Really very good movie! With “Pig” (2021) and now, with this gem… Nicolás, he deserves his second Oscar.
Mandy is in my top 5 favourites of the past decade. A real masterpiece of gonzo horror cinema.

I loved this movie and especially the ending. I suppose in some ways the story keeps going, but really, you know enough to understand it all, and so that's exactly where it should end. The David Byrne shoutout amused me quite a bit because The Talking Heads have always been one of my favorite bands. The closing song is their "City of Dreams," and that's a nice choice. I would have used David Byrne's "The Dream Police," but that's just me. (Next week I'm watching Monty Python and then Godzilla. Great month for movies!)
Or Cheap Trick's "Dream Police." Or Gary Numan's....

As someone who loves to dream and dream journal, this was a pleasant movie to watch.
Nicholas Cage can bring some otherworldliness to his roles very well.
I'm going to see this after my shift at work today. So excited. I love Charlie Kaufman, he is my favorite screen writer and director, and since I have heard multiple people compare this movie to Adaptation, which Charlie wrote, I do have fairly high expectations.
I really enjoyed the movie and found myself laughing quite a bit throughout it due to the dark comedy aspects. This really makes me interested in seeing theories about the second act direction the movie takes, because I've got some strong idea about the "Why" and the symbolism that goes with it.
ooo this will be at the top my list to watch now. i remember there was this one creepypasta about a man who appeared in different people’s dreams. kinda like the benadryl hat man 😂 love this concept.
A24, Nic Cage, horror comedy. For better or for worse, it _has_ to be worth watching..! 😲

I agree, perfect casting. I liked him in "Adaptation" and "Being John Malkovich" slightly better but he was excellent in this.

Saw this tonight. It was really funny in some parts but I wished it had indulged the horror aspect a bit more. Because it was dealing with dreams (or nightmares), it could have gone to some dark places. The ending was super underwhelming too.
I greatly enjoyed "Dream Scenario," Cage was also in the excellent "Birdy." Has anyone viewed that film? It is another odd one I love.

Finally watched the movie on Max tonight. I thought it was a fantastic film, so different and interesting. Nic Cage is outstanding in it. Like Oscar worthy outstanding. Really enjoyed this one more than Beau is Afraid but I can see how people compare the two.
I know what part you’re referring to… I felt a little jarred at first when it happened. However, that bit has to be introduced in order for the ending to work.

I just got through watching this & absolutely loved it! So much to unpack & quite a bit of social commentary without it being preachy... Yeah, that last part right before the ending is a bit jarring; I have mixed feelings about it, but I still love the movie! 8.5/10 for me.

There was a short horror film on UA-cam about 10 years old with the same premise. Can't remember the name, but the plot was that everyone around the main hero is afraid of him because they saw him in an unpleasant dream
Was loving it until the final third, which by the end had me halving my rating. I think there's some really unhelpful messages and mean spirited representation in it, which I can't articulate without spoileraterizing.
Don't laughed, don't been scared. I felt only sad and sad for this man that fall in a spiral down and down without any hope.

After the dreadful Trespass in 2011, I thought Nicholas Cage had perhaps irreparably damaged his career but his return to excellence continues with this very fine film.
What about Pig? That has to be his best film, very recent too

lmao u must be new to the cage experience if u thought one movie in 2011 meant anything. always has and always will have a mixed bag for the $$$. He has been in about 50 movies since then, mostly bad - strictly for the $$$. I don't knock it you just follow the ones with good dirctors and generally those don't fail to impress.
This kind of reminds me of the “this man” hoax. Nicholas Cage’s character kind of looks like him!
dont go into this thinking its a horror, more like a comedy/drama that almost feels like a black mirror episode by the end. i really liked it, yet i dont feel like its a 'rush to the cinema to see' type of film

I didn't understand most of the jokes even the "funny because it's awkward" ones. I just felt bad for the dude the whole movie. To Also I didn't understand why paul was uptight at the diner. Maybe it's my adhd/ASD but this movie just felt wtf and boring. Other than the corporate office being cringe that was funny. Not for me it's too artsy
There’s something about Cage that I can’t stand
We used to get the occasional Nic Gage movie, Joe and Mandy just for example, but he's been knocking it outta the park lately and thank goodness, I love the guy, now someone mentioned he hadn't done anything good for years, not true, but he has done a lot of shit, because of his unpaid taxes, it good to see him back in a lot of killer movies, we need Gage, 🤟🤟🤟🤟
