sub!

    • @jac5614
      @jac5614 3 роки тому +6

      Agree, hs5 could be more helpful to focus and clean up the mids which is pretty huge part of the mixing, imo

      I use the HS5's with a sub and I have the ARC 3 room correction active pretty much always. So would it be pointless to upgrade to the HS7 in this scenerio do you think?

    • @ButternoteBackingTracks
      @ButternoteBackingTracks 10 місяців тому +1

      @@cl9826yes, I agree it wouldn't really be a worthwhile change. You'd have to go for a more substantial upgrade to gain any sonic benefit I would think. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! 😊

      What does cleaning up the mids actually mean

    • @ButternoteBackingTracks
      @ButternoteBackingTracks 3 місяці тому +1

      @@meanwhileinespoo1265 both upper and lower midrange frequencies are where a lot of instrumentation sits. The lower mids are often problematic because that's where keyboards, drums, percussion and bass tend to reside. If a mix isn't balanced, it can sound very muddy and congested. Having good monitors that are neutral sounding through the mids are essential for good mixes.

    If we take into account some loss of true sound over the mic they sound pretty clean and true to form. Also great comparison, best I've ever seen on UA-cam

    pretty fair but, i have hs5 in my studio and the original track is not so thin as in this demo. I compared the hs5 recording on headphone (akg 702 with calibration) and original track on hs5. basses are way more present than the demo.

  • @zeissiez
    @zeissiez 5 років тому +34

    I had both the HS5 and HS7. The HS5 had no bass, while the HS7 bass is not quite full. Both of them need a sub. The HS8 is good enough without a sub. HS5 has a much more 3D mids than HS7. But the treble is quite fatiguing. I ended up keeping the HS7 and a HS8S sub.

    • @RockyHartono
      @RockyHartono 4 роки тому +1

      what do you mean by 3D mid anyway ? is that not natural sound u mean here? and also did u try the high trim at the bottom back of the hs5 to reduce the high frequency ? i plan to buy hs5 or hs7.. currently i have hs8 but it "seems" the vocal sound is less good.. i dont know..bcz i never heard hs5 or hs7 directly too

    • @zeissiez
      @zeissiez 4 роки тому +4

      Rocky Ha. 3D-ness here means the vocal pop out from the rest. I think the HS5 is very good for analyzing the vocal during mixing. I my opinion, all these speakers are best for studio use, not so great for audiophile
