[EP16] Autobahn maxing, a failure, Minis, home. 2CV to Croatia.

- This final episode covers about 800 miles of driving, from Passau, Germany, via The Netherlands and across the UK. There was plenty of Autobahn, which naturally led me to discover just how fast Elly the 2CV can go. More than once...
Somehow, she didn't explode, so we then met up with lots of Minis on a boat and drove home. Contains bonus footage of all fleet members!
Thanks for your support during this five-week mammoth roadtrip. It's been a pleasure.
2CV T-shirts and mugs are available at hubnut.org
Thank you!

I could have sworn I saw a clear hint of blueshift when Elly was approaching the Absolute Limit of 80mph. A lovely series, Ian, very enjoyable and well presented. Have a well-deserved rest together with Elly, but do keep 'em coming!
Welcome home Hubnut. It's been great watching your trip.
Hello, I am German and I remember my 2CV 25 Years ago. I put out all seats except for the driver seat, to fit a mattress, for which I had to remove the driver seat at night.
One night I slept at a beach near Venice with the roof open. Then it started raining and I closed the roof. Back in my cosy, world smallest RV I suddenly saw all the people, of whom I was not aware of, fleeing form the rain. It was a very romantic adventure. Say Hy to Elly and good luck to you. By the way mine drove 130 km/h. It was a 2CV6 Charleston in grey.

It has been an absolute joy watching the adventures of Elly during this amazing trip. And having met you twice was a bonus. ;-) Well done Elly!
Thank you Ian, been great being with you and Elly on your adventure.
Memories of my childhood, 1960s. Many of these cars on the streets of Buenos Aires- Argentina- thank you!
What a tremendous adventure!
I’ve fully enjoyed every kilometer/mile...even the ones that weren’t exactly ‘paragon’...I was on the edge of my seat for the entire journey!
You are truly UA-cam’s greatest motoring raconteur; thanks for letting us all tag along!
Glad to know you and Elly are safely home! Time now to relax...
Well done...so many memories made!
Thanks for letting us come along for the trip!
Stick some Audi badges on, no one will notice the lack of indication then.
Any German car badge in fact in my experience!
@@garymills6702 Sadly true
@@deadmeat6563 Or Nissan, in my experience - Jukes are the worst.
Or perhaps Ford badges - everyone will just assume that it's broken and make allowances ;-)
@@linseyyoung1772 How very dare you take that back immediately.
Thank you Ian and Elly for taking us on this fantastic journey :-)
I think what makes the whole "road trip" fun and exciting is the ability to discover new interesting towns/cities along the way. But when most people are making the return trip they are just eager to get home at that point and it appears to be all highway travel with no exploration. Honestly I never get tired of watching Hubnut's travels but even I want to see him get home to Wales at this point. 😁
Looking at the highways in Europe remind me of the highways here in New York State! Only the vehicles are different.
Somehow, I enjoyed watching the highways as well!
How do I give this whole adventure video series a quadruple "thumbs up"?. Brilliant!,start to finish.
Well done Elly! What an incredible road trip for a car with a brand new engine rebuild! Well done to you to Ian!
Thank you so much Ian for all the entertainment you've provided me with. I felt like I was there in the passenger seat with you. You're some operator! And to do all that without a radio!? Wow!
16 videos in 5 weeks, it has been a great adventure to go along with you. Thank you.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. I thoroughly enjoyed your videos. It makes me want to go and get a 2CV.
It was a very smart idea not to 'force yourself' to post everyday. After all, the trip was all about having fun.
cheers
Fantastic adventure ! this is better than any Netflix series, great commentary, and the indicator saga priceless !
Thanks Ian - as many others have said, really enjoyed your trip and appreciate that you took the time to record it for us.
I am absolutely astonished that such an old and basic car has done you so proud taking you across Europe. Very inspirational, well done Elly! and it was a real pleasure for us watching you both on this trip :)
Great to see you back home Ian....
With Elly safe and sound
Thanks for taking us along for the ride 👍
Welcome home. A great series. Elly did good.
Yay! Brilliant effort Ian. You and Elly have done yourselves proud.
Huge thanks for taking us along with you on this epic adventure
Glad to see you and Elly did return safe and sound in Cymru.
You actually do live in a very nice place of the world. One tends to appreciate home more after a long journey.
Or, as the great and late Dutch writer Godfried Bomans said; ''Travelling is coming home''/''Reizen is thuiskomen.''
Well done Mr HubNut for getting home safely and to Elly for achieving 80mph!
Thank you so much for sharing your epic adventures with us, it has been such fun being your passenger.
I may well watch the whole series through again now!
I too look forward to seeing YOU in a future video!
PTCHOOO! #2CVTOCROATIA
Well done Ian, as massive adventure, over 3,000 miles in 5 weeks, is certainly a marathon. Well done to you both.
thank you ian for taking us on your journey really enjoyed it
I felt like I was personally accompanying you every step of the way on that journey. The way you filmed and presented the whole endeavour was perfect.......second to none. What an absolutely fantastic experience and a big Thank You for sharing. I actually felt quite emotional as you boarded the ferry back home.
Thanks so much for taking us! I didn't want it to end! What fun!
What an entertaining series. Congrats to you and Elly on the great adventure. Thank you for taking us along. Cheers.
HubNut and Elly, superb! Thank You for a great adventure.
All them miles but cant beat coming home for a nice cup of tea.well done
Thoroughly enjoyed watching 2CV to Croatia, amazing road trip. 👌😎
An epic journey. Enjoyed riding with you all the way.
80mph in a 2cv bet you felt like chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier
A new engine will be in order when you arrive home.
According to a following Montego, I got 86 out of my 602cc Beachcomber downhill on the M5...
(no new engine required, but in later years the geabox would get jammed in just one gear.)
The saddest thing is a 600cc Turbo Smart car will only go 89mph , progress they call that lol
"isn't good to be back in the UK....No" LOL I love ending my day with another mighty HubNut adventure.
What an epic journey - it has been a pleasure to be a "virtual passenger". Looking forward to the next adventure, what ever it night be.
Welcome back to wet and windy Wales Ian, that's why we love the place isn't it ? Wonderful series of video's, loved every minute of it! Now you and Elley can have a well deserved rest.
Love that you're not afraid of giving Elly the Welly !!
... or of dying horribly.....!!
That was a HUBLOT jolly. Excellent. Thanks so much.
Greatest series of road vlogs I´ve ever seen. When you worked on the car short before leaving, I thought you won´t make it even to the ferry. But you made it twice! Respect for your bravery and thanks for sharing.
Thank you for your lovely videos over the last Month. You and Ellie have been on a great adventure. All the best.
Awww Elly, what a little beauty!
Well done Elly and Ian, it's been fantastic to watch!
Thankyou Ian. I have really enjoyed watching these videos from your trip. I never realised that there were so many 2CV's in the world. An absolute top job!
What an excellent adventure Ian and elly, thank you for showing us all around all the different places..
Top man 🙂🙂
Well done Ian (and Elly). Enjoyed watching your travels over the last 5 weeks!
What a wonderful adventure. Thanks for taking us all along for the ride. Now the boredom will set in...until next time!!
Epic trip, watched it back to back on a glorious Saturday sans child (packaged away on a Guides camp) ... marvellous entertainment.
An Epic drive home. You made it look easy but to travel across Europe, back across the Channel and then drive a very long and monotonous route through England on our hectic motorways to the valleys of Wales is a trial of endurance. As you approached home on familiar roads in fresh air with no pollution in anticipation of a proper cup of Tea on arriving. Well done Ian
Fantastic road trip Ian well done to you and especially Elly, I enjoyed every moment of it
The point of travel is not to just see new places but to see one's own land from a new perspective. Welcome home.
I like that. Certainly, I'm appreciating Wales again. Other parts of the UK not so much...
If home doesn't feel new and slightly strange, then the trip wasn't long enough.
Fantastic road trip thx for taking us with you Ian 👍🍾🍾🍾🍾
Well done elly And Ian it’s been amazing to watch 👍👍👍
Welcome home, welcome. Come on in and close the door.......A classic like Elly
Welcome home Ian & Elly! I have really enjoyed the trip too 👍
What a fantastic mini-series/travelogue Ian. Can't believe it's all come to an end. Michael Palin eat your heart. Well done to Ellie and yourself Ian, and thanks for all the driving. I'm just glad I'm not sharing the fuel costs!
P.S I'm well pleased for TWC.
Well done Ian and Elly thanks for taking us on such a fantastic adventure, really enjoyed watching every minute of it 👍
I had a secret bet with myself that you’d V-Max at 80! I enjoyed the added Mini content. I bet you’re glad you can have a cup of tea in your own house! Well done!
Danke schön, Ian. It was an adventure for me to watch your videos in Arizona, with 110 F in the shade, seeing all the wonderful scenery of Europe. Keep up the good work and I look forward to you next videos!
Thank you so much for an amazing series of videos Ian!!! Glad you and Ellie are home safe and well done to both of you :) I've really enjoyed every second of the Croatia road trip and thanks for taking us along on your adventure. So many amazing cars and stunning locations!!! Looking forward to more HubNut travel videos. You make a great travel guide with your warmth and sense of humour :) Thanks for keeping HubNut so real, down to earth and enjoyable :)
An epic video for an epic adventure Ian. Pleased you both made it home safely. Just for your interest. 1968, no speed limit, and I had a 1961 Mini with a tuned engine. So I WAS one of the first boy racers in a Mini. So pleased to see you're keeping up the tradition 😊😊👍
Autobahn driving (at max) is really something that has to be experienced, especially when somebody else in something more potent flies past and bursts your bubble (in my case a 911 doing substantially in excess of 150mph - fast enough that I didn't see it coming until it was already going again, just a very low-riding blue flash). Well done Ian for a Hubnut marathon and to Ellie for surviving it all. If I'd known you were coming down the M54, I might have camped out to offer an honour guard through Shropshire.
thanks for taking us with you on this epic road trip.
Little tip for the flasher relay, go to a motorcycle shop, the more established ones will keep old school 12 volt flasher relays on the shelf in their parts departments. I had one fail on a 60's Renault 4 some years ago, the OE Renault one was a very strange looking affair, but a bike flasher substituted it successfully.
Brilliant lateral thinking.
Thanks Ian, enjoyed every mile/kilometre. Treat Elly to a new set of spark plugs..bless her.
After your fan broke, it reminded me how essential a spare would be in the event of a breakage. So I've ordered one as a precaution. I for one WILL go to the next meet in Switzerland, being entertained on the way with my cd of Frank Ifield yodelling his heart out. Thanks my friend, it's been fun. See you soon.
Welcome home. What a trek! I'm sure I speak for many viewers when I say many, many thanks for sharing your adventure with us. It's been fascinating to see all those amazing places and such a variety of cars too. Congratulations on a great series.
Thanks for the ride, Ian. And welcome home!
Hello Hubnut, Just to say how much I have enjoyed your trip. I felt that I was there with you!! Many thanks for sharing it with us.
Well done Elly (and you of course!). Really enjoyed this road trip. Elly at 80mph was an epic moment :)
A useful tip gleaned from Gareth Cheeseman's bestselling memoir, Travelling In Ladies Underwear, on the subject of a gentleman of the road maintaining a supply of clean pants, is to wash them in the sink and dry them in a twisted towel. But please note that it is always recommended that you take the pants off first.
Your adventure with Elly makes me wish that I still had my first car ... A Fiat 127 0.9 ...... A marvelous vehicle that I wouldn't mind owning again...
Big FIAT fan here! We never got the 127 here, sadly, but I've always really liked them, especially the style of the pre-facelifted models. I imagine it was a lovely car! :)
I'm hoping to import a FIAT 126 sometime in the next year or two! :D
Greetings from Nova Scotia, Canada!
@@OdykKayne fellow big fiat fan here also. My 1997 cinquecento has the same engine as the 127 but with fuel injection and 5 gears. They are tough little engine's.
My girlfriend had a red Fiat 127, it was a nippy little car, quite a lot quicker than my VW Beetle 1600..this in the late 1970s
Loved your adventure across Europe, couldn't wait for UA-cam to notify me about your next leg of your trip and now you are back in the UK, thank you for letting me go on your adventure it was fantastic.
Fantastic to share the trip and get acquainted with some of your fleet at the end too! Nice one!
Really enjoyed your road trip in Elly and I’m firmly hooked on your exploits please keep them coming really really enjoy them.
What a wonderful trip, welcome home both of you. Very well done and most enjoyable. Thank you once again.
After watching every episode I can honestly say that was an amazing road trip in what is most definitely an amazing little car...👍
Well done, Elly! What an epic trip!
I loved the colour of the Morris Mini Minor.
Congratulations Ian and Ellie this has been a wonderful adventure , compulsive viewing from start to end Get some rest you two
Thrashing the nuts of the 2CV, good man!
Fantastic experience sir. Brilliant filming throughout. Thankyou so much for sharing. Have loved it. Amazing that lil Elly has kicked ass.
Welcome home Ian and Elly, what an epic trip from touch and go before you left, and nice to see the family when you got back as you left them, its been good following you on this journey every day or so, have a well earned rest and until the next time .....ptssst
The travelling without the coming home just would not be the same. Yin and Yang, empty and full, work and holiday, rain and sun ... 'you needs your contrasts'! Thanks for the vicarious travel fun, Ian.
Thanks for sharing your passenger seat with us Mr Hubnut. Epic trip!
Absolutely bloody fantastic Ian. What an awesome video to end with, the Minis, the ferry crossing and not very flashy flashers!. Thank you SO much for sharing ALL of this. Its been wonderful, and I've watched every second with pleasure. Well done Elly! :)
Great that you have both made it back safely! I’d completely forgotten about Ellys pre trip engine issues! She’s performed brilliantly! Was a nice bonus to see TWC! Glad all is well with a new plug! Hope you get some time to relax and enjoy a few cups of tea at home (they are always the best ones👍)
Thanks for sharing you great adventure with us! I’ve loved every minute😀
Well done, Elly! Well done, Ian! What a road trip. What a community of fantastic hearted people and their wonderful well-loved cars. Humanity and Machine-anity, at their very best! Like another world, with in a direly shit one. And thank God for it. These videos are practically a therapy. And very much appreciated!! Really enjoyed your last leg. From "I don't know what day it is" mop top, to 'Having to do it by hand', in the car, ...sailing, being re-patriated and reacquainted with the English roads and drivers, on home soil, and a raz in our little blue friend, great to see her again, to see Lovely Wales and your Automotive Family back home, and with a turn of a key, the adventure being at an end, a tear came and volunteered for duty. The solitary march upon the cheek of blushed sentimental melancholy. The one good thing about the end of one adventure, is it's already time for the next one to be planned and then be embarked upon! and those four wheels, sometimes three, keep turning... Mirror, Signal...
PS - I bet Elly Feels like she has titties of steel after that overdrive to 80!!! Oh, My F, ...that was hilarious and action packed, spanksomely Pride insiring Amazingness - I had to cheer!! She'd only do it for you, Ian!
She loves You - Da, Ja, Oui!
Really enjoyed this adventure Ian it's been a pleasure to have been along for the ride. Look forward to see what happens next Rob
How very very HubNut whilst others would be shopping and washing their bits and pieces you are fiddling with spark plugs and batteries,,,after over thirteen years I have yet to do a drive home,,,you've reminded me how long over due that is,,,great travelogue,,,😁
Great trip, Ian. Thanks for taking us along for the journey.
Well done Ian and Elly... it’s been brilliant, thank you.. (Phil - Standish)
