Hi y’all! I love flashlights and knives, have a collection! I’m 64….farm and rancher part of my life…. /R.N the other half! Retired Now here in Arrid West Texas(low dessert gardening, 7A)& I have chickens and home garden! Old goat hanging with valentines tags on edge of shelf above Mr. Hoss head!
i just received my carrot seed tape! I'm going to plant it this weekend! It will be nice not to have to worry about spacing, I hope they grow for me! The old goat is hanging on the happy Valentine's Day sign.
Old goat is hanging in the Happy Valentines signs! Haven't written in a while! Eye surgery then a virus! Better now! My husband ordered my grow mats! They are nice! He ordered me a nice small green house to do my plants in! Will be here Wednesday! I'm really excited! Do you all have Morage lifter tomato seed! See you all later! Get Dirty!! Marlene farmerfrom SC
Great show, as always! Fire ants are a bit of a problem for me in my containers! I try to aggravate them away with mixed results. We usually end up sharing. Greg, this knife thing is a slippery slope! 🤣🤷🏻♂️ I’ve got a bit of a problem myself! I’ll get you a list together of some great blade smiths! Start with my friend, Josh Foran, at Josh of All Trades in Hanceville AL. Josh was on the “Forged in Fire” tv show and won his episode. Beautiful work! He and his wife, Ashley, are young homesteaders and fine folks!
Thanks Tom, Try the over and out ant bait. Works slow , but should get them. On the knife issue-I will check them out. I guess there are worse things out there than buying Knives. G
Greg, I bet you collected marbles when you were a kid also. Now it's knives. Love seeing the knife of the week and Benchmade is the real deal.... I like the new garden signs for each of you. I found that Ace Hardware stocks Pro-Mix in the compressed bales. They will ship to store for free so if you local store does not keep it on the shelf, you can still get it. That's where I get mine from. I'm putting in some of the Olle metal beds this year and will be mixing about 40% peat moss (compressed bale type), 40% compost (Soil3 in the cubic yard bale), and 20% vermiculite. This will be the top portion to fill over the existing raised bed soil as these beds are taller than what they replace. I'm on my 4th year using a drip system on a timer for all the beds. Time to re-design it as my bed configuration will change with the new Olle beds. We don't have room for the tradition "flat" rows. And last but not least, the Ole Goat is hanging onto Valentines Day memories on the shelf top edge behind Greg. Thanks for another great show!!!!
Thank y'all. Mr Greg enjoying the knife section have a nice collection myself but look for Damascus knives or local blacksmiths. Mr old goat is hanging behind Mr Greg by the happy Valentine's Day sign. Wishing y'all a blessed day.
I`ve ate a lot of those mini carrots. I bought 5000 Danvers Half Long Carrots recently. Maybe I can get bigger ones from those...but I can`t ever wait. I pull them too early eating on them.
My potatoes are cut up and awaiting planting. Started my peppers and tomatoes. Realized I was out of paprika seeds and had to order them. They were a little hard to find. Those carrots look about like my growing carrots. You had me laughing. I am trying the root pouches for my potatoes this year. I grow in raised beds, containers, and in ground. I need to get some companion flowers started.
Old Goat is beside the Happy Valentines day sign. Started my Hot Peppers first this year since they are the hardest to get started, and I have limited seed starting space. Gonna hold off this year to start my tomatoes until around first of march or even second week of march. Zone 8a
I don`t like container gardening but some things like basil and dwarf tomatoes do well that way, plus I can move the plants in and out in winter to get some food when it`s too cold at night here on the line of zone 8b/9a. I test seeds in them and grow onions in them. Trying strawberries in containers until I can get a bed prepared for them. I also use pots to root cuttings and grow parisian carrots and start seeds. I`m not very good at growing in pots though and fail a lot. There was a tomato I liked a lot last year and I got cuttings of that slowly growing under weak light since December to put in a hydro bucket in March under my camper roof where sun hits but rain doesn`t.
I’m trying to start my own tomatoes this year because I feel like I need to learn how to do my own transplants but I got your tomato plugs last year and they did great.
We should hopefully have them available around the 2nd week of March (maybe before but no promises), we have to make sure they’re grown out enough! Stay tuned!
I threw some of my old potting soil around my Brown Turkey Fig tree I planted last March to begin mulching it because the soil was really bad ... red dirt as hard as concrete. It`s doing great now after mulching it, putting cardboard a few feet around it to stop weeds, and adding more dirt, chopped leaves, and grass clippings as it grows. There`s a mound there now.
Last year was my first year gardening. Just a few small raised beds (3' x 5' each), a GreenStalk, and a few grow bags. This year I'm adding a couple of EarthBoxes. They just arrived this week. They seem pretty durable. I've read a few reviews where people say they've been using theirs for over a decade. This will also be my first time starting seed indoors. Thank you Hoss Tools. I got my 1st ever order from you guys last week. That 48 cell seed staring kit is the bees knees.. I also got some of my seeds from you guys. That rainbow carrot tape was just too tempting to pass up. I also can't wait to see if all the hype is true about the Hossinator bell peppers. The old goat seem to be wishing everyone a happy Valentines day.
In North Texas 8 B. Will put in tomato plants next week. Have to get them going before the heat comes and stops everything in June. Sometimes I don't plant until March, but thought I would "live on the edge" and see if I can get things going earlier. Love your information.
Look at Earthbox containers. They are fairly small, but I have grown tomatoes, peppers, corn, okra, broccoli, and squash in them with good success. Earthbox is a brand name. The boxes are sold on line and at some hardware stores. They will require regular watering, but they don't require a lot of space. It is surprising how much you can grow in one box.
Watching the replay. I love my raised beds and containers. I did some red, orange and yellow snack peppers in some containers last year, and they did great. I also have some Greenstalks for herbs, smaller veggies and flowers. That Old Goat is hanging right above Mr. Greg’s head with the Happy Valentine’s Day tag. Thanks for all the good info!
Sounds like you need a fork lift just for moving containers. I have the same problem when I plant carrots. As a nurse, I am resistant to killing seedlings or any life. I love life! So, I ordered your carrot and beet seed tape. I'm looking so forward to planting them this year! I'm looking forward to getting more than a meals worth.
The old goat is hanging on the Happy Valentines sign above Greg. I container and raised bed garden now because our small back yard was graveled and used by my husband as a child as a practice BMX track. 😂
I use a lot of 5 gallon buckets for my garden. Full size plants seem to work out for me. I have even planted potatoes in the buckets and have a decent amount produced.
Sorry but I’m literally laughing out loud watching you trying to pull those carrots. 🥕 😂😅 I stink at growing carrots. I hope y’all have a great time on your trip. Got my seeds started this week. Several are breaking thru already. Lots of Cherokee purples. 🍅
@@gardeningwithhoss I love you guys to pieces! Can’t wait to see you again this fall at Petals. 👩🌾💚 Hopefully I can make some more canning mats (counter quilts) or some other goodie.
Good day Greg and Sheila. Planting taters today, although I already have some several inches high but didn't get the reds until yesterday so I'll be planting them out today if I can beat the rain we suppose to get this afternoon. I grew my own tumeric and ginger last year.
We're in E TN 7a. I started peppers 1/17/24 and succession started through 2/17/24.The winter, spring and all weather here is so erratic, Ugh! Other than the small pepper varieties producing some fruit, the weather comes in and kills the bigger ones like bells. Not this year! I intend on having a pepper year. Last year was tomatoes. We've narrowed tomatoes down to a handful of must have varieties after growing 152 plants of so many varieties. 82 tomato quarts + 6 grocery bags in the freezer. This year will be tomatoes for fresh eating only. Pepper production will narrow down what to grow or not each year. Hoping to make sauces, meat rubs and pickles. Does Mrs. Hoss have any good pepper sauce or rub recipes? Oh, and smoked paprika. Any advice on peppers varieties and uses? As always, great show! Thank you for sharing!
Thx! Got my weekly belly laff from your great show. I do want to ask, if anybody answers, do your root bags have drainage holes in them? I thought because of the material and my setting it on the ground, that all was good and it would drain because of the material. Teach me plez! I don't often ask questions, but I'm on a roll -- regarding the Pro-Mix. I finally spotted a bale at a Feed Store for $52. Listening to Greg .. it seems like I'm supposed to mix it with potting mix and compost? I couldn't quite grasp what he was saying. Teach me more!
❤❤❤❤❤u all are awesome
I finally found it, old goat is behind Greg on the Happy Valentine's Day sign

They do not have holes in them. The material is porous and drains well. We mix with compost.
Where did you purchase your galvanized raised beds? I was looking at Olle raised beds. Wondered your thoughts on where to purchase. Thanks.
