Totally. What a disappointment the 488 is in comparison.
@@vantage789 The 488 GTB wasn't really a disappointment! The only drawback was the comparatively muted sound and it was obvious because of the turbocharged engine. But overall, it was a better product, the engine behaved like a natural aspirated engine in terms response and power delivery and even won awards like the 458's engine.

Having owned the CLK BS for 2 years and the 458 for 3 years now. I absolutely love both cars!!! The porsche has never done it for me. Not sure why. Think of the merc as a european muscle car, and the 458 as absolute supercar perfection even over a decade later! What a world we live in! World class cinematography and editing as always guys! Much cudos!

Naturally Aspirated cars are just the best, I don't care about the speed of new cars, I don't care about their price or their value, they are just the best driving experiences out there and they set my heart and soul on fire. ❤️🔥

Thanks for a great video! I enjoyed every minute. I bought a 997GT3 (not RS) in 2008 and had it for two years. What a car, especially the engine which is so "alive" compared to today's cars! The GT3 RS would be my choice, no doubt.

That Merc is stunning
What a set of cars!! I own a CLK63 AMG (non-BS) and it's epic and so beautiful. The m156 is so raw and poweful.
I expected no less from this video...absolutely epic.
The Merc looks and sounds great, and I've learned to love the 458 design through the years (I still think previous berlinettas look better though) and I love the super-free-revving V8, but to me it is all about that GT3. It must be a defining experience to drive such a characterful car! Seeing it in real life is shocking, especially in blue+red spec. 😍

The 458 was the perfect supercar of its time, it was naturally aspirated, had the horsepower, looked stunning imo (not like it's the same design being repeated and boring to like at), no silly wing, fast shifting dual clutch transmission.

The only people who overlook these are people who aren't going to drive them. Sure, there are rarer, more expensive versions of each, but the 991 RSs consistently go for more than 991s. The standard 458 is still considered "the last of a breed". The C63 Black is considered the last of the true AMGs.
If I'm being 100% totally honest with myself, I'm definitely choosing the Mercedes-Benz CLK 63 AMG Black Series. One of the most important things for me when it comes to fun cars is the way it sounds, and the exhaust note from the 6.2 in the AMG is EVERYTHING to me! That car with a complete RENNtech exhaust and TUNE would sound absofreakinlutely BONKERS!!!
I don't toss cars around on a track that much, so precision handling doesn't mean that much if I'm just using a car for fun spirited driving on the streets and twisty back roads. The AMG Black Series will definitely work well for what I would use it for.

That Mercedes-Benz CLK is one of my dreamcars until this day! If I will own that model of CLK, I will make it look like the CLK-63 if I remember correctly. That DTM coupe have a wide body making it look more aggressive, beautiful and have better aerodynamics. I want to give this CLK the DTM race specifications treatment because of its wide body and large rear wing menacing race car looks!

Very interesting comparison. Three very special cars, but all so very different. Wouldn't be very difficult to choose between them, but the GT3 would edge it for me. Just like the manual transmission, it more driver focused.

I personally do not think cars have improved much beyond this era. This was the peak. They're frighteningly fast, with power delivery more responsive than this new turbo-everything era. Yes, the stats on the new cars are better, they can corner a bit harder and push more power, but again, the cars of this era were already pushing was 99% of humans can keep up with.

458s now start at around £110k for something with sensible mileage and service history..Even cheaper for a leggy car..

Porsche, true performance but no emotions. Ferrari, lots of emotions but it's a Ferrari like every other, basically. CLK, 6.2 V8 madness, black series, classic Mercedes design. I'd go with the CLK every day! This will be a true classic in the future.

@@scd I think the same will hold true for the C63 AMG (W204). Unfortunately, I sold mine last year. :D But the cars that Mercedes built with AMG in the mid 2000s till the late 2000s are truly amazing! :)
If I ever had the money I’d have the Porsche. I’ve dreamt of owning a 997.2 Carrera S for a long time so a GT3 RS of the same generation would be incredible.

I'd take the GT3RS over the other two any day. The main reason - manual gearbox. I've driven a 458 and several AMGs and the driver involvement just cannot be had with an automatic. While they're all special - especially their engines, the RS sets itself apart. When you're on your favorite backroad, all the power in the world isn't needed. A fantastic chassis, manual gearbox and a screaming NA engine.
The Ferrari F430 before the 458 was a car boasting serious technology, performance and occupants ergonomics to rival the best rear wheel drive Porsche 911s at the time the 430 was launched and in production

In the era of the last analog pure drivers cars, a manual transmission is a must! Manual hand brake, hydraulic steering, less intrusive nannies and naturally aspirated! Only the Porsche checks all of the boxes!
Porsche is unique in terms of true feel and driver involvement
Nearly have 2/3. I think the 3.8rs is tops. The 430 manual I have struggled with giving up for a 458 but the gated experience is truly last of its kind
There is one gated 458 so it is possible… if you have the budget

With upgraded plenum, headers, full titanium exhaust system plus a remap ecu, i manage to make the gt3rs to 530hp n 520nm of torque ❤

I’m biased, but the one with the flat 6 surely takes the cake!
I actually have an sls amg and i expected more theatrics from the m159 from all the rave reviews. And im here bc im interested in a clk63 as perhaps a better interpretation of a supercar by mercedes but it may be a moot point for me. The sound is thunderous, but the power band is so flat, which is by design, but it kills the experience of revving it out...my 997 gt3 and 991gt3rs are much more enjoyable to ring out, but nothing holds a candle to my 430 scuderia that is just pure theatrics from the flat plane v8 and single clutch tranny. It is the most eventful car i have ever driven til this day
A 458 Speciale would have the made the celebration even more special!
Ferrari 458 looks like a 2020's car. The 488 and F8 are still basically the same chassis and body as the 458.
If I have the garage space I would love to pick up a 458 now. It's a sure bet timeless classic. A 458 + a 997.2 GT3 would be an incredible garage.

Sam, I have a 991.2 GT3 RS and a 458 in my garage. Very complementary. I’m always on the prowl for a great third. Just sold a Lotus Exige S. The third always rotates. The 3RS and 458 are keepers.
@@Marcustx23 I have a 997.2 GT3 and an S2000 now. The GT3 is definitely a keeper but the S2k is surprisingly hard to get rid of too... Hope the 458 stays somewhat reasonable next year or two, I might pull the trigger then, budget and availability permits...
@@samwisee a couple of friends have S2000 cars. Both have decided to keep them. I’ve driven with them in those cars. Pretty fun - especially over 6200 RPM!
If you end up with a 458, I think you’ll find that it has a lot of soul.

3 absolutely EPIC extremely significant cars collected here. Legit Street Cars here on UA-cam is building an AMG right now with headers, cams, and a Gen 5 3.0L Whipple that Victory Road a Merc performance manufacturer here in the states. His goal is 900-1k hp up from 507 hp while retaining the beautiful 6.3 GROWL.

The F136 in the 458 is absolutely a derivative of the same engine family that’s in the F430. It is in no way an all new engine.

I love all three cars. I love mags but man the old tech just is not attractive. I love the Amg engines because it's like so pure and throaty. I guess if I had to pick one, it would be the Porsche gt3rs, because I absolutely love driving manual cars, and at the end of the day it is a Porsche. I wish AMG makes manual cars lol. 458 is obviously amazing too.

u can get a load of similar sounding gt3 engines all the way from 996 to 992, but u cant get another 458 as the 488 and 430 sounds drastically different. I am fortunate to have both engines and then some but that deep growling brutal v8 of the amg is something that i miss in the garages. While the amg gt series are very accessible and sounds pretty good (albeit a bit artificial), the naturally aspirated one in the SLS is prob the one to join up here. A black series CLK is prob too rare against the other 2 here (2k RS and 10k 458s)....perhaps a regular SLS is a better fit here for the early 2010 NA hero theme
