The nostalgia for the old days and the old ways of doing things causes us to forget that a big reason for why people moved away from it was it was hard! He's in there blowing coals to warm himself and cook and I pushed a button to warm the mattress pad. It kind of reminds me of having babies. When you're in the thick of it you can find yourself questioning every decision that led to the pain crashing into you wave after wave and somehow, we forget long enough to want to do it again. Being self sufficient is great but finding ways to make doing so not so difficult is also smart. For instance: Instead of being out there trying to blow coals to get a fire going, there's a thing called a flextail tiny pump 2X that will blow things up, deflate them, and double as a little light. It's rechargeable and a hell of a lot easier than out there blowing coals. Especially if the conditions for starting a fire are rediculous to start with. Mr. Lead Farmer, I salute you Sir, and thank you for the reality check...
They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall run and not be weary,they shall walk and not faint. Do what is needed to survive and rest in the Lord. I finally purchased my first portable power station ( Ecoflow River) and two (100 watt solar panels). This is the first of many big steps I've taken to get me and my family prepped.

It made me think about using the web strapping typically used to hold greenhouse plastic sturdier in high winds. Would that be beneficial to keep a tent in place, if used with the large corkscrew type dog tieout stakes, instead of usual tent pegs??
