This movie tackles the saying “let the narrative write itself” so well. Sometimes what others see becomes your reality. I liked how in the end he eventually just “became” what everyone thought he was with the incident the end.

Best movie. Nicholas showed us what it's like to be an idol of your generation and subsequently fade into the shadows of the past. This analogy with dreams is very good for understanding what thoughts we have when supporting the views of our idol and hatred of those topics that your idol has voiced or made somewhere. For example, the fact of a slap at the Oscars can be attributed to this division before and after. At first you adore your idol, then you hate him for his actions. This long-suffering life of actors and showmen.

    Before I watched the review:
I lovveeddd this film! Nic Cage is perfect for this style of role where you don’t know how seriously to take the premise, but my word does he take you along for the ride. I didn’t think it went too political into topics like cancel culture but was a general comment on truth vs perceived truth. How the idea of something can be so much more terrifying than the real thing. Some cringe moments but that felt purposeful. The ending was a little soppy but it was super A24.

I thought I was actually going to get through a movie without hearing any cringe right wing jabs but they managed to fit them in. Still a good film though.

If he didn't get nominated for Pig, which is truly one of his greatest performances ever, he's not gonna get anything for this either.

It’s a comedy that ultimately turns the mirror on its audience in the third act that makes you think about your reaction and relationship to the misfortune of others.

Ngl, I totally missed that interpretation of the third act. Maybe I wasn't paying as close attention as I thought I was 😅
Can you elaborate on how it "turns the mirror" on you?

@@CheekiTiki The editing seeming to change around the part where he goes to the young woman’s apartment. Comedic editing is usually very quick and snappy which in the first part of the movie we get more of, but once we get to the girls apartment, shots start to linger and wallow on those awkward moments to where they are at first still funny but quickly become sadder and sadder as you have longer to think about what’s happening to Nic Cage’s character’s life. This reflection makes you think about how heartily and eager you were to laugh about the absurdity and awkwardness that came before. It was like the energy was sucked out of the room in the theater I saw it in, and I choose to believe that was a deliberate choice on the filmmakers part.

I agree with the opinion of Nick Cage. He's always been over the top and kind of a joke, but he's committed to every role he's played. I saw The Weather Man at the dollar movie theater in my town and it was the first thing that made me realize he was actually good. He commits to a fault and it's what makes him good.

I watched this with my sister, both high out of our minds. It was honestly one of the greatest cinema experiences I've ever had 😂 but when I sobered up, I was still excited to watch it again. I've been rewatching clips all week.
Nicholas Cage does SUCH a good job of portraying someone so incredibly annoying, and yet so endearing at the same time. My favourite thing I've ever seen him in.

They could’ve done so much better with this film. They shoehorned in stupid, pointless social media stuff and could’ve easily done more with making a comment on how we view ourselves and our priorities abd given the movie an actual decent ending.

Damn this movie really upset me. Went in blind just for Nic and A24. Came out in tears, what more differently could he have done. He shouldn’t have reacted poorly and cheated or being entitled. But still so messed up to happen to someone.

Same here. I was expecting just a funny film about a guy trying to get people to stop dreaming about him but the moment they went into the social media aspect and his "advertisement material" I was legit shocked. God what a film. Absolutely loved it.

I think it is about cancel culture and toxic sensitivity and maybe some hints of exploitation within big corporate companies. I think it explores how desensitized we as humans are. And notice how when he acted/poured his heart out as if we was the victim in the video online he made he got more shit for it. Even his own wife was turning her back his vulnerabilities. She even told him to apologize for the dreams for which he had no control. Apologize men were always wrong and don’t be vulnerable or else. His wife even left him. Maybe this is an attempt to call out Vance culture and toxic sensitivity. Maybe even take men’s mental health more seriously. I’m still pulling it apart. But so far I see hints if that I’m this movie. The move was funny, dark and sad all at the same time. Loved it!

Problem with movies today. Winner Best Picture Oppenheimer, a movie that literally told us nothing we didn't already know. And what was the great thought process? Nuclear weapons bad? Que the Boom. Very Big Boom. But here is Dream Scenario, a movie that is actually talking about something people are a bit afraid too. Social problems, and dangers, technology, cancel culture, mob mentality, innocent people getting bullied, the self proclaimed victims actually being the wolves. And here is Nic Cage showing that he is a very talented actor. Playing a challenging role given the emotional roller coaster he has to go on. But best actor went to Cillian Murphy. A role where, arguably, he plays this introvert that doesn't show emotions, everything is him talking about the ramifications, but using other characters to display his concerns. It's rather F#(Ked up.
