Watch as the crew pours us a safe room, which is a multi use shelter that is completely concrete, all four walls and the ceiling!
We did the same thing at our new house, but we used precast docksplank as the ceiling, and capped it with 4 inches of concrete. For the door, we used a Golden Spike vault door. Because we live in Michigan, we don't have much of a threat from tornadoes, we use it more for secure storage. It's a great investment.
Yeah, its also one of my prepper back up plans... With all that's going on in the cities things could get ugly fast! I might have to start learning how to cure meat in there and start canning more!!
What was the rough cost for the concrete work? Thinking of adding one to my new build. Did you run a secondary ventilation system for the room or is it running off the houses hvac?
I believe he said it was about 2500 extra. It is just connected to the house hvac, I didn't get that crazy, although it would make it more 'secure' :) I also ran a phone line, lights and outlets in it.

Second exit from safe room?
Kapper I have a Safe Room in my housesits 20x10. The walls are 12 inches thick the ceiling is 18 inches thick. Tony
Did you add any additives to the concrete like superplasticizer?
Not sure all what he put in.. I do recall I think he said he added fiber in that thing, but not for sure.
Are the walls for your safe room as tall as the exterior basement walls? I am doing a safe room in my basement and they poured the walls as tall as the exterior walls. When we pour a 6 inch ceiling on top of it, I am trying to figure out how they will frame the main level floor over it.
Yes the safe room is the same height as the basement walls. Not sure how they figured it in, but the main floor above is all even. I'm sure they had to compensate somehow. Good luck thanks

Kapper all this time I've been watching your Kioti videos because we have the same RX, and I'm looking at safe room upgrades and you too have a safe room, we might be brothers as I once lived in the North as well.

I'm buying a house i think soon. I'll have about 50k so do some work. I plan onmaking a 30 by 30 man cave with cinder block walls in the corner of the basement. it'ss be 16 inches think (2 cinder blocks with poured concrete) and i am using a vault style door. I'm not sure if i am doing a concrete roof on it yet to save cost because the house needs siding new hvac and floors. But i figured this room would cost me a total of 15k if i do a lot of the work myself.

Same here, but a 10 x 5 will do for me. Definitely concrete roof as the rest of the house will be up there 😂 we use cinder blocks for the entire structure this part of the world. And we have tornado free weather, earth quakes too

Possibly if you put a walk in gun safe door on it
one thing that you could have done was put that safe room in your garage. if you are going to have 8 foot walls on your garage anyway you might as well have a walk out lower level garage and have a two story garage. if you look at the price at building 8 or 10 foot walls and backfill rock for the floor you might be able to run extra steal I beams and rebar and have two level parking.
Yeah I tried to do that but since it would have cars parked on the floor he would have had to have an engineer certify it.. lots of time, lots of cost...and we want it done!
Why not pour it when the walls went up ?

These are people in my opinion whom have never had pride in themselves. They don't understand the real life emotional woes of success and failure. They certainly don't understand the pride in watching the foundation of their dreams being poured in front of them. Don't sweat em.
